Yaya Toure will be "ok" for this weekend's match with Newcastle, easing fears after he was subbed at half time of Manchester City's cup clash with West Ham in midweek.

Pellegrini said Toure was "ok" but did also say that he was still experiencing some pain in his ankle so there is a risk he gets a rest or gets subbed early if he does start. Micah Richard and Jesus Navas are fit and also in the squad but Sergio Aguero, Stevan Jovetic and Jack Rodwell remain out, although Aguero could be back next week.

Hull City goalkeeper Allan McGregor is set to join Championship side Cardiff City on loan until the end of the season.

McGregor, 34, is currently viewed as third choice for the starting XI slot between the sticks at present, behind Jakupovic and Marshall. McGregor arrived at the club in 2013 for £1.5 million, and went on to make over 100 appearances for the Tigers. However, he lost his starting place in the team in May last season as Hull pushed for promotion to the Premier League after picking up a back injury which eventually required surgery and six months on the sidelines. Cardiff, managed by Neil Warnock, have only two clean sheets in 14 matches since October when Warnock took charge. The veteran manager said he expects to announce the signing of a PL goalkeeper on Thursday, which is widely believed to be Hull's Scotsman.

Eldin Jakupovic appears to be new Hull manager Marco Silva's first choice goalkeeper.

There was little surprise when Jakupovic was selected by Silva for his first two games in charge in cup games, first in the FA Cup against Swansea and days later against Manchester United in the League Cup semi-final. However, Jakupovic's start in the Premier League against Bournemouth last weekend signals that he is Silva's first choice 'keeper. Summer signing David Marshall has had a torrid time since he arrived at the club, failing to keep a single clean sheet in 21 appearances and conceding an average of 2.47 goals per game.

Sheffield United have signed Manchester United's young full-back Joe Riley on loan until the end of the season.

The Blades, who currently sit at the summit of the League One table, had been chasing the 20 year old for a number of weeks but were forced to patiently wait for him to recover from a hamstring problem before swooping in for the youngster. Riley made two appearances for United's senior team last season. He came on as a substitute in the FA Cup victory over Shrewsbury Town and started in the 5-1 victory over Midtjylland in the Europa League after Chris Smalling pulled up injured.

Southampton are rumoured to be tracking Borussia Monchengladbach's Julian Korb as a potential signing.

The 24 year old is primarily a right-back, who could act as able cover for Cedric as summer signing Pied has been ruled out for the season. His versatility will also appeal to Claude Puel, as he can play as a centre-back. Korb has not been essential for Borussia this term, only starting 12 matches. The Saints are also rumoured to face competition from West Ham to land the signature of the German.

Diego Costa rejoined training with Chelsea's first-team on Tuesday, Sky Sports reports.

Costa did not travel with the Chelsea squad for their 3-0 win over Leicester City last weekend, with a back injury listed as the official reason for his absence. While it was reported by several media outlets the omission was due to a spat during training over interest from China, worries seemed to be quelled by the striker's return to full training, after spending Sunday and Monday training by himself.

Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka says he was impressed by the glimpses of promise Rudy Gestede showed in his debut at Watford last Saturday.

After making his Premier League debut against Watford, introduced as a substitute with half an hour to play on Saturday, Karanka says Gestede will have a big role to play in Middlesbrough's campaign moving forward. Karanka said: "I said when we brought him here that he brings us something different...With him on the pitch, we have the kind of striker who you need sometimes to hold the ball, to create an impact on the pitch, score and defend from set pieces." Karanka added that Gestede will 'for sure' start games in the future, making the Beninese a forward to watch in fantasy over the new few weeks. Middlesbrough will close out the month of January with Premier League matches against West Ham (GW22) and West Brom (GW23), split by their fourth round FA Cup tie with Accrington Stanley on January 28th.

Valdes, who made his appearance in the weekly XI after Middlesbrough's 0-0 draw at Arsenal in October, recorded his fifth clean sheet of the season last Saturday.
