West Ham completed the signing on Colombia international midfielder Carlos Sanchez from Fiorentina in the closing stages of Deadline Day.

The experienced 32-year-old defensive midfielder has joined the Hammers on a two-year contract, arriving from Fiorentina for an undisclosed fee. The move represents Sanchez's second spell in the Premier League, having made 48 appearances for Aston Villa between 2014 and 2016. "It's an amazing opportunity and an amazing project the club are leading, being ambitious and keen to achieve good things," Sanchez told the club's official website. "I decided to come here because, first, it is the Premier League, second, it's a beautiful club and the fans are always helping the club." Sanchez becomes the ninth new arrival at the London Stadium since manager Manuel Pellegrini was appointed.

Mohamed Salah scored the only goal of the match as Liverpool picked up a tightly contested win at the John Smith Stadium.

He still doesn't look close to the dominating force of last season but Liverpool supporters and fantasy managers alike will welcome a sign of life from the Egypt international. Xherdan Shaqiri, subbing in for an injured Sadio Mane, assisted. The win sees the Reds maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

Brighton claimed their first away win of the season in a 1-0 victory at Newcastle, but the result came at a hefty cost, with striker Glenn Murray stretched off earlier following a clash of heads.

Murray went down in the ninth minute following a sickening aerial collision with Newcastle defender Federico Fernandez and taken off on a stretcher after six minutes of treatment. Despite losing their leading scorer this season, Brighton responded and scored what proved to be the decisive goal when Beram Kayal deflected in Jose Izquierdo's strike in the 29th minute. The Seagulls were under fire for the rest of the match as Newcastle attempted 27 shots on goal. Jonjo Shelvey went closest to finding the equaliser, but Mat Ryan twice denied the midfielder. Brighton is now 12th on 11 points, while the Magpies are bottom with just two points.

Abdoulaye Doucoure assisted on both goals less than a minute apart as Watford traveled to the Molineux and beat form team Wolves 2-0 to halt a 5 match winless drought.

Proof that momentum is great for stories in the media but meaningless when it comes to predicting results. Wolves had all of the positive signs. They were playing at home. They have been on a hot streak. Their opponents, Watford, were struggling mightily. Easy, home win, right? Not so fast. Doucoure's assists to Etienne Capoue and Roberto Pereyra in the 20th and 21st minutes respectively were all the scoring that this match would see and Watford would need to reverse the momentum of both clubs coming into the match.

Rui Patricio was good but not good enough to save Wolves from falling to their first defeat in the Premier League since mid-August.

Patricio didn't have much of a chance on either goal that was scored. The Portugal international was caught flatfooted with Etienne Capoue's opener went through the legs of one of his center backs. Just a minute later, Roberto Pereyra's effort was strong enough that no keeper would have saved it. Ultimately, for everyone who has invested in the Wolves back line and in Patricio for fantasy purposes, there's no need to panic. Watford are an above average team and they got the bounces on this day. Not great news for the short-term but there's no reason to be concerned that there's a trend building.

Scoring multiple goals for only the second time this season, Cardiff City left the relegation zone with a 4-2 win over Fulham.

It has been a rough start to the season for the Bluebirds that has them pinned as relegation favourites but a home clash with Fulham was just what the doctor ordered. Cardiff went behind early due to a close finish from Andre Schurrle but Josh Murphy equalized quickly. This game would then become a track meet but Cardiff wouldn’t trail the rest of the way. Bobby Reid (midfielder playing forward), Callum Paterson (Defender playing forward) and Kadeem Harris would all find the back of the net and Ryan Sessengnon would score Fulham’s other goal. It is only the second time that Cardiff has scored more than one goal this season and it takes them out of the relegation zone on goal difference for now.

Andre Schurrle scored for the second straight game but it wasn’t enough as Fulham fell 4-2 away to Cardiff City.

While scoring goals hasn’t been an issue for the Cottagers, defending has been a problem as Fulham has now allowed 25 goals on the season. It’s the worst number in the league by over six goals and no amount of goals that they can score will help as Fulham slipped into the relegation zone today. Andre Schurrle netted the opener in the 11th minute and then Cardiff put on a show with Josh Murphy, Bobby Reid, Callum Patterson, and Kadeem Harris all finding the back of the net. The one bright side is that Ryan Sessegnon also scored in the 34th minute but injuries to Joe Bryan, Calum Chambers, and Timothy Fosu-Mensah have Fulham leaking goals to a disturbing degree. It’s tough to trust them in fantasy unless this is resolved and if it isn’t they’ll likely mirror QPR in their relegation season in 2015.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing is targeting a return in December after stepping up his recovery from a serious knee ligament injury.

