Brazil and Mexico displayed end to end action virtually the entire match but defending and especially goalkeeping was the order of the day as the two countries play to a 0-0 final.

The name on everyone's lips having seen this match is Mexican keeper Guillermo Ochoa, who's performance will not soon be forgotten, making countless saves from point blank range like a comic book superhero. Brazil's Julio Cesar made a couple of great saves as well as the two sides put on as entertaining a 0-0 affair as one can ever imagine. Paulinho was a peripheral figure and it wouldn't be surprising to see a shakeup in the XI when Brazil plays Cameroon - a match that would have been a formality to advancing had they won as expected today but now they must clamp down and take care of business.

Sources from within Manchester United say the club will decide next week on whether Paul Pogba requires surgery to repair his damaged left hamstring.

Officially there has no definitive timeline announced and in response to growing media speculation of an extended period on the sidelines for the France international, Jose Mourinho had this to say: "Any comment, view or rumour is totally wrong, because we do not know if it is 12 weeks or 12 days." The United boss then went on to add [before the trip to Southampton]: "I have no idea [when he will be back]. So, I’m not going to cry or be counting the days, not at all." However, reports suggest that the club have been in touch with Finnish muscle repair specialist Sakari Orava with a decision set to be made about whether or not surgery is required. If the midfielder was to go under the knife, then Pogba could potentially be out of action for around three months.

Oumar Niasse, who almost left Everton in the summer, came in from the cold to score twice as Everton got their second league win of the season.

The teams went in level at the interval after the first half featured no attacking event of note. That said, Simon Francis will be grateful that he was not reprimanded by the referee for elbowing Wayne Rooney in the face. Rooney underwent length treatment and emerged for the second half stitched up. Josh King put the visitors ahead just after the break with a fine finish from 20 yards and Everton were fortunate not to concede again instantly when Pickford saved from Defoe. The Toffees' lack of focal point up front was clear but Niasse provided it when he came off the bench after the hour mark, notching up his first PL goal for Everton with a powerful finish. He grabbed his second 5 minutes later, finishing on the second attempt after Begovic parried his header. A huge win for Ronald Koeman's side.

Alvaro Morata is surely going to the apple of fantasy manager's eye in the upcoming week after a hat-trick on Saturday.

Morata led the way for Chelsea to bring the club into third place on 13 points in a 4-0 win against Stoke City. The Real Madrid product, who is now joint-top of the goalscoring charts with six goals, opened the scoring in the first 90 seconds after latching onto a pass over the top of the defense from Cesar Azpilicueta. After Pedro doubled the Blues' lead in the 30th, Morata had to wait until the 77th minute to score his second, after beating two defenders down the left and chipping the keeper. Just five minutes later, the Spaniard added his third after Azpilicueta passed across the box for Morata's tap-in.

Stoke City endured a week to forget following a blowout 4-0 loss to Chelsea at home on Saturday afternoon.

The club has lost all three of its matches this week, following a League Cup loss to Bristol City and last weekend's defeat to Newcastle, and is in the middle of a five-match winless streak during a horrid September. The Potters could only manage two shots on goal against Chelsea, who piled it on late with two goals in the final 15 minutes from hat-trick hero Alvaro Morata. Morata tore apart the Stoke defense, evident on his first two goals when he sprinted away from the Stoke defense before finishing daftly past Jack Butland. The loss means the Potters still sit two points above the relegation zone.

Romelu Lukaku scored his sixth Premier League goal in six games, providing the one goal cushion for Manchester United's 1-0 win away to Southampton.

Manchester United were good value for their first half lead. They moved the ball with fluidity and confidence whilst Southampton failed to muster an attack of note. Romelu Lukaku gave United the lead after 20 minutes. Ashley Young, who started at left back, created some space and sent a cross into the box. Forster saved Lukaku's initial effort with his head but the Belgian made no mistake when the rebound came to him. Rashford also went close in the opening half with a free-kick fizzing past the post. Aside from one Lukaku chance created by Mkhitaryan, Southampton had all the opportunities in the second half but their poor goalscoring record at home continued - Long and Romeu in particular had chances but failed to convert. United didn't play near their potential but clung on for three points.

