James Milner inspired a superb Manchester City comeback to end Bayern Munich's record run of 10 consecutive Champions League wins.

Bayern were dominant early on as Thomas Muller struck before Mario Gotze scored to put the home side 2-0 up. The returning David Silva pulled a goal back from close range, Aleksandar Kolarov equalised with a penalty after James Milner was tripped before Milner's fine finish won the match for City. Manuel Pellegrini rested Vincent Kompany, Yaya Toure, Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo, making the result all the more impressive.

Man City are reported to have entered the race to sign Everton defender John Stones, with Chelsea preparing a third bid…

Everton have so far resisted two bids from Chelsea for John Stones. An initial water-testing £20 million followed by a ‘let’s get serious’ £26m. But the noises coming out of both clubs suggest it is merely a question of finding the tipping point before the deal happens. Jose Mourinho has mused he might have offer a record-breaking figure to get his man. Gary Gahill has urged his young England team-mate to jump and Stone’s himself is apparently keen to go. Enter Man City… It seems that last season’s runners-up are getting twitchy about the Champions further strengthening, so are readying a bid themselves. Whether it is to bolster their own defense or just weaken Chelsea’s is not clear. But the bidding war it could create will at least provide Everton with that record fee they are after.

Crystal Palace striker Glenn Murray is reported to be on the hit-list of Premier League debutants Bournemouth, for a fee in the region of £2 million…

Much of the pre-season talk at Palace has been about players coming in, but one who looks to be on his way out is Glenn Murray. The former Brighton striker was Palace’s top scorer last term, hitting seven goals and providing three assists. Not a huge total perhaps, but to his credit it only took him nine starts to outstrip Palace’s other striking options – all of whom played more. Boss Alan Pardew has been clear in his intention to bring in a center-forward though – adding Chelsea youngster Patrick Bamford on loan, but also pursuing Loic Remy and Charlie Austin. Murray might be the least suited to the counter attacking style that did well for Pardew last season, or perhaps the only one he can get a fee for. Bournemouth see Murray as an ideal foil for their top scorer last season Callum Wilson, who signed a new four year deal this week.

Everton have targeted Swansea skipper Ashley Williams as the man to replace John Stones, despite manager Garry Monk stressing he is not for sale…

Earlier this week Swansea boss Garry Monk was adamant that his skipper Ashley Williams was not for sale. This was in response to Crystal Palace’s approach, amid reports they were prepared to spend up to £10m for the Welsh international center-back. Since then ESPN have reported that Everton have identified Williams as the man to replace John Stones, should he leave for Chelsea. The message now coming out of Swansea is Williams would cost £25m. An extortionately high fee for a 30-year-old, but not the same as ‘not for sale.’ Everton are aggressively holding out for a £30m+ fee for Stones but that money will not do them any good in the bank, with only one other senior defender in the current squad. And Swansea will know this only too well.

In a lively first half that saw all the goals, The MLS All-Stars would score twice to defeat Tottenham 2-1.

The two sides traded blows with MLS legend Nick Rimando stopping Harry Kane twice from point blanks range. Nacer Chadli committed handball, giving MLS a penalty chance converted by Kaka. Kane would get his goal after Spurs fell 2-0 down, unleashing an accurate blast from distance. Though chances came fewer in the second half, it was a solid shift by many of Spurs youngsters, including Dele Alli. Interesting of note in fantasy terms is how Mauricio Pochettino turned to Ben Davies to start at left back over Danny Rose, when seemingly the other three starting defenders, Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Kyle Walker are looking the favorites to win their respective jobs.

Manchester United ended their USA tour with a 2-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain.

Manchester United started the match as the better squad but couldn't capitalize on their chances and saw PSG take the lead from Blaise Matuidi. Zlatan Ibrahimovic made it 2-0 ten minutes before half-time and Louis van Gaal's side never recovered. Manchester United were aiming for a perfect record in the International Champions Cup after they defeated Club America, San Jose Earthquakes, and Barcelona in their first three matches, but they'll have to go home with a loss now. They open up the season against Tottenham on August 8th.

