West Ham United likely sealed Martin Jol's fate as Fulham manager with a 3-0 win over the Cottagers at the Boleyn Ground today.

Mohamed Diame, Carlton Cole, and then Joe Cole were on target for the Hammers as they compounded Fulham's misery. The goal outburst was also important for West Ham who had been in a goal scoring rut in recent weeks. The match also saw the return of Carlton Cole (and any center forward really) to the West Ham starting line-up. The hope for Sam Allardyce's men will be that they can continue scoring when the competition gets better.

West Ham will be without defender James Collins for Friday's match against Brighton and Hove Albion.

The 34-year-old has missed the last three matches after he suffered an ankle injury during a goalless draw with West Brom in mid-Sept. His absence on Friday should see Winston Reid and Jose Fonte continue at center-back, while Angelo Ogbonna will be available off the substitute's bench. However, manager Slaven Bilic suggested in his pre-match press conference the Wales international and striker Diafra Sakho could both be back for next Wednesday's Carabao Cup match against Tottenham. "James Collins is out for a matter of days and Sakho has back pain," said Bilic. "They could both be back for the Spurs game."

Troy Deeney has only started one match so far this season but after a goal, albeit from the penalty spot, in the win against Arsenal he will hope he gets the call against Chelsea.

After two strong seasons as a Premier League target man, the benching of Troy Deeney has been almost as surprising as Watford's start to the season. If Andre Gray were hitting the back of the net regularly you might understand but the summer signing from Burnley has been merely OK replacing Deeney. With Deeney dispatching a strong penalty to draw the Hornets even with Arsenal last weekend, it will be interesting to see if he is given a chance to reclaim his place in the starting line-up.

Crystal Palace is expected to have Wayne Hennessey back in goal for the weekend match against Newcastle.

The Welsh keeper returned from the international break with a calf injury that kept him out of the club's first win of the season in a 2-1 upset of Chelsea last weekend. And while Julian Speroni filled in, Hennessey looks set to regain his place in the starting XI for the trip to Newcastle this weekend after being cleared. "Wayne Hennessey has recovered from the kick he received playing against Ireland, so we have a clean bill of health" manager Roy Hodgson said. "We're lucky that we have no further injuries, apart from the two long-term ones in Christian Benteke and Connor Wickham."

Arsenal's Europa League successful campaign continued in Belgrade as the Gunners beat Red Star on a late, spectacular goal from Olivier Giroud.

The France international's chances have been few and far between in the Premier League but he showed in the late going that he still has some magic in his boots. It was no scorpion kick but it was an impressive quasi-bicycle with his left foot from a looping header from just wide of the net. The tally was important as the Gunners were on the verge of leaving the Serbian capital with only a point and at least giving Red Star some hope of topping the group. With the win, the Gunners open a five point lead in the Group H standings. The Gunners took advantage of a red card to Milan Rodic in the 80th minute. Without the dismissal it might have been an uncomfortable nil-nil draw. The win should give the Gunners freedom to play increasingly inexperienced line-ups as the group stage wraps up which will help with their Premier League efforts as the fixture schedule gets clogged up.

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford will be assessed after he was forced off during the 1-0 win over Benfica in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Jose Mourinho believed the 19-year-old was suffering from cramp when he went down in the 75th minute, but he later confirmed that Rashford was injured: "I thought it was muscular fatigue. But no, he told me he felt something in his knee. It didn't look to me like a big thing but we don't know." Phil Jones will also be checked ahead of the trip to Huddersfield as he continues to struggle due to an ongoing knee problem, although barring any further setbacks, the centre-back will be available. However, "it will be difficult" for Eric Bailly to make the trip while Saturday will come too soon for Paul Pogba [hamstring] and Marouane Fellaini [knee]. Marcos Rojo is said to be a "few weeks" away but his return is likely to be with the under-23s as he builds fitness.

Chelsea were dealt a triple injury blow on Wednesday evening although none are believed to be serious.

