Luke Shaw will miss Manchester United's clash with Watford this weekend as he takes a compulsory 7 day break to recover from a suspected concussion.

The left-back suffered in the injury on Saturday night in an accidental clash of heads with Spain's Dani Carvajal at Wembley on Saturday night. England manager Gareth Southgate confirmed on Monday that Shaw spent a few days being seen after by the national team medical team before returning to Manchester United's training base at Carrington on Monday."He was obviously knocked out before he hit the floor. Our medical team dealt with that really well I think. He's spent the last day with us for some recovery and he has gone back to his club", said Southgate. "All being well, he has a mandatory seven-day period that he has to serve with the concussion, but he should be back in the fold as soon as that's done," he added. Shaw was clearly knocked out cold by the incident but regained consciousness and managed to tweet a reassurance to fans at the weekend.

Liverpool confirm Sadio Mane has successfully undergone surgery after injuring his hand while on international duty.

Speaking ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier with Sudan on Tuesday, Senegal coach Aliou Cisse revealed Mane wouldn’t be considered for the return game in Khartoum after breaking the first metacarpal [thumb] in his left hand. Although the injury was not thought to be serious, Mane was assessed on his return to Melwood and it was agreed that surgery, conducted at a north-west hospital, was the best course of action. Despite the operation being a success, his involvement at Huddersfield hangs in the balance and his recovery will be monitored over the next couple of days. With Naby Keita and Mohamed Salah [both hamstring] also at risk of missing out on Saturday, Jurgen Klopp could be forced into a tactical switch at the John Smith’s Stadium with Xherdan Shaqiri and Daniel Sturridge pushing to be included in the starting XI.

Robbie Brady made a significant step toward his return to top flight action after putting in a full 90 minute shift and scoring a goal in a behind-closed-doors match.

Brady has been on the shelf since December of last year, with an attempted return in the preseason thwarted by a setback. This time around, progress has gone uninterrupted and this latest update would lead one to expect a return within the next month. Depending on the size of your draft league, he should be on your radar as a player to stash. Once fully fit, Brady is likely to find a regular role where his dangerous left foot can be utilized. Johann Berg Gudmundsson has been stationed on the left flank and has had great success, but he would likely shift to the right side in order to accommodate Brady. Assuming Sean Dyche sticks with his preferred 4-4-2 shape, Aaron Lennon is most likely to lose minutes with a healthy Brady available.

Stephen Ward is facing a spell on the sidelines following surgery to remedy a niggling knee problem.

The Republic of Ireland international was forced to withdraw from the recent Nations League fixtures after aggravating the injury during the Carabao Cup defeat at Burton Albion last month. Ward met with a specialist who advised that a "tidying-up procedure" would be the best course of action. The 33-year-old has been restricted to just three Premier League starts this term – all in August – having also struggled due to a foot complaint. Charlie Taylor will now look to establish himself under Sean Dyche following a slow start to his Clarets career since arriving from Leeds United in 2017. Elsewhere, there was better news for Burnley as Robbie Brady [knee and hamstring] scored and completed 90 minutes in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Tuesday, a match which also saw Steven Defour handed some valuable game time. Ashley Barnes, Tom Heaton, Phil Bardsley and Chris Wood were named in a strong side which cruised to a comfortable 6-3 win over AFC Fylde.

Naby Keita is the latest Liverpool player to pick up an injury during the international break.

The summer signing from Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig has enjoyed a promising start to his Premier League career, featuring in all eight games, but the Guinea international is at risk of missing out this weekend after suffering a suspected hamstring strain. Keita was carried off during the first half of Tuesdays Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Rwanda clutching the back of his thigh and his involvement at Huddersfield hangs in the balance. With Mo Salah and James Milner [both hamstring] and Sadio Mane [broken thumb] all doubts for game week nine, Jurgen Klopp could be forced into a major reshuffle. The Reds have a Champions League tie versus Crvena Zvezda four days later and the Liverpool boss won’t want to take any unnecessary risks meaning Xherdan Shaqiri and Daniel Sturridge are in pole position for a starting role at the John Smith’s Stadium. Meanwhile, Fabinho is in line to make his Premier League debut.

