Wayne Rooney has indicated that he is willing to take an injection to ensure he can play in Manchester United's Champions League second leg against Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

Manager David Moyes has been quoted as saying that he'd "be mad" not to let Rooney play given the player's determination to do so. Assuming he comes through that match in good condition he will also likely be in the frame to start United's next Premier League match on April 20th vs. Everton. Unless he suffers a setback in Munich it seems highly likely he will be back to face his former club.

Wolverhampton adding the veteran shot stopper will likely see John Ruddy looking for pastures new this offseason.

While Patricio is on international duty with Portugal, his agent George Mendes is making moves securing his future at Wolverhampton. Patricio had his contract terminated at Sporting CP due to the clubs lack of regard for player safety paving the way for his move to Wolverhampton. Patricio has made 327 appearances for Sporting CP and will bring a plethora of experience to the Premier League for Wolves. The interesting question will be if Ruddy is okay playing a backup role or if he’ll want to move on to a new team.

Concerns over the fitness of Gylfi Sigurdsson prior to the World Cup look to be a little misplaced following his performance in the historic 1-1 draw with Argentina on Saturday.

The Iceland star suffered a serious knee ligament injury back in March, and despite the early optimism, Sigurdsson did not play another competitive match during 2017/18. His lack of game-time called into question his selection for the national side. However, after just 87 minutes of competitive football, Sigurdsson starred against standout favourites Argentina. The influential skipper covered more ground, during the Group D opener [11,048 m], than any other player, in fact, it was a kilometre more than the team average. Sigurdsson attempted 41 sprints, of which, 3% were over 20 km/h with a top speed 27.22 km/h, once again topping his international teammates. "Generally, he’s very fit," Icelandic football reporter Magnus Mar Einarsson said: "You could see that some of the players were very tired towards the end of the game, but not Gylfi. He leads by example, putting all the running in."

Roberto Martinez says the Belgium quartet of Thibaut Courtois, Eden Hazard, Toby Alderweireld and Mousa Dembele will put all talk of their futures on hold until after the finals in Russia.

"The group has decided to only focus on the World Cup. All the personal situations will be put to one side," revealed the national manager. Courtois has just 12 months remaining on his current deal and recent reports suggest Chelsea have turned down a £35m bid from Champions League winners Real Madrid. Meanwhile, team-mate Hazard is also attracting interest from the La Liga giants, and he said little to quell rumours of a potential move: "Do they interest me? Yes, maybe," he said. "If I stay at Chelsea, then the team have to do better than they did last season." Alderweireld appears to have fallen out-of-favour under Mauricio Pochettino following an injury-plagued season and the centre-back could leave, if a new deal can’t be agreed. Dembele appears the most likely to move on as Tottenham look to cash-in on the 30-year-old who is a long-term fitness worry.

West Ham United are on the verge of the signing of Swansea City goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski for a fee believed in the region of £7m.

After alternating between loanee Joe Hart and Adrian last season, the Hammers are hoping to solve their goalkeeping problem with the addition of Fabianski. The 33-year-old, who is currently in Russia at the World Cup with Poland, was the Swans standout performer during their relegation campaign last season. From 38 starts in 2017-18, Fabianski returned nine clean sheets and the second-most saves (137) of all goalkeepers. Speaking on his future to Polish paper Prezeglad Sportowy in Russia, Fabianski said: "We need to wait a bit, but I won't be lying - something is going to happen. Now I need to wait and be patient. If I leave Swansea, I will regret that it will happen after relegation to the Championship."

Reports suggest Norwich City playmaker James Maddison has chosen to join Leicester City over Southampton.

After accepting bids in the region of £20m from both clubs, the 21-year-old attacking midfielder appears to have chosen City over the Saints. Maddison is set to undergo a medical and finalise personal terms in the next couple of days. The youngster scored 14 goals and provided eight assists in the Championship last season. Maddison, who also led the Championship in key passes per game last term, will become the third signing of the summer after the arrivals of Ricardo Pereira and Jonny Evans. In short, the move is part of Claude Puel's plan to prepare for life without Riyad Mahrez.

Vincent Kompany will remain with the national team as he continues his recovery from injury.

