Julian Draxler is a highly rated German midfielder who can potentially replace Frank Lampard in the future, so it would be nice to learn from the man himself. His a £38m release clause is a big obstacle, but he is only 19 years old and would be a long term investment for Chelsea.

Crystal Palace head into a hectic fixture period without the services of Mamadou Sakho who is expected to be sidelined for weeks rather days.

The Eagles centre-back lasted less than half an hour on Saturday as Christian Benteke failed to convert a last-minute penalty allowing Swansea, winners over West Brom, to leapfrog them. Despite improved performances of late, Roy Hodgson’s men sit bottom of the Premier League table, and with five matches between now and December 31st, the loss of the influential defender will be the cause of great concern. "I would guess [that it's a serious one]," Hodgson said after the game. "Calf strains or pulls are normally a question of weeks rather than days. He'll be assessed tomorrow. I couldn't possibly give you a timescale." His absence should at least afford Scott Dann an opportunity to return to the starting line-up following his goal on Saturday. The 30-year-old has been struggling for form recently, but having recovered from injury and illness, Dann is expected to return alongside James Tomkins.

Aaron Ramsey looks set for another spell on the sidelines after limping through the final minutes of Sunday's game at St Mary’s due to a hamstring injury.

Olivier Giroud grabbed a last-gasp point for the Gunners who trailed to a 3rd minute Charlie Austin strike. However, Arsène Wenger believes it could’ve been more with eleven players pushing for the win following an injury to Ramsey. "He has a hamstring problem," Wenger told Arsenal.com. "In the last 10 or 12 minutes if we had him fully fit it would have helped. That’s why it’s sometimes a big gamble when you [make substitutions] early." Even though initial reports suggest the problem is only minor, with such a quick turnaround between matches [Arsenal travel to West Ham on Wednesday], the Wales international is likely to miss out. Wenger has a number of potential replacements at his disposal, but the general consensus, from supporters, is that Jack Wilshere should be given his chance after impressing in the Europa League and Carabao Cup this season.

Manchester City took a major step towards its first title under Pep Guardiola with a 2-1 win at Manchester United on Sunday evening.

The Sky Blues now go 11 points over their hated rivals with the win at Old Trafford, setting an English top-flight record with their 14th straight victory this season. The bulk of the action was bundled together at the end of the first half as David Silva opened the scoring in the 43rd minute. The City captain latched onto Romelu Lukaku's errant header following a corner kick and sent it past David De Gea for the opening goal. A defensive miscue from Fabian Delph that led to Marcus Rashford's equalizer just four minutes later, but City took advantage of another Lukaku error off another set piece, pouncing on a bad clearance and finishing in the 54th minute. In team news, Vincent Kompany left at half-time, reportedly due to a flare up of his recent injury, while Sergio Aguero was left on the bench in favor of Gabriel Jesus.

The spotlight at the Theatre of Dreams was on Romelu Lukaku on Sunday—not for his prowess but for his shortcomings.

On a snowy evening at Old Trafford, Lukaku was to blame for both of Manchester City's goals in the Red Devils' 2-1 loss to their rivals, who are now 11 points clear at the top of the table. In the 43rd minute, Lukaku headed a Man City corner back in toward the center of the box, where David Silva poked it into the back of the net. Marcus Rashford answered back nicely for United just four minutes later, beating Fabian Delph down the right and coolly slotting his chance past Ederson. But in the 54th minute, Lukaku had trouble with another set piece, clearing a cross straight into the back of Chris Smalling as the ball bounced to Nicolas Otamendi in front of goal as a helpless David De Gea watched the match winner wizz past. Lukaku had a great chance in the 85th minute to equalize, but his shot from the six-yard box was deftly saved by Ederson—his face, to be exact—before Juan Mata saw his follow-up turned aside as well.

Liverpool were the stronger side on a snowy day at Anfield, but Everton made the most of one moment in the match, as Wayne Rooney scored from the spot to end the Merseyside derby at 1-1.

