Ross Barkley scored a brilliant goal from 25 yards out to open up the scoring but Everton ended up losing to Manchester City.

Barkley played great and made yet another statement to his bid for a World Cup roster spot this summer. Barkley has had a fantastic season that included a few fantastic goals and exciting runs behind the defense. The loss was a huge blow for Everton, who are now out of contention for the final top four spot in the Premier League. With Tottenham and Manchester United both losing earlier today, Everton is now guaranteed to play in the Europa League. Considering their huge lead in goal difference, they are going to finish in 5th place regardless of what happens in the final week of the Premier League.

Bournemouth will have to do without Dan Gosling and Andrew Surman for Saturday's visit to the Stadium of Light.

Gosling hobbled off in the Cherries' demolition of 'Boro in GW34 and has not recovered in time for the trip north. Surman was injured in a collision with Fraser Forster earlier in the month in the 0-0 draw with Southampton. He damaged the medial ligaments in his knee but there's hope he'll return before the PL season draws to a close. Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Eddie Howe said: "We’re still without Andrew Surman and Dan Gosling doesn’t look like he’s going to make it. Dan was struggling with his calf and was forced off against Middlesbrough. With Andrew, he’s not at the stage where he’s ready to train." Lewis Cook is likely to make his second start of the season in place of Gosling.

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney may return to his side's starting XI to face Swansea on Sunday.

Rooney, 31, has not played in midfield in his short spells on the pitch during José Mourinho's tenure as manager, but played there regularly under Van Gaal. Mourinho made a brash statement about this when he took the United post, claiming that ""ith me he will never be a No. 6, not even a No. 8" however it appears that injuries and suspensions will force the Portuguese to U-turn on his statement. When quizzed in his pre-match press conference on whether Rooney was be viewed as a midfield option for the weekend, Mourinho explained: "Yes, he’s an option... We don’t have [any other players there]. We have Ander Herrera and Michael Carrick and nothing else. And Tim Fosu-Mensah, like [against City], an emergency to help the team, he’ s another who we will miss, so we are in trouble but we will fight, that’s for sure."

Manchester United defenders Eric Bailly and Daley Blind may be forced to start for their side again on Sunday against Swansea.

The United squad has been struck down by a plague of injuries in recent weeks, especially among centre-backs, with Jones, Smalling, and Rojo all sidelined with various ailments. Holding the fort has been Eric Bailly and, since Rojo's injury, Daley Blind. They were impregnable in Thursday's derby, but it appears that Mourinho won't be able to give them the rest they need on Sunday: "In this moment, Eric is the only option we have – it’s Axel, Eric and Daley [Blind]. I think Eric and Daley played again absolutely amazing [against City]. I have to speak with them and see how they are and see how they feel." When directly asked about resting Bailly in place of the untested youth prospect Axel Tuanzebe, Mourinho joked that he may have to play himself, seemingly dismissing the prospect.

Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini will be suspended for his sides next three league matches.

The ban comes as a result of his deserved red card in the closing minutes of the Manchester derby on Thursday. 19 seconds after a poor tackle, the Belgian was involved in a clash of heads with City's Sergio Aguero after again tripping the Argentine. Fellaini is perhaps fortunate that the punishment was not extended by the Football Association beyond the standard three game ban for a straight red card offence, as he refused to leave the pitch for a period after the dismissal. He and his manager, Jose Mourinho, were indignant that Aguero had collapsed to the floor after their foreheads touched, believing the referee was conned. He will be absent for Sunday's clash with Swansea at Old Trafford and two trips to London to face Arsenal and Spurs.

Sitting in 20th place, Sunderland looked doomed for relegation already, but a growing list of weekend doubts won't help its morale.

Manager David Moyes confirmed that midfielders Lee Cattermole and Darron Gibson and defender Jason Denayer, all starters last week, are doubts to face Bournemouth due to minor injuries. The club is already missing Jan Kirchhoff, Bryan Oviedo, Paddy McNair and Duncan Watmore and will wait on the fitness of Jack Rodwell as well, while Sebastian Larsson serves the final game of his suspension. Said Moyes: We did [have a couple patched up for Middlesbrough] and we’ve got another couple ahead of tomorrow We will need to wait on them and it probably won’t be until tomorrow [Saturday] until we can make a decision."

