West Bromwich Albion did not have an answer to crack the Cardiff City defense and they were held without a goal for the second consecutive match in a 1-0 loss at Cardiff City Stadium.

The Baggies are edging closer to the relegation zone after back to back losses without a goal to Cardiff and Norwich City. Sessegnon has been ice cold over the past few games and his poor form has a tendency to reflect on his club's overall form. Right now they look in desperate need of a playmaker and can hopefully dip into the transfer market for at least an impact loanee, preferably as effective as Romelu Lukaku was for them last season. Steve Clarke needs to do something quick before they drop too many points to low table sides.

Leicester City booked their place in the Premier League Asia Trophy final with a penalty shootout win over West Brom at Hong Kong Stadium on Wednesday.

Despite falling behind just 10 minutes in following a thunderbolt strike by Jay Rodriguez, the Foxes managed to draw level shortly thereafter. The equalizer came 14 minutes later from Riyad Mahrez, who break through and slotted past Ben Foster to make it 1-1. Following wholesale changes the chances were few and far between, with the 1-1 finish pushing the fixture to a penalties. The key moment of the match came after Marc Albrighton converted his spot kick, when reserve goalkeeper Ben Hamer did well to deny Sam Field from 12 yards out. Hamer finished the match as the only Fox to play complete 90 minutes, while summer signings Harry Maguire and Vicente Iborra also saw action.

Everton confirm Ramiro Funes Mori will miss the majority of 2017/18 after suffering a setback in training.

The Times [UK] correspondent – Paul Joyce – revealed last week that Everton could be forced back into the transfer market after Funes Mori had more surgery in Barcelona to address continuing problems in his left knee. The defender originally damaged his meniscus while representing Argentina in a World Cup qualifying game back in March, but following a small medical procedure, he was expected to be ready for pre-season. However, in a statement by the club on Wednesday, they confirmed Funes Mori faces even more time out, although specific details have not been released: "[He] will require prolonged rehabilitation of a minimum of six to nine months." The setback leaves the Toffees a little short defensively, particularly on the left-hand side, and Koeman will want to address the issue ahead of the season opener [vs Stoke City] with no cover for Leighton Baines.

Liverpool officially confirmed the sale of midfielder Lucas Leiva in a £5 million move to Serie A side Lazio.

The 30-year-old was Liverpool's longest-serving player after arriving at the club in 2007, going on to make 346 appearances for the club. But the Brazilian has been linked with a move away over the past three transfer windows following Brendan Rodgers' departure, and Lazio has been interested from the start. Said Leiva: "Liverpool as a club and Liverpool as a city is a unique place. I think it's different from everywhere. The fans are a big part of the club, probably the most important part of the club, and without them Liverpool wouldn't be the same club I would say."

Southampton announced a new contract for goalkeeper Fraser Forster to tie him down until the summer of 2022.

Just last summer, Forster signed a new contract through the 2021 season, but the club decided to offer him another long-term deal. The 29-year-old has established himself as one of the most reliable keepers in the Premier League after playing every minute of every match last season. Said director of football Les Reed: "We are extremely pleased to have strengthened our commitment with Fraser, who has been an integral part of our team over the past three seasons. He has already established himself as one of the leading keepers in the Premier League and, at 29, we believe he still has his best years ahead of him, not just for us but also the national team."

West Ham United have been dealt an injury blow after midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate suffered a 'freak' knee injury that will force him to miss the start of the season.

The Senegal international suffered the injury during the club's pre-season training camp in Austria and, according to manager Slaven Bilic, will be out of action for around a month. Kouyate was a key man last season and will be greatly missed with the Hammers first three matches of the term all away fixtures, including the opener against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Speaking to Mirror Football on Kouyate's injury, Bilic said: "It is a big shame that Cheikhou got injured in one of our early training sessions and it was out of nothing. He did his knee and he is going to miss the first few games of the season. It was a freak injury and it is a blow for us. He doesn't need surgery and the injury is not a bad one, but he needs rehab now."

