Chelsea were not their sharpest today, but Demba Ba scored the only goal they would need to take the points and keep pace in the title race with a 0-1 win.

The Blues were without Eden Hazard and Frank Lampard in their squad, and Mourinho gave Ba a rare start. They did not show much chemistry in their attack on the whole during the match, but an early sending off of Chico Flores provided the advantage necessary to finally break the Swansea defense in the second half. Ba found himself isolated with Ashley Williams, went left, shot with the left foot and found the back of the net for his fourth league goal of the season. Their defense meanwhile kept things tidy against 10 men and continue to be a reliable fantasy source.

Steve Bruce has confirmed that new signing Robert Snodgrass is set to miss at least six months after a scan revealed the midfielder dislocated his knee and damaged ligaments during the win over QPR.

The news comes as a devastating blow for the Scottish international who was hopeful of a return within 2/3 months; but a second battery of tests indicated the damage was far worse than first feared after his initial scan proved inconclusive. The Hull City squad is already stretched having to fight on two separate footballing fronts - Premier and the Europe League - and this latest development could force the Tigers coach back into the transfer market with only ten days of the window remaining.

La Gazetta dello Sport is reporting that Arsenal have beaten Juventus and Roma to the signing of Greek international center back Kostas Manolas.

With Per Mertesacker still recovering from his World Cup exertions over the summer and Laurent Koscielny playing despite a Achilles complaint, Arsenal's lack of depth at center back has been exposed early in the season. Calum Chambers has played well as Mertesacker's deputy but one more center back was pretty clearly needed to round out a solid squad at the Emirates after Thomas Vermaelen's departure. Reports from Italy indicate that Kostas Manolas will be that man. Well regarded after a strong World Cup for Greece, the 23-year-old has been linked to a variety of big European clubs all summer. If La Gazetta dello Sport is to be believed, the deal is done.

After a protracted transfer saga Argentine international defender Marcos Rojo has joined Manchester United with Nani going the other way to join Sporting Lisbon.

The versatile defender may give us some insight into Louis Van Gaal's tactical intentions. Rojo is able to play the left-most of three center backs or left wing back in a 3-5-2 formation as well as left back in more conventional four-defender alignments but as not typically played as a center back in four-defender alignments. Given the huge investment in Luke Shaw earlier in the summer to play left back, the acquisition of Rojo seems to indicate that United intend to play a 3-5-2 more often than not with Shaw as the preferred wing back on the left and Rojo with Johnny Evans and (presumably) Phil Jones as the central trio. When Shaw is not available Rojo would slide to the left and play wing back with Chris Smalling slotting into his center back slot.

Marouane Fellaini joins Manchester United’s ever growing list of injured players as the Belgium midfielder is spotted leaving Bridgewater Hospital in the North West of England on crutches with his foot in a protective cast.

The injury reportedly occurred during a training session at Carrington on Monday although the full extent of the problem hasn’t been established. Sources in Belgium claim the ankle is not broken although there may be ligament damage; Fellaini will need a scan to confirm. The removable brace doesn’t necessarily indicate a significant issue as quite often this type of plastic cast will be applied as precaution to avoid any further complications; however the injury is likely to mean the midfielder will not move within this transfer window – Napoli had been touted as potential suitors of a loan deal before the end of August.

Aston Villa's Charles N'Zogbia was fairly average in his first match of the season but his fantasy upside remains high.

The Villa midfielder has missed a long time due to injury and this was his first competitive match in over a year. WIth that in mind, he was still able to put a shot on target, win two fouls, and complete a cross for a total of six fantasy points. That was with him only playing 70 minutes. This sort of production should be expected from N'Zogbia and a goal or an assist would have made this a great fantasy day. If he continues to play and take free kicks, N'Zogbia can provide a good fantasy floor with a huge upside.

Andre Schurrle started and played spectacularly in Chelsea's win over Burnley yesterday.

Schurrle had an amazing World Cup, winning the trophy with Germany, and has taken his form to the Premier League. Chelsea played really well with Cesc Fabregas organizing the attack from the middle and that allowed Eden Hazard and Andre Schurrle to make great runs down the flanks. One of those runs resulted in a brilliant goal for Schurrle. The German winger can score and create chances for his teammates and seems like the number one choice at right-wing this year. Willian will certainly get playing time but we'd feel safe about using Schurrle in fantasy.

Thibaut Courtois has won the goalkeeper battle at Chelsea and he played well in the Blues' first match of the season.

Courtois is a fantastic young goalkeeper who just beat Petr Cech to the starting job. The young Belgian keeper has called upon Cech to stay at Chelsea. Petr Cech is still of fantastic quality but it's unknown if he'll remain at the club as a backup, especially considering the fact that top European clubs will be after his services. Regardless of Cech's choice, Courtois seems to be booked on as the number one goalkeeper at Chelsea and should be great fantasy value playing behind the Premier League's best defense.

Calum Chambers has played in two official matches plus the Community Shield and has looked very much the part of a strong buy.

Still a few months short of his 20th birthday, Calum Chambers has looked every bit the rising star that Arsenal paid Southampton for. Per Mertesacker's extended summer break has given the versatile Chambers a chance to start earlier than expected in his Arsenal career. So far the evidence is strong that this is a good buy even if he gets fewer minutes as the season goes on.

After a month on the side-lines Michael Carrick is closing in on a return following ankle surgery back in July.

The Manchester United midfielder suffered an injury during training just as Louis van Gaal took charge and only days before the clubs pre-season tour of America. The Dutchman is said to be a big admirer of the exiled Geordie prompting sections of the media to speculate that the 33 year-old would be the next United captain although a place in the starting eleven is by no means guaranteed following the summer arrival of Ander Herrera. Carrick is due to have his protective cast removed within the next two weeks and will target Everton who visit Old Trafford on October 5th for a return to action.

Aaron Ramsey will miss the second leg of Arsenal's UCL group stage qualifying tie with Besiktas in North London after being shown two yellow cards in Istanbul.

Arsenal will have to hope they have Mesut Ozil back and better form from Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla who were both off the mark. They will definitely be missing Aaron Ramsey who will be suspended for the match at the Emirates. Arsenal return home needing a win in the return fixture after the first leg ended nil-nil despite multiple good chances for both sides.

Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Julio Cesar has flown to Portugal for talks with Benfica.

34-year-old Cesar was Brazil's number one at the World Cup, but he's being kept out of the QPR side by Rob Green, having not played a game for Rangers since April 2013. Reports suggest the keeper's wages are astronomically high and the hierarchy are keen to off-load him as quickly as possible to free up some salary funds for new acquisitions.
