Hull City appear close to securing a partner for Curtis Davies with the news that Joleon Lescott will soon agree to a deal with the club.

Hull City's season had it's ups and downs. Up - they secured a second season in the Premier League. Down - despite the perception of a strong season they finished just two places and four points above the relegation spots. Up - they secured a spot in the Europa Cup for their second place finish in the FA Cup. Down - they have to stay up while playing Europa Cup matches next season. Adding a defender of Lescott's pedigree will certainly help with the latter task. He may not be up to Manchester City's high standards but he should be well rested and a significant improvement for Hull City assuming this deal goes through.

Steven Pienaar will miss the start of the Premier League season due to a thigh injury.

Pienaar is currently being assessed and we don't have an estimated return date for him, but he is fully expected to miss the start of the season. Roberto Martinez praised the work Pienaar was doing in pre-season and called it a "shame" for him to get injured at this point. Pienaar didn't play much last year and he'll have a hard time earning a regular spot in the rotation after missing the start of the season. Avoid him in fantasy for the time being.

Ryan Bertrand is hopeful to return before the end of August after undergoing two knee surgeries this summer.

Bertrand was expected to miss five-to-six weeks when the knee surgeries were first announced but he is now hoping to return before the end of August. A return around the 23rd of August, when Southampton face Watford, is possible. He is expected to make a full recovery and be at 100% when he returns. In his absence, Matt Targett will likely get the start.

Andros Townsend is a doubt for week one after suffering a shoulder injury.

Townsend suffered the injury in a behind-closed-doors game but that may not really effect his value much. He's out of favor at Tottenham and probably wasn't going to start in week one regardless of his injury status. The injury could hurt his chances at moving to another team, but we don't know how likely that was in the first place. His former boss, Tim Sherwood, is interested in bringing him to Aston Villa, but we wouldn't touch him in fantasy until a move seems more likely.

Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of Jordan Ayew for an undisclosed fee that's rumored to be in the region of £8.5m.

Ayew has signed a five-year deal with Villa after coming over from French side Lorient. The 23-year-old striker is expected to lead Aston Villa's line this season as the replacement for Christian Benteke and considering Benteke scored or assisted on 49% of Aston Villa's goals last season, Ayew has huge shoes to fill. Ayew is a fantasy option immediately, but considering he scored 12 goals in 31 matches last season, he shouldn't be one to command a very high price.

Raheem Sterling was Manchester City's shining star in their 8-1 win over the Vietnam XI.

Manchester City was in control the entire way and was able to put eight goals in the back of the net. Aleksander Kolarov, David Silva, and Raheem Sterling all scored two a piece and Rony Lopes and Jose Angel Pozo added one each. It was a good warmup for Manchester, who go into the new season without their top striker - Sergio Aguero. Aguero is still on summer break following his participation in the Copa America. Sterling will get a chance to lead his team to a fast start with Aguero missing at least the first week of action.

Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that his South American contingent – Sergio Aguero / Martin Demichelis / Pablo Zabaleta / Fernandinho – look set to miss the opening weekend of the new PL season following their involvement in this summers’ Copa America tournament.

Having played until July – Argentina were beaten finalists – Pellegrini is keen to give his players around a month off ahead of a tough Premier League campaign which means none are expected to return to training until later this week. The quartet could be ready within a fortnight with Chelsea the target at the Etihad [GW2] although starting may be out of the question. City have already been rocked by the news that new signing Fabian Delph – hamstring – is out of the opener, however Yaya Toure will be fine after he returned to Manchester as a precaution – suspected concussion - following a collision with goalkeeper Keylor Navas during Fridays' friendly defeat at the hands of Real Madrid.

Chelsea are reportedly planning to up their £20 million bid for Everton’s John Stones to £26m within the next 48-hrs – and Roberto Martinez looks to have lined up a replacement…

If anyone doubted that money would talk, Chelsea appear set to get their man sooner or later. Roberto Martinez is braced for an increased big of £26m in the next day or two for John Stones. Everton have placed a £34m price tag on the 21-year-old center-back but you suspect would settle for something midway between the two. Meanwhile, £10m of the fee looks to have been allocated to Celtic’s Virgil van Dijk. Martinez acknowledged that his squad was not complete and that central defence is a problem position. But whether the Dutch center-back is a replacement or reinforcement will become clear soon.

Newcastle captain Fabricio Coloccini has not played a single minute of pre-season under new boss Steve McClaren, fueling speculation that his is about to leave for Crystal Palace…

Fabricio Coloccini’s captain’s armband has been shared by Jack Colback and Daryl Janmaat this summer – two (perhaps the only two) who performed anything like their potential last season. Although Coloccini is carrying an Achilles injury, his total absence throughout the pre-season tour and the imminent arrival Anderlecht center-back Chancel Mbemba looks to many as the end of the road for the Argentine. He has just a year on his current contract, so the club would looking to get a fee of around £2m for him and Crystal Palace have already enquired. A move to the capital, first team football and linking up with former boss Pardew and team-mate Yohan Cabaye might prove a tempting cocktail. Particular compared to the bench at Newcastle.

Former Reading goalkeeper Adam Federici was inspired on Saturday as AFC Bournemouth stepped up there preparation for the new Premier League campaign with a hard fought draw against Ligue 1 side Nantes at the Stade de la Beaujoire in France.

Indeed the Cherries’ can feel a little aggrieved to leave with a share of spoils having missed an 87th minute penalty – Matt Ritchie blazed over from 12 yards – although on reflection a draw was a fair result. An established Championship stopper Federici penned a 3 year deal this summer becoming the second goalkeeper signed by Eddie Howe following the permanent capture of Southampton loanee Artur Boruc and it was the absence of the Polish number one – due to a shoulder problem - which afforded Federici his first 90 minutes in a Bournemouth shirt. Although his injury not thought to be serious Boruc is still not training which could open the door for Federici with only 12 days until kick-off.

Norwich have finally secured the signing of Hull winger Robbie Brady, with a medical set to take place in the next 48-hrs…

The long-running Robbie Brady saga – which seems to have ran as long as the Brady Bunch did – has finally come to a successful conclusion. With Norwich and Hull agreeing a fee thought to be around £7m for the winger. The player has agreed terms and will undergo a medical this week. Relations have been strained between the clubs, with Hull boss Steve Bruce labelling bids of £2.5m and £3m as ‘embarrassing’ and ‘insulting’. Hull haven’t budged from their initial £7m valuation for 23-year-old Republic of Ireland international they signed from Manchester United and went on to play over 100 matches for the club. Norwich will be relieved they have finally made a high-profile signing after a frustrating summer and are still in the market for a center-forward, at least.

Manchester United have signed Argentina goalkeeper Sergio Romero.

It seems the Red Devils are getting ready to part ways with David de Gea as they've reached a deal with Romero, who is a free-agent. The 28-year-old goalkeeper has played in Europe before when he won the Eredivisie with AZ Alkmaar in 2009. Reports are suggesting that Romero is signed strictly as a backup and United will try to sign a new goalkeeper if de Gea does indeed leave for Real Madrid, but Romero is likely good enough to fill in the starting role if United can't sign another goalkeeper. If he finds himself with the starting goalkeeper role, he immediately becomes a top fantasy choice at goalkeeper.