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger confirmed that winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is fit enough to start against Spurs on Sunday.

The England international has been deployed as a wing-back in recent weeks, impressing in a 2-1 extra-time win against Manchester City last weekend in the FA Cup. But he picked up a minor knock that saw him held on the bench as a precaution against Leicester City during the week. But against rival Tottenham this weekend, Wenger could deploy the speedy winger back where he creates the most problems: "He will be fit enough to start because it was more precautionary to leave him on the bench [against Leicester]. I didn’t want to take the gamble with him."

Steve Agnew has confirmed that both Dani Ayala and Grant Leadbitter are doubtful for Sunday's match against Manchester City at the Riverside Stadium.

Ayala was forced off after twisting his ankle during Wednesday's 1-0 victory over Sunderland while Leadbitter missed the last two matches because of a hamstring injury, putting their availability in question. If the pair is unable to play, then Fabio and Adam Clayton will likely be handed starts. Middlesbrough cannot be relegated this weekend but sit six points from safety with five matches remaining, meaning Agnew's side must take at least a point to keep their slime survival hopes alive.

Slaven Bilic has confirmed that Andy Carroll will miss out on Saturday's trip to Stoke City due to a thigh problem.

The England striker was absent from last weekend's draw with Everton after suffering from a recurrence of a thigh problem, and has been unable to recover in time for the trip to the bet365 Stadium. "Unfortunately, Andy Carroll won’t be available for this game," Bilic added. "I was expecting him to be back for this Stoke game, but he’s not, so he should be for the next game against Spurs. He should be OK." Jonathan Calleri and Diafra Sakho will be in contention to replace Carroll in the starting XI. Meanwhile, Bilic confirmed that Mark Noble will go straight back into the side after missing two matches through suspension.

Craig Cathcart watch continues as the center back continues to try to recover from a knee injury, this time with the visit of Liverpool as the target return date.

Frankly, Watford haven't missed Cathcart or the injured Younes Kaboul a great deal. Walter Mazzarri hasn't had a full contingent of center backs in what seems like months but the Hornets keep plugging along never really falling into a big slump. With Liverpool continuing to struggle against teams that sit back and absorb Jurgen Klopp's pressure you wouldn't bet against Mazzarri's side getting a point or more at Vicarage Road despite the pedigree of their opponents and the absences at center back.

Leicester City striker Islam Slimani returned to training on Thursday and could feature against West Brom at the Hawthorns on Saturday.

The Algerian international has been recovering from a groin strain, which forced him to miss the last two league matches, and appears to have a chance of returning against the Baggies this weekend. However, despite scoring in consecutive appearances prior to suffering the injury, Slimani is unlikely to start as he's been out of action for three weeks. If Slimani does make the squad chances are he will feature off the bench, in relief of either Shinji Okazaki or Jamir Vardy. On Slimani's availability, Shakespeare said: "Slimani trained yesterday [Thursday]. If there is no adverse reaction, I think he may be ready to train with the group today. We’ll assess him after training."

Craig Shakespeare has revealed that Wes Morgan is "touch and go" to be fit for Leicester City’s trip to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

Morgan's return would be a nice boost to Leicester City's backline, although Yohan Benalouane has proved a reliable stand-in alongside Robert Huth in central defense the last six Premier League matches. The City skipper missed the trip to Arsenal on Wednesday but trained this week and will be assessed on Saturday morning ahead of the clash at The Hawthorns. "He’ll be touch and go," Shakespeare told the media on Friday morning. "He has trained outside but not fully with the squad yet. I’m hoping, if he trains today, he’ll be in with a late shout tomorrow. I won’t put him at risk but, knowing his character, he’ll want to play when he’s 100 per cent." If Morgan is fit chances are he'll start, but an omission would see Benalouane continue in the starting XI.
