French defender Modibo Diakite has been sent on loan from Sunderland to Serie A side Fiorentina for the remainder of the season.

Diakite arrived to Sunderland in the summer from Lazio and made seven starts for the Black Cats, but is not a preferred center back when John O'Shea and Wes Brown are healthy, so this will be a welcome opportunity for Diakite to get more playing time. He will be entering an exciting situation where Fiorentina are battling for the final Champion's League spot in Serie A.

West Ham are reportedly interested in taking Chelsea winger Christian Atsu on loan as a boost to their attack.

With Joe Cole gone and West Ham struggling for goals last season, the Hammers have been making big improvements to their attack this summer and Atsu would be the icing on the cake. The young winger had a great World Cup and has been hyped up for the past few years as the future of Ghana. Chelsea have enough attacking midfielders on their books so they can afford to loan out Atsu if they think he'll benefit from the constant first team action. Jose Mourinho wants to use Atsu in pre-season matches before he decides whether to loan him out. Atsu's fantasy appeal would be exponentially higher at West Ham than at Chelsea due to playing time.

The inevitable has come to pass. Liverpool have officially announced the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona.

With Suarez out the door there is a massive gap in Liverpool's exceptional attack from last season. There is a rumor circulating that they will attempt to fill that gap with Karim Benzema. Not exactly a like for like change but certainly not a bad consolation prize if it happens.

Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri has signed a new five-year contract with the club.

Nasri had initially failed to shine at the Etihad and had a difficult second season under Roberto Mancini, but things improved in a big way during Manuel Pellegrini's first campaign in charge. The midfielder featured in 34 games, scoring 7 goals, and was a key member of the squad that sealed City their second Premier League title. The contract extension proves how settled the 27-year-old is feeling at the club and we can expect another big season from him as he looks to prove the French national bosses were wrong to exclude him from their World Cup squad.

Sky Sports are reporting that Marouane Chamakh will sign a new two-year deal with Crystal Palace.

Chamakh didn't score many goals for Palace last season, but his work rate under Tony Pulis was vital for the tactical system to work, and the club have been keen to extend the striker's contract before it ends on 31 July. The Moroccan has been linked with QPR and French side Bordeaux during the summer, but Sky Sports appear confident a deal with the Eagles has already been done and is due to be announced within the next 24 hours.

Jan Vertonghen's agent has revealed the defender could quit Tottenham this summer.

Barcelona are being linked to the 27-year-old defender, who impressed for Belgium during the run to the World Cup quarter finals. Vertonghen is one of Tottenham's most important players and his loss would be massive blow for new boss Mauricio Pochettino, but his body language towards the end of last season suggested he is becoming increasingly frustrated at White Hart Lane. This has been backed up by his agent, Mustapha Nakhli, who has refused to commit the player’s future to the club, citing the lack of Champions League football as a big problem.

As expected, Arsenal unveiled both their new Puma kits and highly anticipated new signing Alexis Sanchez at the Emirates today.

Let us count the ways that this improves the situation at the Emirates. First, he's a great player and a confirmation that Mesut Ozil wasn't a one-off top tier signing for Arsenal. Secondly, he fills multiple needs in his ability to play as a central forward instead of Olivier Giroud (offering a different set of issues for a defense) or as a compliment to Giroud in place of either Lukas Podolski (who hasn't been as effective as hoped) or Theo Walcott (who is frequently injured). Beyond his direct impact, Sanchez won't be going to Liverpool which hurts a rival. Finally, a bunch of money will be going to Barcelona that will, presumably, go to funding the purchase of Luis Suarez which further hurts one of Arsenal's rivals. Could it get any better for the Gunners? (OK, maybe if Mathieu Debuchy and Sami Khedira join Sanchez it gets better)

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has confirmed midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson's return to the club was discussed as part of a deal that could see defender Ben Davies go to Tottenham Hotspur.

Despite some good goals Sigurdsson has never settled at Spurs, finding the bloated midfield options difficult to navigate to allow him his fair share of first team football, and rumours of a move have grown stronger over the past 6 months. One would expect him to welcome a move back to Swansea - where he played the best football of his career - and this could help Spurs seal a deal for Ben Davies, who is reportedly Mauricio Pochettino's first choice to fill the left-back spot for the new season. However, a deal still sounds some way away, with swap deals notoriously complicated and with both clubs still haggling over the value of both players.

According to Sky Sports Sources, West Ham have made a £12m bid for striker Enner Valencia.

The Pachuca attacker had a great World Cup with Ecuador and can play as both a striker and a midfielder/winger. He can be a great fit in West Ham supporting Andy Carroll from the wing or from a slightly less advanced position. West Ham have made a series of moves this summer that are expected to boost their attack and this would be the cherry on top. If Valencia makes the move to London, we would expect the Hammers to be a firm candidate for a top 10 finish in the Premier League next season.

Serial biter Luis Suarez had his appeal of his four-month FIFA suspension rejected by the sport's governing body.

With the rest of the World Cup going on, it seems like an under-reported story that FIFA has ventured outside their usual jurisdiction to impose a worldwide ban on Luis Suarez for four months. The Uruguay and Liverpool forward appealed the suspension and that appeal has now been rejected. He still has the option to appeal to further to the Court of Arbitration for Sport who might, indeed, indicate that FIFA can only ban him from playing for Uruguay. Regardless, this turn of events likely has zero impact on Suarez's likely move to Barcelona that continues to rumble forward.

Tottenham have announced that Hugo Lloris has committed his future to the club with the signing of a new five-year contract.

This is excellent news for Spurs. Lloris has been a outstanding performer for the since joining in 2012 and after a terrific World Cup the club have moved quickly to secure his services for the foreseeable future. The 27-year-old had been vocal about his disappointment after Spurs missed out on Champions League football last season and had been linked to PSG this summer, but it seems Daniel Levy and new manager Mauricio Pochettino played a big part in the Frenchman choosing to remain at White Hart Lane. "I spoke with the Chairman and I know the Club is as ambitious as ever," said Lloris. "It’s very important to feel at home at a club and for my family to feel well. I enjoy a great relationship with the Club and the fans. The arrival of Mauricio Pochettino is important as well. I have a good feeling with him. He is also ambitious."

Emanuele Giaccherini's agent has stated his client wants to remain at Sunderland.

Giaccherini was Paolo Di Canio's biggest signing of last summer but the winger failed to settle in English football and ended up playing a bit-part role as new manager Gus Poyet orchestrated the great escape from relegation. The lack of game time meant the winger missed out on Italy's World Cup squad and many observers expected him to leave for Galatasaray, but his agent insists he wants to remain at Sunderland.
