Cardiff City boosted their hopes of Premier League survival with a 3-1 victory over Fulham.

A massive day for fantasy managers who picked Steven Caulker, as he grabbed the opener right on the stroke of half-time. Lewis Holtby equalised just before the hour, but Caulker's second goal and Sascha Riether's own goal secured the Welsh side a huge three points and leaves them just goal difference away from getting out of the relegation zone. Fulham stay rooted to the bottom of the table, four points off saftey, and look to be in serious trouble.

Pedro Obiang was rested for Tuesday's 3-0 Carabao Cup win over Bolton but won't be available for Saturday's Premier League clash against Tottenham.

Manager Slaven Bilic revealed in his pre-match press conference that Obiang picked up an injury at West Brom last weekend and won't be fit to face Spurs. However, Bilic insisted that the Spanish midfielder's injury wasn't serious and added he could be back in contention for the game against Swansea City next Saturday. The absence of Obiang should see Cheikhou Kouyate and skipper Mark Noble, who made his return from a knee knock in the midweek cup win, resume their partnership in central midfield for the crucial clash at the London Stadium. Meanwhile, Saturday will come too soon for the return of James Collins (ankle) and Manuel Lanzini (hamstring).

Chelsea have announced they have agreed terms with Atletico Madrid for the transfer of Diego Costa, who will complete the move in January when the La Liga club's transfer ban comes to an end.

The 28-year-old has finally gotten his move back to Atletico, where he spent four years before joining Chelsea in July 2014 after Chelsea activated his £32m buy-out clause. The Spain international scored 58 goals in 120 appearances during his stay at Stamford Bridge and played a integral role in two Premier League titles. But despite scoring 20 goals in 35 league appearances last season as Chelsea cruised to the Premier League title, Costa was deemed expendable by manager Antonio Conte in the summer following multiple spats during the campaign. A statement on Chelsea's website said: "Chelsea Football Club has today agreed terms with Atletico Madrid for the transfer of Diego Costa. The transfer will be subject to the agreement of personal terms and a medical."

Calum Chambers came off at halftime of Arsenal's Carabao Cup win over Doncaster Rovers with a recurrence of his hip injury. Arsene Wenger indicated that he would be out through the October international break.

Chambers was just breaking back into the line-up after sitting out the early season with a hip issue as well as associated fitness issues associated with the hip injury. Chambers looked solid against lower division opposition in the first half yesterday but will apparently have to wait until mid-October to continue his quest to reestablish himself in the first team where a center back role seems to be available next to Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi.

Mesut Ozil was not used in either of Arsenal's past two matches due to a "minor knee inflammation" and Arsene Wenger moved to affirm his status as healthy and available for training and the West Brom match at the weekend.

Mesut Ozil has long been a polarizing figure at Arsenal. Two seasons ago his seeming lack of effort and grit were balanced by a near-record assist-making pace. Last season his production was down significantly but the effort/body language were no better leading many to call for a sale/replacement. This season has started even more poorly for the German international with things getting bad enough that Arsene Wenger hold out his most creative player with a "minor knee inflammation" for the club's match against defending champions Chelsea. It seems like something that most players would have fought through. It sounds like Ozil should be back for West Brom on Monday but there is at least a slight doubt that lingers.

Marcus Rashford (2), Jesse Lingard, and Anthony Martial all got their names on the scoresheet as Manchester United eased past Burton Albion in the Carabao Cup 3rd Round.

Only Rashford and Juan Mata remained from the team which started against Everton on Saturday, with Romero and Carrick making their season bows. Rashford put United ahead after Carrick's driven pass along the floor was spun into the path of Rashford by Jesse Lingard. The young England international provided a composed chipped finish to beat Ripley. He had his brace before the 20th minute, utilising the momentum created by spinning his marker to drive a shot in from 20 yards. United's third followed soon after on 36' when Lingard's heavily deflected effort found its way into the Burton net. Luke Shaw made his first appearance of the season off the bench in the second-half and he showed plenty of attacking intent. As did Anthony Martial who had been a thorn in Burton's side all evening. The Frenchman took his goal well in the second half but could have had three. Burton got a late consolation in injury time thanks to sub GK Pereira dropping the ball.

