Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has backed striker Steven Fletcher to go on a goalscoring run once he is back to full fitness.

Fletcher has endured a difficult time with injuries after missing the start of this season and the last two months of last term with an ankle problem, but is starting to look sharper and his partnership with Jozy Altidore seems to be starting to gel. The striker's goals will be vital as Sunderland look to continue their improved form under Poyet and escape their current position in the relegation zone.

According to teammate Bobby Zamora, Vargas is "still finding his seat since coming to the Premier League" from Serie A.

Vargas played limited minutes in QPR's 4-0 loss to Man United, but since then has started the last two consecutive matches, notching an assist in the team's 2-1 loss to Southampton this past weekend. "He’s come all the way over here and he doesn’t speak any English so it takes time," said Zamora. Hopefully the 24 year-old can give a boost to the club's attack from here on out because with the way things look right now, QPR will need everything they can get to escape relegation at the end of the season.

After his midweek goal in the English League Cup, Jozy Altidore called on the rest of his teammates to be a little "nastier". He also spoke about rejoining the first team.

Jozy Altidore scored his first goal of 2014-15 for Sunderland during a 2-1 home loss to Stoke City in the third round of the English League Cup, his first since December 4, 2013 (vs Chelsea). After the game he told reporters that his teammates need to be "tougher" and that his focus is on making it back into the first team. Unfortunately, his goal (plus the pep talk) didn't turn into minutes vs Swansea. With just 57 minutes played in the PL this season, Jozy will need a lot to fall his way in order for him to have any chance of rejoining the first team. For now, he's got a long ways to go before earning a spot in Gus Poyet's starting XI.

After conceding at least one goal in each of the first four games, Vito Mannone and Sunderland hold Swansea goalless to earn their second consecutive shutout.

Sunderland have been one of the weakest offensive teams in the PL after six games. Good thing for them, they've also been one of the stingiest when it comes to conceding. Thru six games Sunderland have given up just 6 goals, good for third-best in the league. Their schedule has been favorable to start the year so look for them to start conceding in the near future. Over the next eight games they'll face the top four, plus a few middle-of-the-pack teams. Hold onto Vito this week, but look for a replacement when they travel to Southampton in two weeks.

Frazier Campbell helps Crystal Palace improve to 2-0-2 under new boss Neil Warnock.

Second-half goals from Campbell and captain Mile Jedinak were enough for Palace to clinch all three points Saturday, as it won at home for the first time this season. It looks like Campbell has cemented himself in the starting XI for the time being. You can't expect him to produce like this week-in-week-out at this point, but it's good to see him getting goals in consecutive matches against quality opponents. Palace will play Hull on the road this week before facing off against the Premier League leaders - Chelsea - at home.

Chelsea striker Diego Costa will not skip international duty with Spain next week despite his nagging muscle injuries.

Costa has played through all of his injuries and has been on a prolific goal scoring spree in the past month, but Jose Mourinho was certainly hoping his star striker would take the international week off. This is both good and bad news for fantasy managers. Good news is that Costa feels healthy enough to play for Spain but the bad news is that he is putting himself at a high risk of injury. Follow Costa's status before Premier League matches but as of now we don't think he is in danger of missing time.

Sadio Mane played very well in his Southampton debut and should have a cemented starting spot going ahead.

Mane is a very fast attacking midfielder/winger who can create danger for any Premier League opposition. He was active the entire match and created chances for his teammates, ending the match with an assist, two shots on target, and three fouls won among a series of other stats. What was impressive was that he finished with 12 fantasy points despite receiving a yellow card. He is a fantastic player to own in fantasy and at £ 7.51 M, he gives you a great differential option.

Nemanja Matic has become an integral part to Chelsea's success in both the Premier League and Champions League.

Matic scored a goal to give Chelsea a 1-0 win over Sporting Lisbon to further prove his worth. The defensive midfielder is mostly known for his contributions on the defensive side of the pitch, but he also provides an important passing skill to the Chelsea attack. The problem with Matic comes in fantasy. He doesn't provide enough attacking stats to give fantasy managers enough production, only averaging six points per game. Avoid him in fantasy but enjoy his importance on Chelsea's squad.

Rio Ferdinand has been on the field for all 13 goals QPR has conceded to start the season.

Ferdinand has had a few blunders this season already, including Hull City's winner on opening day and another on a giveaway against Southampton this past weekend. QPR have conceded four goals twice this season already and eight goals in its last three matches. It's not all Ferdinand's fault, but it doesn't look good on him at this point. He could find his way to the bench if the right player comes along. Until then, stay away from any QPR defenders, other than perhaps, Steven Caulker.

Arsenal dominated Galatasaray 4-1 at the Emirates in Champions League action behind a Danny Welbeck hat trick.

Danny Welbeck announced his claim as Arsenal's first choice center forward with a Champions League hat trick at home against Galatasaray on Wednesday. With news of Olivier Giroud's contract extension coming yesterday questions about who the starter might be when both are healthy were raised. Welbeck provided his answer with a clinical hat trick. The frightening thing is that he could have had a couple more. He certainly looks like he could follow in the footsteps of Daniel Sturridge in finding a home after a transfer between big clubs. Alexis Sanchez also scored for Arsenal and Wojciech Szczesny was red carded.

Ryan Shawcross has been a standout for Stoke City and fantasy managers alike and his excellence continued in the Week 6 clean sheet win over Newcastle.

Ryan Shawcross's name was linked with a return to the club he came up with, Manchester United, a number of years ago but since that infatuation faded (if it was ever there) he has faded from the collective consciousness somewhat. A pillar at Stoke City since 2008, it is easy to forget about him. With the advent of statistics that describe central defending play, Shawcross has started to re-emerge for fans and fantasy managers. In the Yahoo format he is averaging just over 10 points/match this season on performances like the one he put in on Monday. Three blocked shots, two interceptions and a tackle won leading to a clean sheet is a lot of fantasy goodness in almost any format. Expect his solidity to continue.

Nacer Chadli has four of Tottenham's eight goals (six games) to start the season.

Chadli's most important goal of his career to date was washed away when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain equalized for Arsenal in the North London Derby this past weekend. Nevertheless, Chadli has rightfully earned a spot in Mauricio Pochettino's starting XI. He's the leading scorer on a top 10 team who'll need continued production from him if the rest of his supporting cast keeps coming up dry. He's in form and looks to be progressing. Add him to your Yahoo Fantasy PL team while his price is still fairly reasonable.
