Napoli have reportedly rejected Chelsea's £44.2m offer for Edinson Cavani.

Cavani is turning out to be a very expensive striker, and Chelsea are expected to not bid any higher. Mourinho probably thinks the price is too high for the Uruguayan striker and it seems unlikely Cavani will be in London next season. It's possible to see Torres or Demba Ba stay at Stamford Bridge.

Former Manchester United forward may not be fit to face his former team on Saturday after being substituted against Scotland on Tuesday.

Danny Welbeck was substituted off in the 66th minute against Scotland with stiffness in his hamstring. His status for Saturday against Manchester United is not yet clear. With Olivier Giroud potentially available, Arsene Wenger will have to decide which forward is closer to full fitness as he selects his starting eleven against their old nemesis. Both clubs will be without key players due to injury with Daley Blind, Michael Carrick, and Mesut Ozil definitely out and a raft of others questionable including Welbeck, Luke Shaw, Falcao and just about everyone in United's defense.

Arsene Wenger has indicated that Olivier Giroud will be available this weekend against Manchester United, three to four weeks ahead of schedule.

The France international has been out for three months with a fractured leg suffered scoring the tying goal against Everton early in the season. His manager indicated that he will be available for the match this weekend but did not indicate whether Giroud would be ready to start or not. It seems most likely that Giroud will take a place on the bench and come in as a late-match substitute this week before contending for a starting spot in the weeks to come.

Arsenal holding midfielder Mikel Arteta will be available for the Week 12 match-up with Manchester United according to Arsene Wenger.

There is "available" and there is available and it isn't clear exactly what Wenger meant when he said that the Spaniard would be available this weekend. Arteta has returned to training and could play a part but the equivocating words used by Wenger doesn't give a great deal of confidence that the player is ready to start against the Red Devils. The next question assuming that Arteta might be available is whether that's a good thing given the mediocre play that Arsenal have gotten from he and Flamini in that spot this season. Wenger might be better served if circumstances forced him to start Jack Wilshere in that spot after a solid outing against Scotland on Tuesday.

Arsene Wenger indicated today that Laurent Koscielny and Mathieu Debuchy are about three weeks away from full group training.

With the jam-packed holiday period getting ready to start, Koscielny and Debuchy can't return soon enough for Arsenal. The frailties of Nacho Monreal deputizing as a center back and Calum Chambers doing the same at right back were pointed out in the club's come-from-ahead 2-1 loss to Swansea in Week 11. If Arsenal are to mount a significant challenge for a top four spot and get past the group stage of the Champions League then their first choice defenders are likely going to have to return to full match readiness before the fixture list starts to get bogged down in December. The schedule Wenger laid out indicates that this is possible but only just. Any setbacks will mean Arsenal playing a series of league matches with less than a full strength defense.

England manager Roy Hodgson gave Manchester United fans hope that full-back Luke Shaw will be available to face Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday by confirming his withdrawal against Scotland on Tuesday was precautionary.

Shaw appeared to be in some discomfort following a heavy first half challenge but following his on-pitch assessment the United defender was able to play-on. Discussions continued through half-time and Shaw was able to play 66 minutes before he was replaced by Kieron Gibbs. Post-match Hodgson did confirm he was replaced – along with Danny Welbeck – to protect the player ahead of this weekend although what will concern supporters is that the "muscular tightness" was affecting the same hamstring which hampered his pre-season training. Luke Shaw will be assessed further at Carrington over the next 24/48 hours.

Louis van Gaal will be hoping the next few days prove to be very kind following the news that two more Manchester United players were added to their current injury list. Angel di Maria and Luke Shaw become the latest casualties joining Danny Blind, David de Gea and Michael Carrick as those picking up problems while with their national team.

Angel di Maria was on the receiving end of a rash Nani challenge when Argentina met Portugal at Old Trafford but despite the winger continuing for almost an hour afterwards di Maria was sent for a precautionary X-Ray following his withdrawal. Fortunately the tests revealed nothing more sinister than a minor cut and slight swelling which will be assessed before the game against Arsenal while Luke Shaw [hamstring] will also be checked over. The United full-back felt a stiffness in his thigh against Scotland and was replaced as a precaution midway through the second half.

Manchester City winger Scott Sinclair has hinted he could leave the club in January if he remains without first-team football.

Sinclair has made just three starts in two years with City following his £6.2million move from Swansea in August 2012 and last season's loan spell at West Brom wasn't much better. The 25-year-old has had to settle for a place on the bench at best this season and it would seem better for all parties if the player was allowed to leave in January.

Tottenham defender Vlad Chiriches admits he is unhappy at White Hart Lane due to a lack of first-team action amid reported interest in his services from Inter Milan.

Chiriches had a bright start to his Tottenham career before picking up a back injury that ruled him out for much of the second half of the season, and his limited performances this season have been little short of disastrous. One particularly poor match in the Europa League has led to the Romanian falling behind Jan Vertonghen, Younes Kaboul, Fazio and Eric Dier in the pecking order, so he could well be allowed to leave in January to allow Maurico Pochettino to bring in his own choice of central defender.

Robbie Brady started and scored a brace for the Republic of Ireland against an over-matched USA side in a 4-1 route of the Americans at the Aviva Stadium.

The USA had generally played well on European soil under German manager Jurgen Klinsmann but not on this day as Robbie Brady led Ireland in a route of the Americans. Anthony Pilkington got the scoring started early in the first half only to see his opener matched by Mix Diskerud toward the end of the half. The second half was all Ireland though with Brady, James McClean and Brady again scoring for the Irish. Not a good day for what should have been a very solid American defense despite the inclusion of young goalkeeper Bill Hamid over presumed number one Brad Guzan.

Alan Pardew confirmed on Tuesday that Captain Fabricio Coloccini will miss the next three Premier League games after a scan on Tyneside confirmed the central defender had suffered a calf injury during the win at West Brom in game week eleven.

Coloccini limped off at the Hawthorns almost ten days ago but the Argentine defender flew straight home post-match and only returned to England this weekend. Tests revealed a minor strain – grade one – which is expected to keep him out until December with Pardew sweating on the fitness of a number of defenders. Steven Taylor [knee] was absent last time out although his knee injury is not thought to be serious – Mike Williamson has only just recovered from a muscular problem and is lacking fitness while Davide Santon is slightly behind schedule. Add Mehdi Abeid [broken toe] into the equation and again the international break has been unkind to United.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain hasn't been scoring regularly for Arsenal in the Premier League but he scored the opener for England against Scotland on Tuesday.

The Arsenal forward/attacking midfielder faces losing some of his playing time to Theo Walcott who has returned from injury but Tuesday he staked his claim for retaining some of it with the winning goal against Scotland at Celtic Park. Teamed with club teammate Danny Welbeck and Wayne Rooney in attack, the Arsenal attacker headed home a cross from another Arsenal teammate, Jack Wilshere, for the opening goal of the match. Wayne Rooney went on to score a brace to offset Andrew Robertson's goal for Scotland in a match that ended 3-1 to England.
