Manchester City kept up the pressure on title rivals Chelsea as they beat Stoke 1-0.

Yaya Toure scored the solitary goal of the game with 20 minutes remaining, steering in an Aleksandar Kolarov cross. Up to that point Manchester City has struggled to break Stoke down and could've been behind had Charlie Adam's effort beaten Joe Hart. City stay three points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea, while Stoke remain just three points off the relegation zone.

West Ham United have approached Swansea City about the possible sale of Andre Ayew.

The report of this transfer rumor goes on to say that an actual bid has not been submitted for the Ghanaian forward, only an enquiry as to Swansea's stance on the possibility of selling him. The Swans say they need to sign two forwards this summer before they can entertain the thought. Swansea really need to be careful here. The way the squad is looking right now, a quality striker, i.e., an upgrade from what they had to work with last season, may be difficult to attract. Putting Ayew potentially on the market rather than firmly saying he is not for sale only makes the club look less attractive, as he is one of only a couple of star players. The club's undergone a transition in ownership and it may be costing them this season if they don't start addressing some needs.

Mauricio Pochettino stated that he has no intention of signing a new center back ahead of the coming season for Tottenham.

Pochettino went on to mention that he believes there is enough talent in the youth system to fill in behind likely starters Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld and the very serviceable backup Kevin Wimmer. Those academy options, which include Cameron Carter-Vickers, Dominic Ball and Anton Walkes, have all had a chance to show what they can do in Tottenham's recent 2-match tour in Australia. Ball and Carter-Vickers looked pretty unorganzied against Juventus in the first game but the latter looked better along with Walkes against Atletico Madrid. Speaking of Vertonghen, his ankle recovery is progressing well and Pochettino thinks the Belgian has a chance to be ready for Week 1.

Swansea City have sent striker Bafetimbi Gomis to Ligue 1 side Olympic Marseille on a season-long loan.

Gomis had a strong start last season, scoring in each of his first four games. Both he and the club took an absolute nosedive after that point, as the Frenchman would score only twice more for the remainder of the campaign while the club would garner just one win, eight losses and three draws over their next twelve matches. Now he heads back to his old stomping grounds of Ligue 1 in the hopes of finding his form again. The Swans have now sent away Alberto Paloschi, Eder and Gomis without finding a striker to replace any of them with the new season only a fortnight away. Even Andre Ayew, who played up top on occasion last season, is rumored to be wanting out, so the time is now for the Jacks to get a couple of decent strikers in their squad or they could be threatening relegation come next May.

Alan Pardew could be forced into stepping up his search for a new striker after Fraizer Campbell limped out of the friendly win over AFC Wimbledon with a suspected hamstring strain.

Palace are short on numbers in attack after Emmanuel Adebayor and Marouane Chamakh were released at the beginning of the summer. Also, factor the loss of Dwight Gayle, who moved to Newcastle for £10m and Pardew has been left with only one fully fit striker – Connor Wickham – with a Premier League start to his name. The full extent of Campbell’s injury is not yet known, but with a little over two weeks until the season opener against West Brom, the search for a new striker looks set to intensify. Palace have been linked with Christian Benteke, while they continue to monitor the situation with Saido Berahino very closely.

Injuries continue to mount for West Ham after summer signing Gokhan Tore suffered a knee injury in training on Monday.

The Turkish winger, who joined as part of a season long loan deal, missed the Europa League loss to Slovenian side Domzale on Thursday due to injury. Speaking after the match, assistant manager Nikola Jurcevic told the club website that the Besiktas player requires a scan to determine the extent of his problem: "Tore has hurt his knee, but we are not sure how serious. It was a very easy training, but after five minutes he felt some pain in his knee. He will have a scan on Friday and we hope it will not be serious." With Manuel Lanzini and Aaron Cresswell both sidelined and ruled out "for a long time," the Hammers could look to bolster their squad with a little over two-weeks until the start of the new Premier League campaign.

Leicester city has officially announced the signing of left-back Ben Chilwell to a new five-year contract through 2021.

