Johan Elmander has been disappointing since his return to the Premier League and that didn't change on Saturday as his header was saved by Ben Foster and Norwich failed to generate a goal.

With Fulham winning and Sunderland having matches in hand, Norwich needed to win against relegation strugglers like Swansea last weekend and West Brom this weekend. Despite the looming spector of their final four matches against top teams, Norwich has failed to score against either the Swans or the Canaries. With that sort of form they will have to keep their fingers crossed that the clubs below them can't bridge the gap to safety rather than controlling their own destiny.

West Ham chairman David Gold has revealed the club are "working hard" behind the scenes to secure the services of Arsenal full-back Carl Jenkinson for another season.

Jenkinson had a successful loan spell at the club during 2014/15 and new manager Slaven Bilic is keen on retaining the services of the Arsenal full-back for another year. Having seen his opportunities limited by Calum Chambers and Hector Bellerin at the Emirates Jenkinson is prepared to go elsewhere to gain valuable first team experience although any chance of a permanent move look to be ruled out with Arsenal keen on extending his current deal. Sunderland were believed to be front runners for the defender having had a $3 million loan fee agreed but it now looks like the deal won't be happening. West Ham begin their season today playing Lusitanos in the Europa League qualifiers – a game which will see Reece Oxford become the Hammers’ youngest-ever-first-team player at 16 years and 198 days.

Jay Rodriguez is expected to make his long awaited return from injury next Wednesday when Southampton take on RasenBallsport Leipzig in their first pre-season game in Austria.

Rodriguez hasn’t featured since rupturing his ACL at the Etihad back in April 2014 and following his lengthy recovery the striker is believed to be ready for action. The return of Rodriguez will be a welcome boost for Koeman as the Saints look to build upon their success of last season. However Southampton will have to do it the hard way again following the exit of England international Nathaniel Clyne and the impending departure of Morgan Schneiderlin. Goalkeeper Fraser Forster will also remain out until the New Year as he continues his recovery from a patellar tendon rupture.

Arsenal youth midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles has moved to Ipswich Town on loan for the 2015-16 season.

The versatile midfielder has played centrally and on the right in midfield for Arsenal's youth teams to date. Arsene Wenger has deemed it best for his development that he be tested in the Championship with Ipswich Town rather than playing another season for the Arsenal U21 side. The Tractor Boys finished 6th in the Championship last season but couldn't win the playoff and promotion to the Premier League so Maitland-Niles will be in a situation where there are at least some expectations of success that he must live up to if he is to earn playing time.

UEFA have removed Financial Fair Play restrictions from French club Paris Saint-Germain leaving them open to discuss a potential transfer/swap that would net them Angel di Maria.

There have been rumors of an Angel di Maria move to Paris as well as an Edinson Cavani move in the opposite direction for a number of weeks. One of the barriers to some or part of that scenario unfolding has been removed as UEFA lifted FFP restrictions imposed last season. Swap deals rarely come off but with Manchester United having purchased Memphis Depay as a potential di Maria replacement and reportedly shopping Robin van Persie whom Cavani would replace there is some logic here. PSG were di Maria's preferred destination last summer as well before United came in and offered Real Madrid a better deal.

A tumultuous summer got even worse for Javier Hernandez as he added an injury to his uncertain club status heading into the 2015-16 season.

Javier Hernandez has had a difficult time finding a happy club home to say the least. He has been a fringe player to varying degrees of effect at Manchester United and Real Madrid since coming to Europe. What he hasn't been able to do is find a place where he can start regularly. The search for such a home will likely be delayed again as he has reportedly broken his collarbone in a friendly with Honduras in the lead up to this month's CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Jazz Richards has moved from the Liberty Stadium to Craven Cottage as Fulham look to strengthen for another run at promotion to the Premier League.

Richards has been a frequent loanee over the past three seasons having been in the Championship with Crystal Palace, Huddersfield Town and then Fulham last season. During that time he has started only seven Premier League matches. With the player reaching 24-years-old, Swansea have clearly decided that his ceiling is as a Championship player and made a move to put the player in a position to succeed at that level permanently while freeing up a roster spot.

The Daily Express are reporting that Chelsea are willing to sell Oscar to Juventus if the Italian champions meet their £25 million valuation of the player.

Oscar seems to be quietly entering Andre Schurrle territory at Stamford Bridge. That is to say that he is undeniably a very good player but seems to have been deemed "not Chelsea material" by Jose Mourinho. Over the course of the season Mourinho appeared to be de-emphasizing the Brazilian playmaker in favor of moving Cesc Fabregas into a more advanced role. It could be that the Brazilian, like many in the Chelsea squad, was just exhausted after not being rotated much or whether he has truly fallen down the pecking order at the Bridge remains to be seen. The rumors of a transfer out just won't go away nor has Mourinho or anyone else at Chelsea stood up and said that the player is not for sale.

Stoke City are reportedly in talks to bring Real Madrid defensive midfielder Sergio Molina to the Potteries.

ESPNFC is reporting that Mark Hughes and company are in talks with Real Madrid to bring youth product Molina to the Britannia. With rumors persisting that Steven N'Zonzi is looking to leave, recruiting a new holding player to shield the back four and anchor the midfield is among the Potters' top priorities this summer. In Molina, Hughes would be bringing in another highly rated youngster from La Liga who seems unlikely to break into the first team at the club that developed him. Not a bad strategy if you can continue to convince kids from Barcelona and Madrid to come live in Stoke.

Goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon posts some surprisingly good stats despite Sunderland’s dire season…

Another day, another player that north-east rivals Sunderland and Newcastle ‘do battle’ over. The latest is Chelsea’s Marco van Ginkel. The Dutch International – one of a sizeable migration mooted to be flocking towards the Stadium of Light this summer – spent last season on loan at AC Milan and is similarly available again. One battle that has already been won is in goal. Despite both clubs suffering dire seasons, the records of their respective Goalkeepers could scarcely be more different. Sunderland’s Costel Pantilimon’s 11 clean sheets from 28 matches (39%) was only bettered by two in the PL – Arsenal’s David Ospina (another surprise) and Southampton’s Fraser Forster (both 44%). While Newcastle’s Tim Krul came in at the opposite end of the spectrum, returning the PL’s worst goals conceded figures (1.56 per match). With improvement expected, Pantilimon is a Goalkeeper for Fantasy Managers to file under ‘value’.

Michu's career continues on it's downward spiral as Portuguese forward Eder joins Swansea from Sporting Braga on a £5million transfer fee.

With Wilfried Bony never really replaced, Eder arrives from Portugal in hopes of boosting the Swans attack. The linked story indicates that Gary Monk intends to start both Eder and Bafetimbi Gomis together with Andre Ayew supporting but that would be a departure for Swansea if true. When both Bony and Gomis were available early last season Monk tended to play Bony as a lone striker with five midfielders supporting him. Be cautious in your evaluations of Eder as he enters the league.

Angel di Maria can't help but have his confidence boosted after scoring a brace in Argentina's 6-1 thrashing of Paraguay in the semi-finals of the Copa America last night.

After a dire season at Manchester United saw the attacking midfielder's stock drop Louis Van Gaal will be happy to see his wayward attacker among the goals again even if it isn't in the Premier League. Before anyone gets TOO excited though, please note that while Paraguay beat Brazil to get to the semi-final, they are still the 85th ranked team in the world according to FIFA. Di Maria SHOULD be scoring against the 85th ranked team in the world if he has any hope of returning to his best. We'll see where he is once United training resumes.