Speaking after his sides 3-3 draw with Roma in the Champions League, Antonio Conte responded to questions about David Luiz, who was enraged following his withdrawal on the hour mark. The Chelsea boss revealed his substitution was more of a precaution due to a calf complaint: "I think it was a good decision to try to protect him. Also, because, I repeat, in this moment it's very important to protect the players. Then I changed the system and I preferred to change." Tiemoue Bakayoko played the full 90 minutes, but Conte confirmed the midfielder has a minor groin issue while Gary Cahill finished the game with his head and chin wrapped in a bandage following a cut, although it’s "nothing serious" and the captain will be okay for Saturday. Victor Moses and N’Golo Kante [both hamstring] will miss the game against 4th placed London rivals Watford at Stamford Bridge.

As Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson continues to return to first team fitness after a knee injury, he looks forward to playing alongside Jermain Defoe.

Wilson, 25, scored a hat-trick in just 32 minutes for the reserves in a 4-2 win over Southend United in the Central League on Tuesday. Whilst he is yet to get back to the field for the first team, he has been training with the squad, including fellow forward Defoe. Wilson spoke of his admiration for Defoe and his career to date as well as the bond in the striker "department" at Bournemouth. Wilson added: "It would be good to play alongside him... You can learn a lot from him. He has been good in training, which is why the manager has been playing him and Kingy (Joshua King)." Wilson was also happy to report that he is "knocking on the door" and ready to get minutes for the first team once he's called upon.

Brighton centre-back Shane Duffy is surprisingly in with a chance of playing for his club against West Ham on Friday night.

Duffy limped off towards the end of The Seagulls' 1-1 draw with Everton on Sunday with a groin complaint. There were fears that the Republic of Ireland defender could miss a number of weeks with the injury. However, Chris Hughton gave a very positive update on Duffy's progress in his pre-match press conference on Thursday: "At the moment we think he'll be okay. He hasn't trained. We're hoping he'll train this morning." If Duffy comes through that session you can expect him to start against the Hammers.

Brighton have made a decent start to life in the Premier League, remaining on target to survive with 8 points from their opening 8 games.

However, the Seagulls have just one point from a possible dozen on their travels and scored just one goal away from home, against Bournemouth. Club captain Bruno has publicly called on his teammates to improve on their paltry away returns on Friday when they travel to the London Stadium to meet West Ham: "We need to get some points away. That is so important. We’ve got a big chance on Friday. They (West Ham) have got a big squad and good players. It’s going to be another really tough game." Manager Chris Hughton was also keen to ensure that Bruno is not blamed for his foul which led to Everton's equalising penalty on Sunday insisting that those incidents happen all the time and that Bruno was unlucky not to get away with it. A win on Friday would see Brighton soar into the PL's top half.

Southampton playmaker Dusan Tadic has claimed that his team are not mentally weak, though he admits that they are suffering from nerves in home games.

The Saints' home form is yet to show on upturn since Mauricio Pellegrino took charge, with just one win in five and few goals scored representing little change from the much-maligned reign of Claude Puel. The manager himself has called for extra aggression and speed against West Brom on Saturday to quieten the boo-boys at St. Mary's. "Sometimes we miss chances and then the opponents score the first goal and we become a bit nervous," explained Tadic. "This is may be one of the problems. I don't know really, but it's true when we're at home and away we need to be more aggressive and play much faster." The Serbian midfielder also spoke of his desire to give frustrated home fans something to cheer about from the first whistle as Southampton fans have continually criticised their side for pedestrian attempts to open opposition defences.

Christian Benteke is poised for an early return to action having been sidelined since September because of injury.

The Crystal Palace striker suffered knee ligament damage at Manchester City in game week six leaving the Eagles without a recognised forward following the departure of Loic Remy and Fraizer Campbell while Connor Wickham is still recovering from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament. The news follows quickly on from the return of Wilfried Zaha who helped orchestrate his sides first win on Saturday, a victory which Roy Hodgson hopes can be used as a platform to kickstart their season. Although the trip to Newcastle will come too soon, Benteke is targeting a return within a "few weeks" and could feature before the next international break. "The rehab is going really well and I'm feeling really happy with the way that my ligament is healing. I really want to help the team and do well this year to make sure I'm in the [World Cup] squad."
