On the heels of yesterday's rumors of a possible sale to Manchester United, Cesc Fabregas has been linked with a move back to Arsenal.

With Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Mesut Ozil, Theo Walcott and a holding midfielder as the presumptive starting options supporting Olivier Giroud (or an upgrade on Giroud), it isn't clear exactly who Cesc would bump from the starting line-up. What is clear is that Arsenal could use some depth more productive than Lukas Podolski, Cesc is a very good player, Wenger knows he can play in his system to great effect, and Arsenal are rumored to have a right of first refusal option should Barcelona decide to sell. Cesc would seem like a luxury purchase with holding midfielder, right back and forward seemingly bigger priorities than another attacking midfielder no matter how good.

Tottenham have signed defender Federico Fazio from Sevilla on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Fazio was highly rated in La Liga, has won two caps for Argentina and won the Europa League with Sevilla last season. The central-defender has been brought in to replace Michael Dawson and will compete with Younes Kaboul and Vlad Chiriches for the right to partner first choice Jan Vertonghen in the heart of the Tottenham back-line.

Alexis Sanchez repaid the majority of his transfer fee when he scored the lone goal of the home and away Champions League qualifying fixture against Besiktas on Wednesday.

It was a nervy time as, for the second time in the two match fixture, Arsenal went down to 10 men as Mathieu Debuchy was sent off for seeing two yellow cards. Before the French international was sent off his fellow new arrival Sanchez scored in first half stoppage time. Sanchez and Debuchy both had chances in the second half to double the lead but neither could convert. After that it was edge-of-seats time as Arsenal defended desperately and eventually saw out a 1-0 win. The theme of the season so far has been "ugly but effective" for Arsenal and that continued today.

The scoreline was misleading as Sunderland struggled for much of the day but scored three late goals to make it look like an easy 3-0 over Birmingham City in the Capital One Cup.

Connor Wickham and Adam Johnson and the entire Sunderland side looked disjointed for much of the Capital One Cup match-up against Birmingham City but Jordi Gomez's goal in the 77th minute sparked them. Johnson (87th) and Wickham (88th) scored rapid fire goals late on to seal the tie for the Black Cats. It won't be one that they can take much from but in a week when Manchester United, Aston Villa, and QPR all went down to lower league opposition they can at least take solace in the fact that they are moving on and in a month no one will remember how they got to the final scoreline.

It wasn't as impressive as Week 1 but Aaron Ramsey continues to churn out the fantasy points even as Arsenal struggle with their attacking form.

With 13 points in the Yahoo format and 9 in the PL.com format, Aaron Ramsey has overcome Arsenal's mediocre attacking start to the season to be a fantasy star. The Welsh midfielder's fast start to the season is far less of a surprise after he took a massive leap forward last season, the only thing he had left to prove was that his performance wasn't a one-year wonder. After two matches, the only question remaining is whether he can stay healthy enough to put together an entire season of excellence.

Nacho Monreal deputized for Kieran Gibbs against Everton in Week 2 and provided one of the few exceptional fantasy performances for the Gunners with 10 points in the Yahoo game and 6 in PL.com.

With relatively few Arsenal players cracking double digits in the Yahoo game, Giroud and Ramsey being the other two, Monreal's performance is worth noting. It is always worth evaluating Arsenal's reserve left back because Kieran Gibbs is injured so frequently. Monreal's performance was strong mostly due to his assist on Olivier Giroud's goal so unless you think Monreal is going to become an assist machine, this probably isn't a performance likely to be replicated.

Nikica Jelavic's Week 2 performance wasn't great but it was the best Hull City could muster in their 1-1 draw with Stoke City.

Breaking double digits in the Yahoo format is a solid barometer that you've had a good fantasy week. Nikica Jelavic can be satisfied that he hit that mark on the strength of his opportunistic opener against the Potters. Where fantasy managers will worry is that he didn't do much else of note during the match. Goals are hard to predict and it's even harder to pick a forward who gets few points other than the goals.

Antonio Valencia showed that he is up to the task of being a right wing back with a strong all-around performance in Week 2 for Manchester United.

One of only two United players in double digits in fantasy in Week 2, Mata was the other, Antonio Valencia had a strong match when it came to the "phantom points" that the Yahoo format gives out. Named a Joel Ward All-Star by the Rotoworld.com Monday Morning Manager for Week 2 for his combination of blocked shots (1), tackles won (6) and passes intercepted (3) this is the sort of performance that can be repeated because it wasn't driven by goals, assists or clean sheets which are harder to predict.

Not ordinarily a fantasy stand-out, Youssouf Mulumbu put up 18 points in the Yahoo format despite only 3 in the PL.com game as West Brom got a clean sheet.

It's hard to say how many clean sheets the Baggies will get this year but if Joel Ward All-Star Youssouf Mulumbu continues to put up great phantom point numbers like he did in Week 2, they'll definitely have more than expected. With eight tackles won, six passes intercepted and a blocked shot he got to 18 fantasy points in the Yahoo format despite not getting credit for the clean sheet as a midfielder and not scoring any attacking-related points. Strong effort from the holding midfielder.

A second scan and further specialist assessments have revealed that Olivier Giroud’s injury is far worse than first feared.

The French striker was "hopeful" post-match on Saturday of making Arsenal’s squad to face Besiktas in this week’s Champions League qualifier but the latest news serves as a huge blow to both the player and the club. Additional tests exposed a hairline fracture of the ankle and the player is now expected to miss the remainder of 2014. With Lukas Podolski and Alexis Sanchez still working on their fitness post-World Cup and Yaya Sanogo dealing with his own injury issues Arsene Wenger must decide whether Joel Campbell is the man to fill the void during this interim period. The summer transfer window will close at 11pm GMT on 1st September 2014.

Hamburg director Dietmar Beiersdorfer has confirmed the club’s interest in Tottenham midfielder Lewis Holtby.

Holtby has never really settled at White Hart Lane and spent the final few months of the last campaign on loan to Fulham. The 23-year-old is determined to get regular first team football this season, but has so far failed to start in the league under Mauricio Pochettino, and with Spurs overloaded with midfield options it could be best for all parties if Holtby was allowed to return to Germany before the transfer window closes on Sunday.

Dwight Gayle scored a first-half hat-trick as Crystal Palace eased past Walsall and into the third round of the Capital One Cup.

This was a much needed confidence booster for the Eagles, who have lost their first two Premier League games and are continuing to struggle without a manager. Gayle has shown moments of class since signing with the club in the summer of 2013 including a brace of goals to derail Liverpool's title challenge back in May, and his hat-trick last night should earn the striker the opportunity to start against Newcastle in Week 3.