Burnley have signed free agent goalkeeper Anders Lindergaard to a contract that will last until the end of this season.

Lindegaard was once a part of the final seasons at Manchester United with Sir Alex Ferguson in charge, but since has been fading farther and farther away from top flight action. He joined West Brom in 2015 but was loaned out to Preston North End, where he last saw action. Nick Pope has done an adequate job thus far in place of the injured Tom Heaton, so one would assume Pope will have to have a bad game for Lindegaard to get a shot at run in the side. He is not worth a roster spot in any fantasy format at this point, even owners of Heaton in draft leagues.

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan sustained yet another knee injury in Wednesday's League Cup win.

The German international crumpled to the ground after a tackle from Claudio Yacob in the 58th minute of a 2-1 win. It was Gundogan's first start since last December, when he suffered a torn ACL, after he returned to action over the weekend against Watford. "(Gundogan) has a small issue with his knee but not like before and I don’t think it will be anything serious," Guardiola told the media after the match.

Eden Hazard made his first start of the season in the club's 5-1 win in the League Cup against Nottingham Forest.

The Belgian midfielder sustained an ankle injury in June while on international duty, causing him to miss three months before returning earlier this month. However, manager Antonio Conte wanted to ease Hazard back into the starting XI, which he finally did as he completed the full match Wednesday. The winger recorded two assists for the Blues, helping MIchy Batshuayi secure a hat-trick in the process. Said Conte: "I hope to be with him at the final step from his injury. In my [playing] career I was injured a lot and I have a bit of experience. With him, we are managing the situation well...Eden is a top player, and he improved a lot. He can continue to improve in his career and become one of the best."

Bournemouth overcame Brighton for the second time in seven days in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening after extra time.

Both managers made extensive changes to their sides for the game, with just Liam Rosenior, Ryan Fraser, and Simon Francis surviving from the starting eleven's of their respective sides from the previous clash on Friday. Steve Cook and Junior Stanislas returned from injuries for the Cherries. Izquierdo hinted at his ability early in the encounter, forcing Boruc into a save whilst Lys Mousset and Jordan Ibe kept Brigton 'keeper Tim Krul's hands warm. The Cherries had the bulk of the second half chances too, with Stanislas missing on a number of occasions. Jamie Murphy was put through by a stray back-pass from Steve Cook but Boruc stopped his attempt. King took his goal well, beating a few defenders before placing the ball in the corner beyond Krul. Brighton offered little in ET with Bournemouth continuing to pepper Brighton's goal to no avail.

Brighton may have been defeated 1-0 after extra-time in the Carabao Cup third round but Chris Hughton was happy with his side's performance.

Only Liam Rosenior remained from the Brighton side which faced the same opposition in the league on Friday, with Tim Krul starting between the sticks behind a three man defence. "I'm delighted with the performance, not the result, because it's a competition we wanted to go through in," said the Seagulls' manager. Hughton started two novice Irishmen in midfield, Jayson Molumby and Dessie Hutchinson, whilst new arrivals Jose Izquierdo and Ezequiel Schelotto played 90 minutes each. Hughton also explained that he tried a 3-4-3 to counteract Eddie Howe's men seizing control of possession for long periods, even though they had little time to practice it.

Less than 24 hours after making his debut for the club in the Carabao Cup, Tim Krul has signed for Brighton permanently from Newcastle.

Krul had been at Newcastle since 2005 when he first arrived on English shores from the Dutch league, however a series of injuries which began whilst on international duty for the Netherlands in October 2015 saw him fall out of favour on Tyneside with Rafa Benitez. Krul was tested on numerous occasions by Bournemouth in his bow for the Seagulls, doing well to keep the scoreline to 1-0. He is currently behind Maty Ryan in the pecking order though he can realistically hope to break into the side as the season progresses. Krul has been at Brighton a few weeks, having originally signed for a season-long loan. He has signed a one-year contract after making the move permanent.