Wayne Rooney has had his share of derby moments, the bicycle kick a few years back against Manchester City easily comes to mind, so he was certainly up for his first Merseyside derby in thirteen years. Frankly, there was nothing happening for the Toffees. By halftime, they had given a goal away and Jordan Pickford led the team in passes completed. It continued to be all Liverpool until the 76th minute. Rooney sent a high lob pass perfectly into the pat of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and the latter was brought down in the box. Rooney stepped up to take the penalty and converted in vintage style. The defense, vastly improved under Sam Allardyce hung on until the final whistle to earn the point.

Mo Salah regained the lead in the race for the Golden Boot with his thirteenth of the season, but Liverpool failed to put Everton away and a foolish foul by Dejan Lovren allowed Everton to squeak a 1-1 draw with their next-door neighbors.

Entering off the high of a seven-goal explosion in Champions League during midweek, Jurgen Klopp rang in the changes, turning some heads by leaving Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino on the bench for the big derby. The heavy rotation appeared to have little negative effect, as the Reds were in control from the get-go, dominating possession and spending the majority of the time in the Toffee's final third. They couldn't break through until just before halftime, but Salah did it in phenomenal style. After receiving a pass from Joe Gomez, he spun around one defender, shrugged off another and curled a perfect short around a third to grab the lead. Sadio Mane was behind the defense with teammates to pick out moments later, but took the shot and dragged it wide. That miss came back to haunt Liverpool, as they failed to get that second goal to put the game to bed and Lovren's foul in the Reds' box gave Everton the chance to equalize and they did.

Olivier Giroud scored in the 88th minute as a substitute to allow Arsenal to salvage a draw on the south coast.

It was another slow start, including an 3rd minute Charlie Austin goal, followed by long stretches of sterile domination. With Arsenal dominating possession it was a match crying out for Giroud's aerial presence. The France international delivered late and the Gunners at least claimed a point away at Southampton.

Newcastle spurned an early lead to eventually lose 3-2 to Leicester in an entertaining clash at St. James's Park.

After just six minutes the Magpies were in front after Joselu finished from close range. However the Foxes were back on level terms 14 minutes later as Riyad Mahrez continued his new hair football revival with a superb effort from outside the box. Young Demerai Gray then put Leicester in front with a shot that deflected past Darlow before Dwight Gayle levelled proceedings again. Ayoze Perez was the unfortunate scorer of an OG while attempting to stop Shinji Okazaki in the final minutes of normal time, sealing another win for Claude Puel's men. The manager has had a lot of success since taking charge and has deployed the attacking trio of Mahrez, Vardy, and Gray to fantastic effect. Rafa Benitez on the other hand is coming under increasing pressure after three consecutive league defeats.

Marko Arnautovic scored an early goal and the defense was poised as West Ham United edged Chelsea, 1-0, for three massive points.

By far, the best day of the season for the Hammers. They got exactly what they needed, which was an early advantage, coming in the sixth minute, On the break, Arnautovic played a 1-2 with Manuel Lazini and the former slipped into the box to slot home. Chelsea dominated the stat sheet, but an organized defense combined with poor finishing from the Blues left Adrian virtually untested. With the momentum of the crowd, the Hammers were able to let the lone goal stand and grab the points. The win still leaves them on the wrong side of the relegation zone, but today's result certainly shed a positive light on the rest of their season.

Chelsea failed to close the gap on Manchester City as they failed to find a finishing touch in a 1-0 loss to West Ham United.

Perhaps suffering from Champions League hangover, Chelsea's found themselves behind the eight ball early, conceding to the Hammers inside of six minutes. From then on, the Blues enjoyed a near 2 to 1 possession advantage and attempted 20 shots to West Ham's five. The problem: poor finishing from the likes of Alvaro Morata and Eden Hazard. Both had some good looks but couldn't get the shot on target. So, despite a flurry of activity in the final third, West Ham's Adrian only had to stop two shots. It was a miserable fantasy day all around for a Chelsea side that was heavily favored, with Marcos Alonso's yellow card and substitution before the hour mark the most frustrating. The Blues will look to bounce back with a trip to Huddersfield Town Tuesday night. Considering Morata played the full 90 minutes, he is at risk of being rested for that one.