Manchester City is getting used to blowing out its opposition following a 5-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The win means that Manchester City retains its spot atop the table with Manchester United while outscoring its opponents 16-0 in the last three Premier League matches. However, the Sky Blues could only manage one goal in the first half, a skillful strike from Leroy Sane, who also added two assists, in the 44th minute. But after the break, it was all over: Raheem Sterling added two goals as substitute in the 51st and 59th, Sergio Aguero continued his scoring roll with a goal in the 79th minute and Fabian Delph rocketed a strike from outside the box in the 89th.

Despite the arrival of Roy Hodgson, nothing seems to have changed for Crystal Palace this season.

Palace suffered its worst loss of the season on Saturday at the Etihad, a 5-0 loss to league-leading Manchester City. The Eagles also became the only Premier League club, and one of three clubs in all four divisions in English Football League history, to go goalless in its first six matches to start a season. Palace couldn't even muster a shot on goal against City despite holding the club to just one goal in the first 45 minutes. But the floodgates opened in the second half with Raheem Sterling scoring two and Sergio Aguero adding another.

West Ham United found themselves down by three goals with only a half hour to play and managed to make a game of it, but would fall short in the end to Tottenham, 2-3.

It was a lively atmosphere in the stadium in support of the Hammers in the opening half hour, but the mood dampened when Michail Antonio with what appeared to be a groin injury and had to be replaced by Andy Carroll. Soon after, West Ham's defense was breached twice in quick succession, both times by Harry Kane. The match looked done and dusted when Spurs went up by three on the hour mark but Chicharito was able to pull one back five minutes later, scoring from a rebound when Jose Fonte headed an Aaron Cresswell corner on target. The tide began to turn from there, as Spurs gave the home side a man advantage with twenty minutes to play. Substitute Arthur Masuaku sent a cross that was headed home powerfully by Cheikhou Kouyate with three minutes and added time to go. Unfortunately for the Hammers, most of that remaining time was spent getting into dust ups with Tottenham players and a possible penalty shout when Carroll was elbowed in the back went unchecked.

It was an auspicious beginning to Serge Aurier's Tottenham career as the right wing back picked up a second yellow card and an early shower and Spurs nearly squandered a 0-3 advantage over West Ham United but managed to hang on for a 2-3 win.

There were some positives with Aurier's debut, particularly an adept tackle on Marko Arnautovic when the game was goalless in the opening 20 minutes, but he was lacking discipline and it nearly led to a Tottenham collapse. Spurs took the lead in the 35th minute when Harry Kane scored on a diving header from a Dele Alli cross. Just two minutes later, Alli would help again, with his blocked shot landing in Kane's path and the striker smashed it home. It was then three goals up for Spurs when Christian Eriksen scored on an errant clearance. West Ham would pull one back and after Aurier was sent off on 70 minutes, the Hammers soon grabbed another, but Tottenham hang on for the derby win and stay perfect on the road.

Chelsea have been handed a double boost with the news that Pedro and Tiemoue Bakayoko will be available for Saturday's visit from Stoke City.

Pedro has recovered from an ankle which force him to be withdrawn at half-time against Arsenal on Sunday, while Bakayoko has been declared fit after the midfielder was involved in a car accident on Thursday. Danny Drinkwater will miss out as he continues to recover from a calf and David Luiz will serve the first game of his three-match ban, but Eden Hazard could be given his first league start of the campaign. The Belgian recorded two assists and played 90 minutes in the 5-1 Carabao Cup win over Nottingham Forest in midweek. Should Antonio Conte decide to name either Pedro or Hazard to the substitute's bench, then Willian could make the starting XI.

Christian Fuchs will be fit to face Liverpool on Saturday after recovering from a "freak" eye injury he picked up in training.

Manager Craig Shakespeare confirmed Fuchs will be available for selection after he was given the "all clear" by an eye specialist and trained all week with no ill effects. Fuchs, who is entrenched as the starting left-back, will resume his place against Liverpool on Saturday. This weekend however the Austria international's fantasy value is best tailored to formats that reward peripheral metrics, considering a clean sheet will be a tough ask against the Reds potent attack.