Riyad Mahrez notched his second goal of preseason as Leicester City defeated Rotherham United 1-2.

Claudio Ranieri unsurprisingly named a completely different side than the one that defeated Burton Albion only yesterday, with Mahrez looking noticeably sharp along with Jeffrey Schlupp and David Nugent, the latter of whom scored the other goal for the Foxes. Ranieri has a plethora of option in attack and may opt for a rotation at several positions but it looks like Mahrez should see the most time of the wide midfielders on the roster. Schlupp isn't getting classified as a defender in some formats anymore but has the chance of being a fantasy asset regardless and Nugent, despite scoring today, is still behind Jamie Vardy, Shinji Okazaka, Andrej Kramaric and Leo Ulloa in the battle for minutes at forward.

Sunderland lost for the third time in their last four preseason tilts, today looking unsettled in a 2-0 loss to League One side Doncaster Rovers.

It may be yet another fight to the finish in an effort to avoid relegation this season for Sunderland if the preseason has any bearing on what is to come. Outside of a brace in Toronto for Jermain Defoe that took a few minutes to achieve, the attack has been ineffective and the defense were left today asking questions about the two goals they conceded. One in particular was the fault of Rodwell who failed to clear a ball and allowed Doncaster to capitalize. Outside of Patrick van Aanholt, there isn't much the Black Cats are offering to begin the season that would appeal to managers. Perhaps they will kick it into another gear when things begin to matter, but it would be nice to see better from them in their final tune up with Hannover.

Newcastle United continued their lackluster preseason with a 2-0 loss to York City, but it appears Steve McClaren has big plans for Ayoze Perez in the coming campaign.

The Magpies have two losses and a draw in their past three preseason matches, giving up eight goals in the process. Say what you want about it only being preseason but that is not encouraging considering the state of affairs the club was in when last season ended. Aleksandar Mitrovic made his anticipated debut and got a couple of chances to show his talents, including a header that cleared the bar. Perez was the only player to start both of the past two matches, an indication that McClaren will have the youngster's name on his team sheet more often than not this season. Newcastle has one more chance to get ready for their Week 1 match against Southampton when they take on Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday.

Welsh defender James Chester has moved to West Brom on a permanent deal after his Hull City side were relegated to the Championship.

Hull City had done a lot of buying for a club now located in the Championship. West Brom was looking very thin at all position groups with the season approaching rapidly. James Chester's move to the Hawthorns solves a problem for both with Hull City cutting the wage bill and gaining a fee for the player. Tony Pulis gets a starting center back for a formation that featured four center backs for much of his time at the club. Assuming Chester starts he is a great acquisition in almost all formats given Pulis' propensity to pile up clean sheets with a tough tackling defense.

Southampton added to their center back options by acquiring Steven Caulker from Queens Park Rangers on a season-long loan.

Once the Saints lost their rights to retain Toby Alderweireld, they looked destined to bring in another center back before the end of the summer window. The question was how prolific a player they would grab. Maya Yoshida looked to be the one to partner Jose Fonte had Southampton stuck with the current options, but Caulker will certainly present a challenge now for Yoshida. Caulker was once lauded as one of the better young English center backs but his reputation took a hit while playing for Rangers. Odds are Ronald Koeman will give the spot to Yoshida in Week 1 but despite the budget fantasy price, he cannot be trusted to hold the position long enough to warrant in investment.

Abou Diaby, who had been in serious talks with the Baggies about a move, has decided to head back to France to link up with Marseille on a free.

After an injury-riddled tenure at Arsenal, the one-time France international was something of a low-risk, big-reward play on the transfer market for second tier teams this summer. With West Brom the closest to making a deal in England, Abou Diaby decided he would head back to France instead. Tony Pulis is definitely in need of squad depth at all positions even after the acquisition of James Chester so losing out on Diaby, speculative thought the move might have been, is at least a minor blow.
