Steven Fletcher will be missing for Sunderland this weekend due to injury.

Fletcher was hurt in Sunderland's match with Crystal Palace in Week 30 and the tweet from a local journalist suggests he is still being assessed, with the full extent of the injury not expected to be determined until next week. Jozy Altidore will likely start the game at Norwich, although he's in no sort of form so should not be considered for your fantasy team, despite the fact the Black Cats play twice in Week 31.

Reports in the media are strongly linking Manchester United with a move for Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann in the summer.

Diego Simeone has said in the media that he wouldn't "tie anyone down" to Atleti, while Griezmann has previously expressed his desire to play alongside United's Paul Pogba some day. The French striker is seen as out of reach in the current January window for the Old Trafford hierarchy. What is expressly clear is that Atletico are aware they have a struggle on their hands to retain the 25 year old's services while United will need to replace the ageing Ibrahimovic and declining Wayne Rooney.

Everton manager Ronald Koeman confirmed that goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg has made a full return from injury.

The Dutch goalkeeper has missed the last month due to a dead leg following a collision with a teammate in the Merseyside derby in December. In his absence, Joel Robles has impressed mightily in five appearances with three clean sheets in the last four Premier League matches. With two experienced keepers, Koeman said he is not sure who to start this weekend against Crystal Palace: "He [Stekelenburg] is fully fit. I don’t [want to] say anything about this because last week Maarten Stekelenburg was still not 100-per-cent fit to start the game. Yes, he is now 100 per cent but that’s a decision we need to make."

West Ham fans will be relieved to hear the knock that Andy Carroll sustained this week was only whiplash.

Premier League fans may have been subject of whiplash themselves this week while doing a double take to see Carroll's scissor-kick goal against Crystal Palace. West Ham manager Slaven Bilic said the former Liverpool man suffered the injury later on in the match, but has trained as is expected to be available to face Middlesbrough: "Andy has got a bit of a whiplash injury...He has a sore neck so hopefully he’s going to be OK. It was at the end of the game [and not when he scored his scissor kick goal]. He trained on Tuesday and was brilliant in training, but then he reported some neck pain, but hopefully he’s going to be OK."

Rumours which had garnered a lot of press linking Bournemouth's Max Gradel with a move to Watford appear to have been unfounded.

Gradel has struggled to get game time this season, with just five appearances for Eddie Howe's men. Last season, he was viewed as a key man before suffering a long term injury setback. Gradel joined the club for the second time in 2015 and penned a 4 year contract last July. He is currently at the AFCON representing the Ivory Coast. Reports in the media have noted interest from a host of other clubs in Gradel's services, whether anything transpires from these remains to be seen.

Hull City are reportedly in line to fill the vacant right-back slot in their team after Ahmed Elmohamady left for the AFCON.

The player set to arrive on loan is Olympiakos right-back Omar Elabdellaoui. The deal is structured with a view to the loan until the season's end becoming permanent. Reports suggest that the agreement will be concluded in time for the Norwegian international to take to the field against Premier League leaders Chelsea on Sunday. Elabdellaoui played in England for Man City previously, who he joined as a 16 year old. He was given a squad number and hyped to have a "big future", however he never featured for the first team. He will displace Maguire and Meyler, who have stood in at right-back in the absence of a natural in the position. Fantasy managers should not expect much in terms of goals from the 25 year old.

SkySports is reporting that West Brom are in talks to sign slumping Watford forward Odion Ighalo.

Perhaps this is the first domino to fall that will eventually result in the long-awaited departure of Saido Berahino. Buying low on a hot and cold player like Ighalo makes a lot of sense for a club like West Brom. They couldn't have afforded him last season when he was scoring for fun from August through December. Now, Watford are likely looking to do anything they can to move on. Even if he isn't a full-time starter, Ighalo could be a valuable reserve who carries Albion for weeks or months at a time when he is in good form.

Arsenal have activated a clause in Per Mertesacker's contract that will tie him to the club for an additional season.

The extension of Mertesacker's contract will see the World Cup winner remain at the club, presumably as a reserve center back and mentor to rising players like Calum Chambers and Rob Holding, through the summer of 2018. Beyond that point, the Gunners will likely have decided if Chambers and/or Holding are good enough to play at the club. If they are, then the club should be set at center back for the foreseeable future. If not, they will have Mertesacker's salary coming off the books to help pay for a replacement.

Kieran Gibbs has been training with the Arsenal squad and will be available to Arsene Wenger in Week 22 for the visit of Burnley.

Before his knee injury, Kieran Gibbs was seeing a rise in his playing time. Between the middling form of Nacho Monreal and the need to rotate players through the holiday fixture congestion, Gibbs was playing regularly and playing well. A familiar issue, a minor injury, disrupted his run of matches. Gibbs has recovered from the injury but it seems likely that Monreal will get the start this weekend with Gibbs resuming his reserve role.

Ronald Koeman confirms goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg has fully recovered from his recent injury but there is a slight doubt over Leighton Baines heading into game week 22.

Stekelenburg suffered a dead leg in the Merseyside derby and spent almost a month on the sidelines before returning to the bench last weekend. The 34-year-old is "100 percent fit to start" but following the 4-0 battering of Man City at Goodison six days ago, it is possible that Koeman could name an unchanged side with Joel Robles continuing between the sticks. Leighton Baines "is struggling a little bit with his rib but normally he would be available," Koeman said. "Otherwise we are the same as last week. The long-term injuries are to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Mo Besic and Yannick Bolasie."

Francis Coquelin has rejoined training and is available for Arsene Wenger to either start or bring in as a substitute this weekend.

With Granit Xhaka's form and discipline still requiring work, Mohamed Elneny away at the African Cup of Nations, and Santi Cazorla still out injured the return of Francis Coquelin to health is a welcome event at the Emirates. Wenger may or may not opt to start Coquelin so soon after he returned to training but the option to bring him in as a substitute if/once Xhaka picks up his first yellow card is a valuable option.
Jan 19 - 10:22 AM

With Theo Walcott still out injured, Olivier Giroud's ability to shake off a minor complaint to make himself available for the weekend.

It is likely that Arsene Wenger would like to return to having Olivier Giroud available off the bench as one of the best "Plan B" options in the Premier League. That won't really be possible until Theo Walcott, the only wide player who was regularly productive with Alexis playing centrally, returns to the line-up. The next best option for Wenger will be continuing to play Giroud through the middle with Alexis in a wide supporting role. Expect that alignment with one of Alex Iwobi, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain or Danny Welbeck playing the other wide role opposite Sanchez.
