There are reports from a number of outlets that Arsenal and Gonzalo Higuain have agreed on personal terms and all that is left is for Arsenal and Real Madrid to finalize the transfer fee.

With betting on the move apparently suspended, this one seems like it will be happening and it is a huge move for Arsenal. Outside of whatever impact Higuain makes as a forward, Olivier Giroud will likely move back in the pecking order from being an adequate-but-not-spectacular first-teamer to being a much better reserve #9 than Arsenal has had in some time. It also likely means the end of conversations about Walcott, Gervinho or anyone else on the current roster playing as a central forward on anything other than a fill-in basis.

Sergio Ramos opened the scoring in the first half only to see it equalized by Atletico in the 79th minute. Extra time was scoreless and the match went to penalties. Both sides made their first three and Real made their fourth. Juanfran put his shot off the post giving Ronaldo the chance to seal it. The Portugal international buried his kick and Real and Zidane were off to celebrate.

The Ireland national team is coming into full fitness at just the right time with James McCarthy and Ciaran Clark back.

The Everton standout midfielder has yet to train with the Irish squad after suffering a thigh injury at the end of the Premier League season. Meanwhile, Clark missed the team's friendly draw with the Netherlands on Friday due to an Achilles injury, but participated in light training on Saturday ahead of Tuesday's friendly against Belarus. While McCarthy is set to return to training on Monday, coach Martin O'Neill said he will likely not be involved in the friendly, but has done enough to be in the 23-man final squad for the European championships this summer.

Yaya Toure is reportedly set to stay at Manchester City this summer to fight for a spot under incoming manager Pep Guardiola.

The Ivorian midfielder rejected two offers from the Chinese Super League sides Shanghai SIPG and Jiangsu Suning that would have made him the highest-paid footballer in the world with a contract of more than £300,000-a-week on top of a massive signing bonus. But if he rejects advances from Inter Milan and former coach Roberto Mancini, Toure faces a fight on his hands under Guardiola, who sold him from Barcelona. The legendary manager is set to make Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan his first signing with a £17.8 million move lined up.

The UEFA have ended the anti-doping ban levied on Mamadou Sakho back in March, and the French international defender is eligible to play again for club and country.

Sakho may squeeze his way into the French squad for this summer's Euros as the team's manager, Didier Deschamps, has until the last day of the month to submit his final 23-man list. A lawyer representing Sakho argued that the substance used by Sakho which got him into trouble, a fat-burning product, was not on the list of banned substances. Sakho has reportedly been training on his own during his suspension and is eager to play for Les Blues.

Roy Hodgson confirms Daniel Sturridge is suffering from a "minor [calf] injury" which is not expected to affect his chances of appearing at this summers’ European Championships.

The rumour mill has been on full tilt this week suggesting Sturridge would miss out on a place at Euro 2016. The 26-year-old has failed to train since arriving at camp, but Hodgson remains hopeful he can overcome this latest setback and prove his fitness in training on Monday: "I have no indication the seriousness of the injury is such, (that) it is putting his chances in jeopardy at all." If injury was to rule Sturridge out, then the Three Lions would turn to man-of-the-moment Marcus Rashford whose remarkable rise from anonymity was capped on Friday with a goal on his England senior debut after only three-minutes.

The Marcus Rashford fairy tale continued on Friday with the Manchester United youth product starting and scoring for England against Australia in a Euro tune-up.

Rashford's rise has been almost as out of nowhere as that of Leicester City and the party looks like it may continue into the summer. With Daniel Sturridge (injury) and Jamie Vardy (wedding) unavailable, Rashford started against Australia on Friday and it was a mere three minutes before he was on the scoresheet. Teammate Wayne Rooney came on at halftime for Jack Wilshere and made it two for the United duo as they look to push England beyond their traditional quarter final exit in big tournaments.

The inevitable has finally become reality as Manchester United have named Jose Mourinho manager on a three year deal.

Mourinho and United have been linked since almost the moment he was dismissed from Chelsea. Louis Van Gaal's struggles with the media and style of play left supporters wanting a change. Mourinho is a controversial choice as a Van Gaal disciple and a conservative manager when it comes to the attacking football supporters crave. It will be a fascinating marriage and the renewal of his rivalry with Pep Guardiola will surely make for huge headlines.

Despite rumors linking him with Real Madrid, Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois said he expects to be at Chelsea next season.

The keeper is on on international duty with Belgium expected to shine at this summer's European championships in France, but he confirmed that he sees himself at Chelsea when he gets back with Antonio Conte set to take over from Guus Hiddink in July: "I am at Chelsea. We are going to have a new coach and I have three years left on my contract. If nothing major happens I will stay at Chelsea. I know that in football things happen fast, but in theory my next season is with Chelsea."

Wales are taking no risks with Joe Allen and will handle the 26-year-old in kid gloves throughout the build up to Euro 2016 as the Liverpool midfielder recovers from a minor injury.

Allen picked up a slight knee problem towards the end of the domestic campaign and Chris Coleman is not prepared to jeopardise the availability of his key playmaker ahead of the tournament opener against Slovakia on June 11. Allen has trained away from the main group in Portugal, but the former Swansea star is expected to re-join full sessions very soon. Wales have already lost Tom Bradshaw and Adam Henley to injury this week while Preston North End goalkeeper Chris Maxwell has been called up as a precaution with Danny Ward struggling to shake off a knee issue.

Roy Hodgson insists the fitness of Gary Cahill is not an issue despite the Chelsea defender struggling due to an ongoing hip problem.

The 30-year-old is one of only three centre-halves expected to be included in the 23-man Euro squad and in spite of John Stones’ lack of international experience, the Three Lions manager is not tempted to take anyone else alongside Chris Smalling. Cahill was a doubt for last weekends’ friendly with Turkey but had an injection prior the game. Even though he came through 90 minutes, Cahill was slightly hampered and a decision was taken on Monday for another jab which would help clear the problem. "I decided with physio Gary Lewin and the doctor that this was the best thing to do," Roy Hodgson said. "He’s played a lot of football and it was very unlikely one player would play in all three preparation games from the beginning."