The 19-year-old was expected to go to Liverpool this summer after the club made multiple bids, including a deal potentially woth £7 million after add-ons. Arsenal was also linked with a move for the left-back but Chilwell opted to fight for a first-team spot with the Premier League champions despite not seeing much time last season. Said manager Claudio Ranieri: It’s fantastic news for us. Ben is a player with a big future and I am very happy that future will be with Leicester City. Ever since I arrived in Leicester, Ben has been a young player that has shown a lot of promise. He has all the attributes you would want in a defender and shows a lot of maturity for a player of just 19."

Watford has confirmed the sale of both defender Daniel Pudil and winger Almen Abdi to Sheffield Wednesday.

The move makes sense for Pudil after the Czech Republic international spent much of last season on loan at the Championship side. The center-back made 108 appearances in all competitions during his time at Vicarage Road before last year's loan. But Abdi leaves the club after scoring 25 goals in 130 appearances in all competitions over the course of four years. Last season the Swiss international was a regular starter in the Premier League but looks to have fallen out of favor under new coach Walter Mazzarri.

Sunderland made it four wins on the spin against Dijon on Wednesday, but the victory came at a cost after a muscular problem forced Patrick van Aanholt off early in the second half.

Robbie Stockdale confirmed van Aanholt "felt some groin tightness" although based on initial reports, his withdrawal appears to be precautionary: "There is absolutely no major issues," revealed the first team coach. "Whether we risk him on Saturday will depend on how he settles down over the next couple of days." Jermain Defoe is certain to miss out though, with the striker a doubt for the remainder of the preseason programme after suffering a thigh strain in training. However, and despite ongoing tests, the club remain confident he will be ready to face Manchester City in game week one. "At the moment it’s probably too early to say and we don’t think it’s anything serious, but obviously with a player like Jermain you don’t to take any risks."

Gary Cahill grabbed the only goal in a hard fought International Champions Cup game in Pasadena as Chelsea beat Liverpool 1-0 at the Rose Bowl.

However, speaking post-match, Jürgen Klopp revealed his "biggest problem" was the loss of young Serbian midfielder Marko Grujic following a sickening clash of heads with Chelsea’s Bertrand Traore. "He is in hospital, because he can't remember anything. That's not too cool. Hopefully it's not too serious but of course a young boy in this situation is not too cool." Daniel Sturridge missed the defeat, instead, club physios decided to provide additional fitness work at the clubs’ training camp in Palo Alto while Nathaniel Clyne was not risked because of a minor hamstring problem. Both players could face Milan on Sunday but Belgium international strikers Divock Origi and Christian Benteke are not yet ready following their summer exertions at Euro 2016.

After a few actions by Mamadou Sakho that Jurgen Klopp deemed to show a "lack of respect", the Liverpool manager sent the defender home early from the club's preseason tour of the United States.

It has been a series of unfortunate events for Sakho in recent months, but while he was cleared from a doping violation and cannot be blamed for injuring his heel, there is no one to fault but the Frenchman for his behavior since the club embarked on their preseason tour. First, he missed the flight to the US, then he was AWOL from a training session and then was late for a meal with his teammates. Klopp was quoted as saying that the situation was "not that serious" and that he hasn't given up on Sakho. However, one has to think this only takes a serious hit to his status in the center back depth chart. Had the summer been free of incident, despite the additions of Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan, Sakho looked poised to be the Week 1 starter in partnership with Dejan Lovren. Now, it could easily be one of Matip or Klavan to take the spot away.

Bournemouth has completed the signing of yet another Liverpool player this summer in defender Brad Smith.

The 22-year-old left-back joins the Cherries on a four-year contract in a move reported to be in the £6 million range. The Australian international had one year left on his contract but had previously fallen out of favor at the club following the appointment of Jurgen Klopp. Smith follows fellow academy product Jordon Ibe to to south coast after the winger competed a £15 million move. Said chief executive Neill Blake said, "I am delighted to confirm that we have completed a deal to bring Brad to the football club. "Brad broke through at Anfield last season and impressed whenever he was called upon."