Roberto Martinez confirmed on Sunday: "We are going to maintain the squad of 23 as announced," despite Thomas Vermaelen [hamstring] and Kompany [groin] being ruled out of the Group G opener against Panama. "We are not going to use any changes," he said. "Vinny has evolved better than we thought, even though we thought that he could have a good opportunity to be involved in the group phase." The news ends any hope of standby option Laurent Ciman featuring at the World Cup finals and the Los Angeles FC defender was allowed to return home on Saturday. Vermaelen continues his rehab in Moscow and he could be "medically fit" for the clash with Tunisia while Kompany "might" be available for the game against England on June 28. Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata could fill the breach during the interim. The Red Devils have no other fitness concerns after Dries Mertens was cleared following a recent hamstring complaint.

Manuel Lanzini is on the road to recovery following knee surgery in Barcelona on Thursday evening.

The Hammers playmaker ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during training with the national side just six days before the start of the World Cup finals. "I received a pass from Marcos Rojo and tried to give it to Javier Mascherano who was behind me," he said. "When I turned, I didn’t set my foot firmly on the ground and all my weight fell on my knee. I knew instantly that it was going to be very bad." Initial reports suggested that he could miss the entire 2018/19 Premier League campaign, although updates since say the damage is not as serious as first thought. Lanzini was operated on by world-renowned surgeon Dr Ramon Cugat and spent the night at Hospital Quirón. New head of medical at West Ham – Richard Collinge – is expected to travel to Spain on Friday to discover the full extent of the problem.

Brighton and Hove Albion defender Leon Balogun has emerged as an early doubt for Nigeria’s World Cup opener against Croatia.

The 29-year-old was signed by the south coast side on a free transfer having spent the last three seasons at Bundesliga outfit FSV Mainz 05. "I am delighted to welcome Leon to the club," manager Chris Hughton said. "He will add more depth to our defensive options. He is in the peak years of his career and I am sure he will integrate well into the squad. He also has valuable experience, having played in the Bundesliga, the Europa League and at international level." Balogun is a tough tackling centre-back who reads the game well and is comfortable in possession, although his distribution lacks quality on occasions. On Thursday, sources confirmed Balogun missed Nigeria’s last session in Essentuki, due to injury, and he was sent for a scan to determine the severity of the problem. If he fails to recover, then coach Gernot Rohr may opt for Kenneth Omeruo as a like-for-like replacement.

Ilkay Gundogan is a target for Barcelona according to reports in England.

The Germany international arrived at The Etihad in 2016 and has two years remaining on his current deal. Gundogan is said to be happy in the north west, but, a switch to the Camp Nou does appeal as manager Ernesto Valverde looks to replace Andres Iniesta who joined Japanese club Vissel Kobe after more than 20 years at the club. Despite a major setback just months after his arrival – ruptured anterior cruciate ligament – Gundogan has established himself as a key member of Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad and his signature would command a hefty fee. It would take a figure north of £50m to begin negotiations, although the interest may prompt City into offering him a new deal. However, if Gundogan does move, then Guardiola could focus his attention on signing Toni Kroos from Real Madrid. He is a long-term admirer of the midfielder and now that Jose Mourinho has cooled his interest, City will feel they are well-placed to sign the 28-year-old.

Tottenham Hotspur has submitted a £15m bid for Aston Villa starlet Jack Grealish according to reports in the British press.

Earlier this week it was confirmed that Villa were set for talks with the Football League as fears grow over the club’s finances. Struggling to comply with Financial Fair Play rules, Chinese owner Dr Tony Xia was late paying a tax bill while former chief executive – Keith Wyness – is also suing for constructive dismissal. With a spiralling wage bill, Villa could look to cash-in on Grealish to help balance the books. The highly-rated 22-year-old has had an excellent season and finally looks to be fulfilling his potential having failed to deliver consistently since breaking into the first-team in 2015. However, the arrival of former England international John Terry helped take the midfielders game to the next level: "When he first signed I had to pinch myself, he is so professional in everything he does and that rubs off on us young players. I will be thinking: "Do I need to be doing that?", when he is already doing it."
