Liverpool have made an initial 6.5 million pound bid for Sunderland's Simon Mignolet.

While it seems like this transfer is moving ahead, there are doubts. Sunderland are holding out for more money, and there are still other clubs interested in Mignolet (Arsenal, for instance). Meanwhile at Anfield, Reina's status is unclear and may still hinge on Victor Valedes' "will he or won't he" routine at Barcelona.

Newcastle United continued their sizzling form by winning their fifth consecutive league match and sixth overall as Moussa Sissoko unlocked a goalless affair late on as the Magpies defeat QPR 1-0.

For once, we can anoint a hero not named Ayoze Perez in quite some time. All the credit is deserved for such a fine run of form for Newcastle, but it has not always been in dominant and convincing fashion and today was no exception. The defense, minus Fabricio Coloccini, were able to handle a relatively weak Rangers attack but it was a bittersweet afternoon when Ryan Taylor was forced off with what appeared to be yet another knee injury. The goal was a result of a lively build up, and it was a give and go with Sammy Ameobi that freed Sissoko and created enough space for him to beat the keeper. The Magpies travel to West Ham next in an attempt to keep the streak alive in what promises to be a marquee match.

Diego Costa continued his fine scoring form in Chelsea's straight forward 2-0 home win against West Brom.

We might have expected more from both Costa and Chelsea given the number of good chances Costa had (at least three) and the advantage Chelsea had (up a man for a significant portion of the match). Regardless, Costa took a beautiful Oscar cross on his chest and drove it home for an early 1-0 lead. Eden Hazard scored from a short Cesc Fabregas corner later in the first half for the final score.

Making his first start of the season, Claudio Yacob was shown a red card for jumping in to a tackle on Diego Costa two-footed in the first half.

Remarkably, West Brom didn't concede after the red card was shown to Claudio Yacob but they were already down 2-0 when it happened and they never really sniffed the goal either. Chelsea cruised to an easy home victory up a man and two goals.

Leicester City and Sunderland ended their week 12 match in a 0-0 draw.

The two teams left frustrated as they couldn't score on each other. The two players who came on top were goalkeepers Costel Pantilimon and Kasper Schmeichel. Leicester seem to have switched positions with Burnley, as they haven't scored in over eight hours of Premier League action while Burnley are now pouring in goals out of nowhere. Despite the draw, both teams remain outside of the relegation zone, but neither is safe.

Combined with a win by Burnley this afternoon, Queens Park Rangers 1-0 loss to Newcastle United sees them dead last in the Premier League.

Rangers have just 9 points through the first dozen gameweeks and it appears clear that whatever ideas Harry Redknapp has in mind clearly are not working. He has several players good enough to play in this league but there seems to be no direction in their attacking or defending. It will be an interesting transfer window for QPR. Unless they show signs of righting the ship by the end of the festival season, it may be time to hold a fire sale. Hosting Leicester next week, it could be do or die for Harry at Loftus Road.

Danny Ings scored in the 11th and 12th minutes at the Britannia to give Burnley their second win on the trot.

Just when we all thought that the season was a lost cause, Burnley have strung together two wins in a row against teams that weren't considered terrible going into the match-up. This time it was a supposedly solid-if-not-great Stoke side playing at home that fell victim to two Danny Ings goals in the space of about a minute. Burnley are by no means safe but they are at least looking like they'll make it a relegation battle instead of being guaranteed a spot in the bottom three.

Romelu Lukaku and Leon Osman both scored to give Everton a 2-1 win over West Ham United.

This was one of the better matches of the day as it featured action on both sides of the pitch. Everton were the better team and deserved to win three points. Lukaku opened up the scoring early before Mauro Zarate's shot deflected into the goal for an equalizer. In the second half, the referee played advantage on a foul when he saw Samuel Eto'o making a run forward, and Eto'o brilliantly picked out Osman for an easy tap in. Everton are finding their form and are climbing the table, where they are now in eighth place.

Geoff Cameron's turn as a center back for Stoke City did not go as the US international would have hoped with a 2-1 loss to lowly Burnley.

USMNT boss Jurgen Klinsmann has indicated that Geoff Cameron needs games for his club as a center back if he is going to secure a regular spot for the Red, White and Blue. He got that chance on Saturday but it didn't go well with Stoke City conceding two early goals and ultimately losing at home to relegation-threatened Burnley. The defensive issues can't be pinned entirely on Cameron but it certainly doesn't bode well for his chances at more starts once Marc Wilson returns to fitness.

Yaya Toure came through in the clutch to score Manchester City's game-winner over Swansea as the Sky Blues desperately try to keep pace with Chelsea in a 2-1 final.

Stevan Jovetic leveled the match in the opening half not long after Swansea took the early lead, as he guided home a Jesus Navas cross but City were not looking like they were in their typical form, with Sergio Aguero having an especially quiet day by his standards. Class would eventually prevail however, and it came just after the hour mark. Fernandinho delivered a slick back heel to a surging Toure, and the Ivorian smashed it home for his second of the year and City would hold on to take the points. With two goals in 12, Yaya is on pace for about 6 or 7 this season, which is right in line with the seasons he had with City prior to last year's MVP performance of 20 goals. In other words, don't go gaga for Yaya yet - it may be another six weeks until we see his heroics again.

Swansea took an early lead thanks to a goal from Wilfired Bony, but Manchester City would eventually come from behind to win as they defeat the Swans 2-1.

Nathan Dyer was given a chance in the starting XI again and the choice didn't take long to pay off as he flicked the ball over defenders to find Bony who finished from point blank range. The last three gameweeks were always going to be tough with matches against Everton, Arsenal and City, but the Swans gained a respectable four points and now have a lovely run of fixtures to come. Bony may be due for a cluster of goals in that time - after failing to score in Swansea's first seven games, he then clustered four together over the next three, so it appears his goals may be coming in bunches this season, meaning today's tally may point to a very productive next few weeks for him.

Jack Wilshere played well but couldn't convert when it counted and then suffered yet another ankle injury as Arsenal fell to United 2-1.

Arsenal were dominant for most of the first half and should have had at least one goal. Arsenal's high pressure forced a turnover in the United end and Jack Wilshere was in alone on David De Gea with time to pick his shot. The England midfielder can score great goals but in this case he put it right at a sprawling De Gea and the opportunity went begging. Early in the second half, Wilshere suffered another ankle injury from a Paddy McNair tackle. It will give Arsenal no solace that they played better football than their opposition today since it ended in yet another loss to their bitter rivals.