The Bluebirds winger has been side-lined since August after a heavy collision with Huddersfield Town goalkeeper Ben Hamer after just 10 minutes at the John Smith’s Stadium. It was initially feared that Mendez-Laing could miss the remainder of the campaign following a suggestion that he had damaged his anterior cruciate ligament, but tests revealed it was the posterior ligament meaning he could potentially return before Christmas without the need of surgery. "He’s done really well," City’s Head of Medical Services Matthew May said. "He’s a couple of months post-injury now, and he’s just starting on the anti-gravity treadmill. There’ll be a two-week build-up on that before we’ll get him out on the grass. So, we’re hopefully looking to see him back to training and match-play around six weeks from now." Neil Warnock has switched between Josh Murphy and Junior Hoilett in his absence with neither player being able to nail down a starting berth.

Southampton's visit to the Vitality Stadium to face Bournemouth on Saturday ended up in a scoreless draw.

The team news reveal an hour before kick-off was probably the most dramatic moment concerning the game. Ryan Fraser and Josh King passed late fitness tests to unexpectedly start. Charlie Austin and Danny Ings led the Saints' line. Callum Wilson had a chance in the opening minute whilst Brooks and Hojbjerg also recorded first half efforts. Mario Lemina picked up a knock and was replaced after the hour mark, just minutes after Josh King toed a good opportunity wide. Both sides had a few more chances, and Bournemouth had a penalty appeal turned down as a tackle by Cedric was adjudged to be legal. The battle of the south coast left us goalless, though Southampton needed a win much more than the Cherries.

Erik Lamela made the most of his first league start of the season, scoring the only goal in a tight contest as Tottenham grabbed a big derby win over West Ham United, 0-1.

It was not impressive and it could have easily gone down as a draw but, on a day without the likes of Dele Alli and Jan Vertonghen, and with Christian Eriksen making the briefest of cameos late on, Spurs had just enough to keep pace in the upper reaches of the table. They got the goal they needed from Lamela who, after scoring twice this season as a substitute, repaid the boss' selection just before halftime, delivering a glancing header from a nice cross by Moussa Sissoko. The defense showed signs of cracking at stages during the match, but were able to stay the course with Hugo Lloris coming up with a crucial save near the end of the game, making himself big in a 1 v 1 showdown against Marko Arnautovic. Spurs will hope to have Eriksen ready, along with possibly Alli, for their marquee matchup with Manchester City next weekend.

Manchester City has pulled clear atop the table, for now with Liverpool yet to play, after a 5-0 win against Burnley.

In the 17th minute, Sergio Aguero opened the scoring with his 149th Premier League goal for City, putting him behind only Wayne Rooney and Thierry Henry. But the game turned in the 54th with a controversial goal as Leroy Sane was denied a penalty. Both teams stopped playing as the referee put the whistle to his mouth but didn't call the penalty, leading to a loose ball that David Silva, who supplied the first goal, passed across for Bernardo Silva to score. Fernandinho and Riyad Mahrez then added a pair of spectacular outside-of-the-box goals. Leroy Sane added the fifth and final goal in the 90th to end Burnley's dismal day.

West Ham United could not find the net today but will feel like they deserved at least a point as they were on the losing end of a close contest, falling to Tottenham 0-1.

Playing much better in the past month than they did to begin the season, West Ham will feel a but frustrated with today's result, as they caught a Tottenham side not at their strongest. The sides were evenly matched in the first half, with Marko Arnautovic looking the biggest threat, getting behind the opposing defense on a couple of occasions. The mood was dampened late in the first half though, when Andriy Yarmolenko suffered a nasty injury that caused him to be stretchered off. Then, Spurs grabbed a back-breaking goal just before halftime. That said, Spurs had a chance for more, but Lukasz Fabianski turned in another class performance, making a pair of double saves on the day. By keeping his teammates within a goal, it came right down to the wire with another chance for Arnautovic, who sliced through the defense to take the keeper on 1 v 1 but his shot was stopped and the bid to edge a draw came up empty.
