West Ham completed the signing on Colombia international midfielder Carlos Sanchez from Fiorentina in the closing stages of Deadline Day.

The experienced 32-year-old defensive midfielder has joined the Hammers on a two-year contract, arriving from Fiorentina for an undisclosed fee. The move represents Sanchez's second spell in the Premier League, having made 48 appearances for Aston Villa between 2014 and 2016. "It's an amazing opportunity and an amazing project the club are leading, being ambitious and keen to achieve good things," Sanchez told the club's official website. "I decided to come here because, first, it is the Premier League, second, it's a beautiful club and the fans are always helping the club." Sanchez becomes the ninth new arrival at the London Stadium since manager Manuel Pellegrini was appointed.

Unai Emery has backed Petr Cech as Arsenal's starting goalkeeper heading into the Gunners' Week 2 match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Despite some questionable decisions and actions with the ball at his feet against Manchester City, Petr Cech has his manager's faith heading into the weekend against his former club Chelsea. The cynic in me says that Emery is letting Cech take the two tough bullets early in the schedule rather than throwing his long-term solution at goalkeeper into nearly impossible circumstances. It could be that Cech is simply better than Leno but my suspicion is that the German will start playing a larger part come September and be the full-time starter not long after that. It is a respectful way to handle the decline of a legend as well as a wise handling of a new arrival you hope is going to be in place for years to come.

Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Ivan Cavaleiro’s Premier League debut will have to wait as the player struggles to overcome a troublesome back complaint.

Manager Nuno Espírito Santo confirmed the club have been managing the players minutes in pre-season due to a back problem which restricted his involvement. "He's injured. He had a problem a couple of weeks ago," the Wolves boss revealed following the 2-2 draw with Everton. "We have to manage his time because he's not totally 100 per cent fit. That's one of the reasons why he wasn't available. He needs to rest. First, he needs to feel free of pain, then we can start training him again." Initially, it is believed that Cavaleiro will spend up-to a month resting before his gradual reintegration onto the training pitches. Helder Costa, who was given the nod in week one, is expected to fill in during the interim. Saturday may come too soon for Adama Traore as he continues his recovery from the dislocated shoulder he suffered while at Middlesbrough.

Joel Matip is progressing nicely as he continues to build fitness following his recovery from an injury setback.

The Liverpool defender spent almost four months on the sidelines after undergoing thigh surgery before limping off just 22 minutes into his first-team comeback game. But on Wednesday, Matip came through a 60-minute behind-close-doors workout at Melwood as the Reds put five past a West Ham academy side. The game also included Adam Lallana, Xherdan Shaqiri and Daniel Sturridge who all managed to get on the scoresheet while Jordan Henderson, Alberto Moreno and Fabinho were handed some valuable game time. Liverpool don’t play again until Monday and it’s uncertain whether Jurgen Klopp will risk Matip at Selhurst Park, although a place on the bench appears more realistic at this stage with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez continuing in the heart of defence. Ragnar Klavan [hamstring] was not involved, suggesting this weekend will come too soon, and Dejan Lovren remains sidelined due to an abdominal injury which was exacerbated during the World Cup.

Arsenal reserve right back Carl Jenkinson injured an ankle in training and will be out for approximately two months.

The injuries are piling up at the back for Arsenal with Jenkinson and Ainsley Maitland-Niles joining Sead Kolasinac and Laurent Koscielny as injury absentees. Nacho Monreal could return easing the burden as the Gunners prepare to face Chelsea on Saturday.

David Ospina has joined Napoli on a year-long loan from Arsenal.

Two's company and three's a crowd the old saying goes. With Petr Cech still hanging on as the starter at Arsenal (for at least one more week) and newly arrived Bernd Leno waiting to take the job, David Ospina was the odd man out. Rather than letting him languish on the bench, Arsenal have moved Ospina to Napoli for the season. Presumably, he will have a chance to come back next season with Cech retired.

Newcastle supporters can breathe a collection sigh of relief following the news that DeAndre Yedlin has not been seriously injured.

