Argentina edged out Bosnia and Hertzegovina 2 - 1 in what was a slow paced and poor match.

Argentina opened up the scoring through a Bosnia own goal in the 5th minute. Lionel Messi doubled their lead in the second half through an incredible individual effort. Outside of Messi's goal, Argentina lacked quality going forward. They only had one true central midfielder in the game and that wasn't enough to control the game against an organized Bosnian team. Argentina will have to improve if they are to be one of the favorites to win this tournament.

Goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon posts some surprisingly good stats despite Sunderland’s dire season…

Another day, another player that north-east rivals Sunderland and Newcastle ‘do battle’ over. The latest is Chelsea’s Marco van Ginkel. The Dutch International – one of a sizeable migration mooted to be flocking towards the Stadium of Light this summer – spent last season on loan at AC Milan and is similarly available again. One battle that has already been won is in goal. Despite both clubs suffering dire seasons, the records of their respective Goalkeepers could scarcely be more different. Sunderland’s Costel Pantilimon’s 11 clean sheets from 28 matches (39%) was only bettered by two in the PL – Arsenal’s David Ospina (another surprise) and Southampton’s Fraser Forster (both 44%). While Newcastle’s Tim Krul came in at the opposite end of the spectrum, returning the PL’s worst goals conceded figures (1.56 per match). With improvement expected, Pantilimon is a Goalkeeper for Fantasy Managers to file under ‘value’.

Michu's career continues on it's downward spiral as Portuguese forward Eder joins Swansea from Sporting Braga on a £5million transfer fee.

With Wilfried Bony never really replaced, Eder arrives from Portugal in hopes of boosting the Swans attack. The linked story indicates that Gary Monk intends to start both Eder and Bafetimbi Gomis together with Andre Ayew supporting but that would be a departure for Swansea if true. When both Bony and Gomis were available early last season Monk tended to play Bony as a lone striker with five midfielders supporting him. Be cautious in your evaluations of Eder as he enters the league.

Angel di Maria can't help but have his confidence boosted after scoring a brace in Argentina's 6-1 thrashing of Paraguay in the semi-finals of the Copa America last night.

After a dire season at Manchester United saw the attacking midfielder's stock drop Louis Van Gaal will be happy to see his wayward attacker among the goals again even if it isn't in the Premier League. Before anyone gets TOO excited though, please note that while Paraguay beat Brazil to get to the semi-final, they are still the 85th ranked team in the world according to FIFA. Di Maria SHOULD be scoring against the 85th ranked team in the world if he has any hope of returning to his best. We'll see where he is once United training resumes.

Lewis Holtby's loan deal with Hamburg has been made permanent after a successful 2014-15 season in the Bundesliga.

Holtby arrived at White Hart Lane with great promise for both Spurs and fantasy managers but it never really materialized. The short tenure of the manager that brought him to North London, Andre Villas-Boas, certainly didn't help. Nor did an only moderately successful loan spell at Fulham that saw the West London club relegated. Hamburg were no great shakes last season either but apparently he showed enough to inspire HSV to make his move permanent.

Matej Vydra helped fire Watford to the Premier League last season with 16 goals and as a reward, the 22-year-old has had his loan made permanent.

The notion of a "permanent" switch between Watford and Udinese is a little odd since the two clubs are both owned by the Pozzo family. Any funds changing hands are probably a little meaningless. What is more important is whether Vydra is ready to make an impact at the Premier League level. He failed to impress for West Brom on loan in the 2013-14 season but has scored 36 goals in two Championship seasons for Watford. Given his youth, it isn't unreasonable to think he could be ready to take a step up along with his side.

Southampton haven't taken too many wrong turns in the transfer market but their biggest ended with the release of Dani/Pablo Osvaldo today.