Bournemouth's Lewis Cook is determined to keep his starting place for Bournemouth having spent August and September watching on from the bench.

The 21 year-old midfielder played just 29 minutes in the opening two months of the season before returning to the first XI for the recent two victories over Crystal Palace and Watford. "I wasn’t frustrated, you just have to be patient. It’s such a hard league you have to take your chances," he told the Daily Echo. Cook's attitude to the period appears to have been good before and afterwards. He understands his teammates started the season well and Eddie Howe has praised his professionalism. Cook is starting on the bench for England's U-21 side on Tuesday in a European qualifier.

Southampton's Stuart Armstrong's appearance for Scotland against Portugal at the weekend was cut short as he limped off with an apparent calf injury.

Armstrong, a £7m summer signing from Celtic, has yet to make an impact at St. Mary's, having failed to start a game since August. His 77 minute run-out against the current European Champions was his longest appearance all season, though he showed a few good moments in spite of his lack of game time. Before going off, Armstrong played as a holding midfielder as the Scots absorbed pressure from their superior opponents who recorded a 3-1 win on the night.

Manchester United manager José Mourinho has been charged by the Football Association for alleged use of obscene language following his side's dramatic comeback win against Newcastle.

The Portuguese appeared to mouth foul language at the cameras as he departed the pitch in the wake of the 3-2 victory. According to an FA statement Mourinho has until 6 pm on Friday 19 October 2018 to respond to the charge. He may face a touchline ban if he accepts the charge, which could see him miss Saturday's clash at Stamford Bridge against his old club, Chelsea.

Norway and Bournemouth frontman Josh King suffered an ankle injury in the Scandinavian team's 1-0 win over Slovenia in the UEFA Nations League at the weekend.

In quotes published by Norway's Aftenposten and published in English by Bournemouth's local outlet the Daily Echo, King reported his ankle stiffening in the aftermath of the Slovenia game. He said a player fell over his leg but it felt alright at the time, leading him to playing on the injury. King has not been ruled out of Tuesday night's clash against Bulgaria, but should he miss that encounter he will be a doubt for the Southampton game on Saturday afternoon.

Gareth Southgate's England claimed a huge scalp on Monday evening in Seville when they inflicted defeat upon Spain on their home turf.

The final score on the night was 3-2 in a game of two halves, where England were at one point leading by three. Central to the victory was Marcus Rashford, who scored once past his club mate David de Gea in the Spanish nets and was a key component of the press England deployed. Rashford and Raheem Sterling targeted Spain full-backs Marcos Alonso and Wolves' Jonny, whilst Harry Kane played slightly deeper. In addition to his goal, Rashford also teed up Raheem Sterling for one of his brace, as all three goals the Three Lions scored took advantage of the Manchester-based players' pace. Rashford now has three goals in his last four starts for England, and will return to United training on Wednesday buoyed by a fantastic international break.

Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic is an injury doubt for Saturday's clash at Stamford Bridge against his old club, Chelsea.

Last week, Matic withdrew from Serbia's squad for the current international break, and he has been undergoing treatment at United's Carrington training base since the PL went off our screens. Jose Mourinho will be desperate to have the imposing figure of Matic in United's midfield for his first meeting with Sarri's Chelsea. He will have to concoct another plan to keep Eden Hazard quiet, something that will only be made easier by the presence of Matic.

Netherlands national team manager Ronald Koeman confirmed that Virgil van Dijk is fit despite leaving the team.

The former Everton coach said there was a previous agreement with Liverpool to allow Van Dijk to play against Germany before being sent back to the club to rest after playing through the pain of a niggling rib injury. It comes as welcomed news to Liverpool fans as Sadio Mane's status is up in the air after suffering a broken thumb while Mohamed Salah has also suffered an injury during the international break. Said Koeman: [Van Dijk] "He's back in Liverpool but he is ready to play for next week. He's taken a rest. He spoke to the manager. The medical staff of the Dutch national team spoke to the medical staff of Liverpool and made the decision that he was playing only the Germany game and then after back to Liverpool. He is ready to play next weekend."