The club confirmed on Wednesday that the problem is not considered long-term and the US international is "likely" to resume training with his team-mates "shortly". Although there has been no definitive timeline, the update will be welcomed as fans initially feared Yedlin had suffered the same fate as Florian Lejeune – ruptured ACL – which could have ended his season. Newcastle take on Cardiff City in the lunchtime kick-off on Saturday and Rafa Benitez will consider his options prior to the trip to south Wales. The injury leaves United with only two fully fit out-and-out full-backs – Paul Dummett – and Javier Manquillo, understudy to Yedlin. However, Rafa may look to utilise Jamie Sterry from the under-23s or call Isaac Hayden in from the cold. Frederico Fernandez is another option, as one three centre-halves with Christian Atsu and Matt Ritchie playing as wing-backs.

Wilfried Zaha has moved beyond the transfer rumors and has signed a new long-term contract with Crystal Palace.

The winger was linked with a move to Chelsea and Spurs, among other clubs this summer, but instead opted to stay at Crystal Palace by signing his second bumper contract in as many years, with this one keeping him at Selhurst Park through the summer of 2023. Zaha has scored 44 goals for Crystal Palace and his goal over the weekend against Fulham puts him one away from breaking the club record for Premier League goals. Said Zaha: "I’m very pleased. Obviously, I just wanted to get it over and done with, so I can just focus on the season. I’m buzzing that we managed to get it sorted."

Kevin de Bruyne could be set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines following the news that the City star has suffered a setback in training.

Although there has been no official update, respected journalist Kristof Terreur, who seems to have a good grasp of all things Belgium, confirmed that De Bruyne was injured on Wednesday. While tests to determine the full extent of the damage continue, Terreur does indicate that it could be serious, side-lining the playmaker for more than two months. Independent Manchester City fan account [@City_Watch] go as far as stating the injury is similar to the one which De Bruyne suffered in January 2016. During a Capital One Cup game at the Etihad, he appeared to catch his studs in the turf as he twisted, damaging his lateral collateral knee ligaments which kept him out until April [66 days]. De Bruyne had been working his way back to full fitness following his late return from international duty but is now walking with the aid of crutches and will travel to Barcelona over the coming to see Dr Ramon Cugat.

Summer signing Stuart Armstrong impressed on his Southampton debut until injury forced the midfielder off on the hour mark.

The 26-year-old, who arrived from Scottish Premiership outfit Celtic for £7m, pleased manager Mark Hughes with his overall performance and link-up play in the attacking third. "He made good runs and the longer he’s with us, we will be able to exploit them on more occasions and more readily." But, his afternoon was cut-short after taking an unspecified knock, although the Saints boss was quick to allay any concerns of a serious injury. "I saw him walking around in the dressing room and he looks fine. He just got a bang, so I imagine he’ll be okay, but we will check him tomorrow." Southampton travel to Goodison Park this weekend and Hughes must decide whether to stick with the three centre-halves which started in a 3-4-2-1 against Burnley or switch to a more orthodox [and familiar] flat back four in an attempt to stifle the attacking threat of Richarlison

Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal participated in full team training over the last few days as he looks to be ready for the weekend.

The Spanish international returned from the World Cup but suffered a knee injury that has kept him out of much of the preseason. But after being one of three starting defenders to miss the season-opening loss to Manchester City on Sunday (the other two being long-term absentees in Sead Kolasinac and Laurent Koscielny), Monreal is expected to return to the team this weekend for another big matchup, this time against Chelsea. But with an injury to Ainsley Maitland-Niles this weekend, Monreal could slot right back into the starting lineup in no time. Said manager Unai Emery: "Today we are going to do the medical analysis with the doctor [for Maitland-Niles]. Nacho is starting with the group, working yesterday and maybe he can come in, maybe, for the next match. I think every day is important to know how they are."

Heung-min Son is off to join his South Korean teammates as they get set to participate in the Asian Games tournament taking place in Indonesia.

As if there isn't enough pressure to perform for one's national team, Son's situation has even more on the line than the average footballer. South Korea require military service for their male citizens that must be served by the age of 27. Son has avoided this due to his football career up until now but he is about to hit that age. However, there is a way out of service for him. If he helps lead the country to a tournament win, he will be exempt from service. In the meantime, his absence should give Lucas Moura a few more weeks in a starting role.