Osvaldo remains Southampton's record signing and an excellent example of the exception proving the rule. The rule is that Southampton have been very good in the transfer market over the past three or four years. Osvaldo's spectacular failures on and off the pitch are as exceptional a blight on that record as can be imagined. After arriving in England he had loan spells at Juve, Inter and Boca Juniors with the Boca Juniors loan being the only one that was remotely successful. Still, the Saints had to bite the bullet and release him which presumably came with a rather large write off on the books.

Nigel Pearson's abrupt exit from Leicester City yesterday was apparently due, at least in part, to fall out from the incident his son was involved in on the Foxes trip to Thailand.

Pearson's son and two other players were released from the club after an embarrassing video surfaced featuring the three players and a Thai prostitute. Pearson's relationship with the club had been tenuous with the Chairman sacking him in February only to see him reinstated hours later. It seemed all was forgiven after Pearson led a miraculous charge back up the table in the dying weeks of the season and secured an additional season of Premier League football. Apparently, the incident involving Pearson's son and whatever disagreements it raised between the Board and the manager were enough to send the senior Mr. Pearson packing along with his son.

Sunderland have confirmed the signing of Sebastian Coates from Liverpool on a four-year deal…

The 24-year-old centre back spent last season on loan at the Stadium of Light, making 13 appearances. That might not seem many but it is only four fewer than he made in his previous four years at Liverpool. The fee is thought to be in the region of £2 million. Coates will return for pre-season training late, after spending his summer playing Copa America. Born in Montevideo, Coates has 17 caps for Uruguay but has a Scottish father and surname. Although British commentators insist on pronouncing his name a South American sounding, ‘Ko-wah-tez’. His dad calls himself Peter Coates, as in ‘rain-coats’. It’s Sunderland’s first bit of business of the summer but unlikely to be the last, with Dutch Internationals Virgil van Dijk, Jeremain Lens and Leroy Fer all reported to be targets.

On the traditional first day of the summer window in the Premier League, the deal that will see Nathaniel Clyne depart Southampton for Liverpool is officially done.

Liverpool get their man for a reported £10m with an additional £2.5m in incentives that could be paid to the Saints based on the right back's performance. With Glen Johnson having moved on after his contract expired, the starting gig has virtually no competition for the new signing, and fantasy managers should count on seeing his name on Brendan Rodgers' first XI of the season. It shouldn't take long for Clyne to adapt to his new surroundings either - he has former teammates Adam Lallana, Ricky Lambert and Dejan Lovren to welcome him in.

Crystal Palace are in talks with PSG over the proposed £10 million transfer of French International Johan Cabaye…

Talk of a move for the French International has rumbled on for a while, but not it seems negotiations have reached a formal stage. Cabaye joined PSG from Newcastle – then managed by Palace boss Alan Pardew, of course - for £19 million in January 2014. But has struggled to make an impact and started just 13 matches last season. Aged 29 and with the Euros at the end of the coming season, Cabaye will be keen to secure regular first-team action. Palace expect competition though - London rivals Tottenham and West Ham have already declared an interest, plus Southampton are monitoring the situation having resigned themselves to losing Morgan Schneiderlin to Manchester United. It’s been a frustrating summer so far of Pardew and Palace, with interest in Loic Remy, Charlie Austin and Matt Phillips so far fruitless.

Paul Pogba has put his Man City move on ice until the outcome of the Barcelona presidential election…

The Paul Pogba transfer saga looks like rumbling on for at least another few weeks, with Man City being asked to sit tight until the results of Barcelona’s presidential elections on July 18th. The promise of which marquee signing will follow is the chief – perhaps, only – campaigning tool for potential Barca presidents. With both Joan Laporta and Josep Maria Bartomeu promising to sign Pogba. This can’t be good news for City. We know the eye-watering £70 million price tag isn’t a problem, but obviously playing second fiddle to Barca as Pogba’s preferred option might be. Another player on City’s wish list, Kevin De Bruyne has also had a ‘hands off’ notice slapped on him by his club Wolfsburg. With £145 million burning a hole in their collective pocket we can expect a third bid for Raheem Sterling this week.
