Christian Benteke was back in the starting XI for Aston Villa after riding the bench during their midweek match with Southampton but the Belgian international's scoring drought continued and the Lions were tamed by Fulham in a 2-0 loss.

Clearly there is something wrong with Benteke right now. After picking up where he left off last season by scoring 4 goals through four games played, Benteke has not added to his account since. One has to speculate whether the knee injury that kept him out for a couple of weeks has never fully healed or if he is mentally in a bad place. It has been too long a stretch to give credit to all opponents taking him out of the game. Whatever the reason, enough has been seen to wait for his form to return before considering him for selection in your lineup. Luckily for Villa, other players have stepped up in the past few months and they have remained competitive.

Hamburg director Dietmar Beiersdorfer has confirmed the club’s interest in Tottenham midfielder Lewis Holtby.

Holtby has never really settled at White Hart Lane and spent the final few months of the last campaign on loan to Fulham. The 23-year-old is determined to get regular first team football this season, but has so far failed to start in the league under Mauricio Pochettino, and with Spurs overloaded with midfield options it could be best for all parties if Holtby was allowed to return to Germany before the transfer window closes on Sunday.

Dwight Gayle scored a first-half hat-trick as Crystal Palace eased past Walsall and into the third round of the Capital One Cup.

This was a much needed confidence booster for the Eagles, who have lost their first two Premier League games and are continuing to struggle without a manager. Gayle has shown moments of class since signing with the club in the summer of 2013 including a brace of goals to derail Liverpool's title challenge back in May, and his hat-trick last night should earn the striker the opportunity to start against Newcastle in Week 3.

Eric Dier is the only player to be featured in both editions of the Best XI.

Dier has had two impressive fantasy weeks so far, with 20 and 24 point displays to show for it. He plays on a respectable Spurs defense and has flashed huge attacking potential, making him likely to continue impressing fantasy managers. At his current price, we recommend him as a fantasy choice in the coming weeks, but the schedule will get tougher and he will not be scoring 20 points every week.

Angel di Maria's move from Real Madrid to Manchester United for approximately $100million has been completed today.

The hero of last season's Champions League final and one of the best players in Europe for the past couple years, Angel di Maria represents a real statement by Manchester United. It has been many years since United flexed their fiscal muscle to buy one of the biggest talents in the world in the prime of his career. Making such a move for Maria in addition to bringing in Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera, and Marcos Rojo with others (Daley Blind? Arturo Vidal?) potentially to follow helps reverse years of talent erosion within the squad. It is questionable whether United will be able to challenge Chelsea and Manchester City this season but their big spending certainly puts them back in the frame to contend in the near future.

Manchester United were shocked 4-0 by MK Dons in League Cup action tonight.

On the night that the red half of Manchester was celebrating the arrival of Angel di Maria a mixed team of senior and relative youngsters were thrashed 4-0 by MK Dons. The starting team did contain Johnny Evans, Danny Welbeck, and Adnan Januzaj so the loss can't be completely dismissed as the result of young players. Di Maria or not Louis Van Gaal has his work cut out for him getting the club back to their former glory.

Everton have announced the signing of veteran striker Samuel Eto'o to a two-year deal on a free transfer after his contract with Chelsea expired at the end of last season.

Looking for depth at the forward position with Arouna Kone returning from injury slowly, Roberto Martinez announced the signing of Samuel Eto'o as a deputy to Romelu Lukaku. In a vacuum, the signing of Eto'o is a solid piece of business as Everton are very thin behind Lukaku. The only concern is that Eto'o is old and expensive and, presumably, resources are limited at Goodison Park. With Sylvain Distin, Gareth Barry and Eto'o there is a lot of money tied up in aging expensive players. It may not happen this season but next season comes with the risk of a high wage bill being spent on players who are declining rapidly.

After a summer of speculation, Michael Dawson has made a permanent move from Tottenham to Hull City.

Steve Bruce has been searching all summer for an upgrade at center back. After being rebuffed in efforts to sign Steven Caulker, Joleon Lescott and others, Bruce finally got his man in the form of Spurs stalwart Michael Dawson. Dawson was available after being supplanted at Spurs by Jan Vertonghen, Younes Kaboul and Eric Dier with rumors of another center back floating around as well. Dawson should see significantly more playing time at Hull City than he would have at Spurs.

Not only were Liverpool on the receiving end of a hugely efficient Manchester City performance leaving The Etihad pointless but the away side also left with a number of injury concerns following their disappointing defeat on Monday.

Brendan Rodgers defensive problems deepened after his side conceded three sloppy goals against their fellow title contenders and finished the game with ten men although conceivably things could’ve easily have been worse. Glenn Johnson picked up a thigh problem late into the game as the Reds foraged for some score-line respectability; the England full-back was unable to continue and having already made three substitutions Liverpool finished a man down. Debutant Alberto Moreno (ankle) and Martin Skrtel (knock) also suffered injuries and all three players will be assessed ahead of Sunday’s crucial game at Tottenham.

Mixed team news ahead of Tuesday’s Capital One Cup match as Alan Irvine has included James Morrison and Christian Gamboa in the squad to face Oxford United with Victor Anichebe and Sebastien Pocognoli missing out.

Encouraging updates from the Baggies manager as James Morrison has returned quicker than expected following his summer surgery to address a knee problem while new signing Christian Gamboa will get a chance to improve his match-fitness although a return to the Premier League won’t be likely until after the international break. However West Brom forward Victor Anichebe (groin) and Sebastien Pocognoli (thigh) are not fit after the duo suffered respective muscular problems during the draw with Southampton. The club are hopeful the pair will be available to travel to the Liberty Stadium on Saturday to face Garry Monk’s Swansea City side.

Martin Kelly was a star fantasy performer in Week 2 despite his side Crystal Palace's defeat to West Ham.

Kelly was recently signed from Liverpool, is starting on the right-hand side of the Palace defence and looks like he'll be a prolific point scorer in the Yahoo fantasy game. The 24-year-old picked up eight fantasy points in Week 2 thanks to a host of tackles won and passes intercepted and can still be added to your fantasy team for less than £2million. He could prove a handy cheap option to keep on your bench as back-up to your starting XI.

Emmanuel Adebayor starred for Tottenham as they thrashed Queens Park Rangers 4-0 in Week 2.

We all know Adebayor can blow hot or cold, but when he's happy and enjoying his football he remains one of the most complete strikers in the Premier League. Sunday was an example of the striker at his best, with an assist, a goal and a couple of shots on target, as well as a whole lot of hard work for his team. Adebayor was rewarded with 19 points in the Yahoo game, and it could be a prolific seasons if he remains the focal point of a exciting attacking line-up under Mauricio Pochettino.
