Everton have stolen a march in the race to sign Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha if reports in the British press are to be believed.

Tottenham have been heavily linked with the 25-year-old in recent times while Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund have also joined the race for his signature. Although Roy Hodgson will be keen to hold onto his prize asset, new Everton boss Marco Silva is expected to sell Yannick Bolasie and Ademola Lookman to help raise funds and test Crystal Palace’s resolve with a bid in the region of £70m. News broke last weekend that Zaha had rejected a new and improved deal, said to be worth around £125k per week, alerting sides across Europe. Despite a disappointing stint at Manchester United back in 2013, Zaha is determined to prove himself at a ‘big club’ and feels his future lies away from Selhurst Park. Zaha was instrumental in helping Palace beat the drop. In the 9-games he missed during 2017/18, the Eagles failed to secure a single point while averaging just 0.3 goals per game.

Gerard Deulofeu is edging closer to his first appearance of 2018/19 following a return to full training.

The winger has struggled for most of the year after suffering a metatarsal fracture in February, a problem which continued to hamper him throughout the summer despite a brief return to the matchday squad in late-April. On Tuesday, Javi Garcia confirmed Deulofeu had completed a battery of tests and he was now training with the squad, although he would not be considered for the first-team just yet. "With his injury we have been patient. He is feeling well but we are not sure when he will available," he said. "He needs time [but] there are a lot of games left. I prefer to be patient while we are working hard with him. He is recovered and we are happy because he says he is well, but we know we have to wait for the moment when he is fit."

Troy Deeney is expected to line-up against the Gunners this weekend despite an ongoing foot injury and ankle ligament damage.

The Watford skipper was seen icing his foot on Saturday and confirmed that he had been playing with broken toes since August. "One toe has healed but two are broken. I’ve had injections. One of the younger players did it on the Friday before the game [versus Crystal Palace]. He was trying to impress and get himself in the team, but he stood on my toes." And after the draw with Fulham, Deeney says he will require another injection, this time in his ankle, to be ready for the game at the Emirates after he was caught high and late by opposition defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah. "There’s a bit of ligament damage in there [but] nothing a few injections can’t help. It’s going to take more than that to stop me playing against Arsenal."

Demarai Gray will have a scan on his left ankle after being stretchered off with oxygen during Leicester City's Carabao Cup win over Wolverhampton on Tuesday.

The England under-21 international required oxygen after suffering a nasty-looking injury when he caught his left leg under his body as he made a challenge in added time. Leicester boss Claude Puel confirmed in his post-match press conference that Gray will undergo a scan tomorrow to discover the full extent of the injury. Marc Albrighton could come into the starting XI against Newcastle this weekend with Gray potentially facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Manchester United have been knocked out of the League Cup by Frank Lampard's Derby County.

The Third Round clash at Old Trafford started as José Mourinho would have dreamed, with Juan Mata getting on the end of a lovely move down the left wing in the third minute. United failed to make any other opportunity to kill the game off in the first half and paid the consequences. Liverpool loanee Harry Wilson levelled proceedings with a stunning free-kick, which should have pushed the United side with nine changes into action. Instead, The Rams took the lead with a few minutes of normal time to play through Jack Marriot. He headed the ball beyond Lee Grant, who came on to replace Sergio Romero when the Argentine saw red for handling outside the box to prevent a scoring chance. United went route one and pegged Derby back in injury time to 2-2 via Fellaini, but the Championship side beat them in a shootout.

Callum Wilson scored deep into injury time to give Bournemouth a 3-2 win over Blackburn and a passage through to the next round of the EFL Cup.

The Cherries actually blew a 2-0 lead before snatching the late winner. Junior Stanislas made his mark on his first start back from injury by volleying the PL side ahead before Jordon added a second from the spot in the second half. That second goal came after Blackburn's 'keeper twice denied Jermain Defoe. Summer signing Jefferson Lerma made an error which left Blackburn back into the tie through Conway before Armstrong levelled proceedings. In the final seconds, Rovers' Williams picked up the ball deliberately to stop Wilson going through 1-on-1 with Raya and saw red. Seconds later, Wilson headed in Marc Pugh's corner to win the game.

Sergio Romero will not be on the bench for Manchester United against West Ham this weekend.

The Argentine was handed a straight red card for denying a goalscoring opportunity with his hand outside the box mid-way through the second half of United's poor exit from the EFL Cup at the hands of Championship club Derby County. Lee Grant will take his place on the bench as David de Gea will be back in the starting line-up after a rest. Romero will be suspended for just one game, so he will be eligible to play against Newcastle in GW8.

Alisson will get a rest on Wednesday night when Liverpool host Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.

The Belgian goalkeeper last started for Liverpool in January before he conclusively lost his place to Loris Karius. With the German now in Turkey, a chance to impress now falls into his hands. Speaking about possible rotation, Jurgen Klopp said "I will not name a number of changes. It will not be the maximum and it will not be the minimum." For the Blues, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Antonio Rudiger and Pedro are doubt but youngsters like Callum Hudson-Odoi, Etham Ampadu, and the lesser-spotted Gary Cahill may get a run out.

In the latest episode in their turbulent feud, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has told Paul Pogba that he will never captain the club again.

Mourinho is said to be trying to impose his authority on the Frenchman after he cost United Wolves' equaliser at the weekend and followed that up by criticising the team's lack of attacking in his post-match comments. Mourinho signalled his annoyance with members of his squad in his programme notes ahead of United's Tuesday night Carabao Cup clash with Derby. "[The game against Wolves was] an important lesson; a lesson that I repeat week after week after week, a lesson that some boys are not learning. Every team that play Manchester United are playing the game of their lives, and we need to match that level of aggression, motivation and desire - 95% isn't enough when others give 101%." After a recent run of good performances, Pogba and his manager's relationship is again on the rocks.

Brighton winger José Izquierdo has stepped up his recovery from a knee injury after completing 45 minutes for Albion's reserves on Monday.

"Izzy's" half against Leicester City's backups was his first play-time since he featured for Japan against Colombia during the World Cup. It will be a big boost for Chris Hughton when he will be able to call on Izquierdo as well as Solly March and Ali Jahanbakhsh to fill the slot on the left side of his midfield.

Lost in the team news over the weekend was the new contract signed by Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero.

The team's all-time leading scorer celebrated with his fourth goal of the season in his 300th overall appearance for Manchester City in a 5-0 win over Cardiff City. The new deal extends his current contract by a year, which will keep him at the club until 2021, when he is 33 years old. Said Aguero, who has always expressed a hope to return to Argentina at the end of his contract: "I am happy for this additional year. My idea was being here for 10 years. I've been here for seven years [and] it's going to be 10 when the contract expires. This was the main reason I signed. I'm very happy because they have treated my very well since the first day I got here. I'm very happy with everything that involves the club, my teammates, the staff and the management team."

Virgil van Dijk will miss the first game of a double-header with Chelsea in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday after suffering an injury setback.

Frustrated fantasy managers watched on as van Dijk trudged to the side-lines before the hour mark on Saturday, just five minutes before his clean-sheet had been locked in. However, Jurgen Klopp was quick to play down the severity of the Dutchman’s injury by revealing that he had started the game with a minor problem – a bruise on the ribs – which became uncomfortable after taking another knock there. "It’s not cool, but not too serious. It should be okay hopefully. I didn’t hear anything different." Defensively Liverpool are well-stocked following the return of Joel Matip - who started his first league game against Southampton - while Dejan Lovren is back on the training pitches and "close" after recovering from a pelvic problem.