Leicester City has completed the signing of Hull City goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic for an undisclosed fee.

The 32-year-old has put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal with Leicester to become their third signing of the summer, following the arrival of his former Tiger team-mate Harry Maguire and Sevilla's Vicente Iborra. The experienced shot-stopper made a total of 55 appearances during his time at Hull, including 22 appearances in their relegation campaign last term. The former Switzerland international will serve as Kasper Schmeichel's backup next season. Speaking to LCFC TV, Jakupovic said: "I’m very happy and excited that the deal is finally done. I’m very excited to be a part of something special here and I can’t wait for the first game."

Ross Barkley will miss the start of the new Premier League season after going under the knife to remedy the groin injury which has hampered his pre-season progress.

The 23-year-old was not part of the squad which recently played in a sponsor's game in Tanzania while Ronald Koeman confirmed earlier this week that the Everton midfielder would remain at Finch Farm to undergo further treatment. The news prompted many to speculate whether Barkley, who has not signed an extension to his current deal, could be on the move with Tottenham being heavily linked to the England international. However, the club released a statement on Wednesday confirming Barkley has had a surgical procedure to correct the problem: "The surgery has been a success and he is expected to be able to return to play in approximately four weeks." All being well, Barkley should be available for the away trip to Manchester City in game week two or the match at Stamford Bridge five days later.

Chelsea have agreed terms with Real Madrid for the permanent transfer of striker Alvaro Morata, who must now agree personal terms and pass a medical to complete the move to Stamford Bridge.

Morata will become Chelsea's fourth major signing of the summer and likely replace Spain international team-mate Diego Costa, who has been pushing for a move away having been told he is not long in the club's plans. The 24-year-old scored 15 goals for Real last season as the Spanish giants won their second successive Champions League title. The 20-time capped Spain international is a versatile and well-rounded forward, with 11 goals in 38 Champions League appearances to his name. Though the fee has not been officially revealed, the deal is believed to be in the region of £60 million.

Arsenal drew 1-1 with Bayern Munich in regulation and won the tie 3-2 on penalties as they faced off with the Bundesliga champions in China in the International Champions Cup pre-season tournament.

Robert Lewandowski scored a 9th minute penalty as the German champions dominated the early going. They had a second goal wrongly ruled out due to an incorrect offside call. Arsenal generated some solid chances themselves with Mesut Ozil and new arrival Alexandre Lacazette both forcing good saves from reserve goalkeeper Tom Starke. Arsenal left it late to equalize as Alex Iwobi won the ball in midfield, sent an outlet to Aaron Ramsey and then hustled into the box to score Ramsey's cross in the 4th minute of stoppage time. Emiliano Martinez saved two Bayern penalty attempts and saw another miss the target as Arsenal won the penalty shootout 3-2.

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has officially moved to Juventus after two years on loan in Serie A at Roma.

Szczesny and Arsene Wenger seemed to have something of a falling out as the goalkeeper never really seemed to be considered as part of the future plan. This despite Petr Cech advancing in years and David Ospina never really convincing anyone he is a Premier League starter. Arsenal were happy to loan Szczesny out for the past two seasons to Roma and have now sold him permanently to Juventus, a club that knows a thing or two about goalkeeping talent. It seems possible that this will look like a bad move in the not too distant future.

Jurgen Klopp is backing Daniel Sturridge to hit the ground running in August following an impressive pre-season from the England international.

The Liverpool manager was speaking to reporters in Hong Kong ahead of their game against Crystal Palace on Wednesday: "It’s the best condition he has been in since I have been here," Klopp said. "It has been quite intense what we have done and he has pretty much been part of each session so that is good. He is in good physical shape." Sturridge has struggled for regular game-time in recent years due to a troublesome hip problem, but the 27-year-old now appears to be ready to stake his claim for a place in the starting XI. Klopp also confirmed Sadio Mane is nearing a return to full fitness: "The plan is he will come with us to Germany [next week] and trains completely normally with us when we are back in England."
