Malky MacKay has managed Mike Williamson in the past and is reported to be interested in renewing the relationship as Cardiff begin life in the Premier League.

Williamson has seen his playing time at Newcastle decline in each of the past two seasons despite being in the presumed prime of his career going from 27 to 29 years old. While he has never been exceptional he would be a nice affordable signing for a newly promoted team hoping to stay up but not blow the budget in doing so.

West Ham midfielder Mark Noble is expected to be fit for GW18 after missing games through a calf problem.

Noble is averaging seven points per match and his injuries have prevented him from having another solid season. Noble might not even earn the start as West Ham have a number of players who are capable of filling in. He is not a great option in fantasy leagues right now but may be a solid bench stash in season-long leagues.

James Tomkins is dealing with a hamstring injury and will be assessed before West Ham's match against Chelsea on Friday.

Tomkins is doubtful for the contest and all signs point toward James Collins filling in for the center-back. West Ham have a very tough trip to Stamford Bridge and neither of their center-backs make for a very good option in fantasy leagues this weekend. If Tomkins continues to miss time, Collins could be an option in later weeks.

Eden Hazard is doubtful for Chelsea's match against West Ham United on Friday with a foot injury.

Hazard picked up a foot problem in Chelsea's 2-0 win over Stoke City and is currently being assessed before Friday's match against the Hammers. Mourinho has also said that no player is likely to play all three matches over this holiday period, so it sounds likely Hazard will be rested on Friday. With Oscar being rested last time out, one can expect him to start against West Ham and be a strong fantasy option.

Mario Balotelli is available to Brendan Rodgers as Liverpool travel to Burnley on Boxing Day, but the manager admits that the striker "may be ill-suited to the Reds’ high-intensity style."

Well it is nice to know that Rodgers is the final person on the planet to view the Balotelli transfer as an abject failure but the truth is, he was never a good fit to replace Luis Suarez considering they were letting go a world class player for his antics and replacing him with perhaps the world leader in antics. Bottom line, they need Daniel Sturridge in their XI week in, week out to compete on any level that even slightly resembles the club that nearly won the title last season. Balotelli may not get sold in January but it looks clear he won't be at Anfield by the end of summer 2015.
Dec 24 - 5:35 PM

Chelsea midfielder Oscar was rested in Monday's win over Stoke City and will be ready for the Friday showdown against West Ham United.

Oscar has had a strong season and with Eden Hazard struggling to be fit for Friday, Oscar seems more and more likely to make the starting XI. In a home match, Oscar makes for a good fantasy choice this weekend. Use him with confidence.

Leicester manager Nigel Pearson will not appeal his suspension for gameweek 18.

Pearson will serve his ban when Leicester host Tottenham on Boxing Day. He was found guilty for getting into a heated exchange with a fan during his club's 3-1 loss to Liverpool earlier this month. Leicester have been so bad that they can't really get any worse even with Pearson not on the sidelines so there aren't any big fantasy implications from his suspension.

Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic has big plans for the Blues this season, saying a quadruple is possible for this squad.

The 26-year-old has been a huge part of what Chelsea have done this season and deserves all the praise in the world. He has been solid defensively and has gone up in attack when needed. Despite the great contributions, he has only averaged five fantasy points per match, which makes him a poor choice for managers. His lack of attacking stats keep his value down, so enjoy watching him play and fade him in fantasy leagues.

Ronald Koeman has been impressed with youngster Harrison Reed's performance and has a tough decision to make ahead of Friday's match.

Reed started in Southampton's 3-0 beating of Everton and helped the team get their first win in six matches. The choice to start him last week was easy with Morgan Schneiderlin and Victor Wanyama suspended, but with the duo returning this week, Koeman has a decision to make. If Reed starts, he has a chance to be a good fantasy asset at just £ 5.58M. He had 13 tackles won against Everton and finished the day with 16 fantasy points. Expect something closer to 7-8 points if he gets the start on Friday.

Garry Monk has confirmed Gylfi Sigurdsson, Jefferson Montero and Leon Britton have been passed fit for the visit of Aston Villa on Boxing Day.

The trio were all rested as a precaution for the win at the KC Stadium on Saturday because of minor knocks - Leon Britton [knee], Jefferson Montero [hamstring] and Sigurdsson [foot] - but the Swansea manager has confirmed all three players returned to training on Monday ahead of GW18 and will come back into contention.
Dec 24 - 4:25 PM

Jose Fonte has been suspended for GW18 due to accumulation of yellow cards.

Fonte received his fifth booking of the season and invoked a one-match ban against Everton last weekend. He will now miss the match against Crystal Palace but will be available on Sunday when they face Chelsea. Maya Yoshida or Florin Gardon will most likely replace Fonte and will be good one-week fantasy options. The problem with using either one is not knowing whether they get the start ahead of time. Use them only in leagues where you can make changes up until kickoff.

Southampton have agreed with Werder Bremen to loan winger Ejero Elia in January with an option to buy in the summer.

Southampton lack depth in attack with Jay Rodriguez still recovering from a torn ACL and Sadio Mane will leave next month for the African Cup of Nations. Elia has played 27 times for the Netherlands and boasts some experience that will certainly help Southampton's young squad. Southampton generally play two wingers so playing time shouldn't be tough to come by for Elia, but we don't think he'll get consistent enough minutes to be a great fantasy option.
