With the Luis Suarez transfer saga still making headlines, Liverpool have been linked with more attacking talent in the form of Lazar Markovic and Divock Origi.

If Liverpool are going to lose Luis Suarez, then they aren't going for stopgap measures to replace him. They are continuing to look to young players with very high ceilings as they start spending the Suarez transfer fee before it is confirmed. The latest two targets rumored to be close to a move are Serbian winger/forward Lazar Markovic and Belgium forward/World Cup sensation Divock Origi. Markovic (20) and Origi (19) are both poised to be exceptional talents but neither seem terribly likely to replace much of the production lost if Suarez goes to Barcelona. Reports indicate that Origi would be loaned back to Lille as part of the transfer deal. Sounds like a replacement in his prime is also in order if Liverpool are to keep their spot in the top four and challenge for the league title again this season.

When Jonny Evans went down with a hamstring strain against Swansea in Week 24, Tony Pulis chose to use Craig Gardner rather than James Chester despite Chester being the only recognized center back on the bench.

Things have gone horribly wrong for James Chester since his arrival at the Hawthorns over the summer. Acquiring Chester wasn't cheap but given Tony Pulis' penchant for starting three or even four center backs across the back line, it was easy to see a path to Chester getting significant playing time even after Jonny Evans was also acquired. Since then though, Chester has apparently fallen further and further down the pecking order at the Hawthorns to the point where he isn't even getting the call when he's the only center back available. Expect a summer move away.

Chris Brunt joins James Morrison and Jonny Evans on the sidelines as West Brom travel to Newcastle in Week 25 Premier League action.

The combined absence of Brunt and Morrison is bad news for a West Brom side that has had significant trouble generating a meaningful attack this season. Tony Pulis isn't known for free-flowing football but at least some attacking capability is required to actually win matches. Perhaps the absences in midfield will motivate Pulis to return Saido Berahino to the starting line-up.

Kevin Mbabu has returned to the Newcastle United squad following a thigh injury that saw him sit out the month of January, and may need to step in immediately as an emergency left back.

It looks like it could be out of the frying pan and into the fire for the young Mbabu. Steve McClaren either needs to ask Mbabu to step into the role or call upon a midfielder to drop back into the position. Mbabu will surely want the chance at playing time, no matter the circumstances, but though he is back with the squad, he missed a considerable amount of time and McClaren may need to make a tough call on what to do. Either way, it is a boost in fantasy for West Brom attacking players when they vist St. James' Park tomorrow.

Phil Jones is getting close to a return but won't be back in time to ease Manchester United's defensive injury crisis for their match with Chelsea.

With Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw, Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young all missing for sure, Manchester United will be happy to get Phil Jones back as cover in the near future. He won't be ready for the Chelsea match which should see a quartet of Borthwick-Jackson, Smalling, Blind, and Darmian get the start. The issue is that depth behind those four is perilously thin and Red Devils have been dropping like flies this season.

Marouane Fellaini's ability to feature on Sunday against Chelsea is in question after he picked up a knock against Stoke City in midweek.

Manchester United just can't buy a break when it comes to injuries this season. The defense is decimated and the holding midfield spots have seen Michael Carrick, Bastian Schweinsteiger, and Morgan Schneiderlin trade off injuries for much of the season. Now comes news that Marouane Fellaini has joined the parade of potential injuries after picking up a knock in mid-week. If Fellaini can't go then expect Carrick and Schneiderlin, the only two healthy options, to start against Chelsea.

Etienne Capoue has been a rock for Watford this season but he will have to race against time to recover from illness in time to feature at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

A visit to high-flying Spurs will require Watford to be at their best and the potential absence of former Spurs man Capoue or Capoue operating at something less than full health could be a problem. Watford's strategy is based on a sound defense supported by opportunistic attacking and Capoue has been at the center of that. If he is absent or diminished it seems unlikely that the Hornets have the attacking firepower to get anything from a match at the Lane.

Record signing Gianelli Imbula has been officially registered and could get his first start for the Potters against Everton in Week 25.

And not a moment too soon. With Ryan Shawcross, Geoff Cameron and Marc Wilson all out for sure and Philipp Wollscheid facing a late fitness test, Stoke City need reinforcements against the high-scoring Toffees. Cameron and Wilson have both spent time in the holding midfield role that Imbula is expected to occupy and with the starting central pairing potentially both out, he will need to adapt quickly to help the Potters get a result. This won't be an easy test with Everton scoring freely this season and Stoke City having conceded three in mid-week to previously goal-shy Manchester United.

Philipp Wollscheid is questionable for Week 25 with a calf injury and will join Ryan Shawcross, Marc Wilson and Geoff Cameron on the sidelines if he can't recover in time.

Stoke City will be improvising at the back no matter what happens this weekend with Geoff Cameron, Marc Wilson and Ryan Shawcross all confirmed as out. If Philipp Wollschied can overcome his calf injury to feature then the Potters won't have to scramble too much with Marc Muniesa likely deputizing for Shawcross and partnering Wollscheid. If Wollscheid can't make it then the Potters will be scrambling for cover. They ended last weekend's match against Manchester United with three outside backs (Pieters, Johnson and Bardsley) and only one real center back. That's no way to line up against Everton's attack.

Jonny Evans joins a growing list of injuries for West Brom as the Baggies continue to drop down the table.

When Evans departed against Swansea in mid-week with a hamstring injury, it was Craig Gardner who replaced him in the center of the Baggies' defense. With James Chester apparently lodged firmly in Tony Pulis' doghouse, it seems likely that Gardner will get at least a couple of starts with Evans on the sidelines. A trip to St. James' Park should provide a fairly easy re-entry into a starting role for Gardner.

Paul Dummett will miss Newcastle United's match with West Bromwich Albion tomorrow as the defender has failed to recover from a hamstring injury.

The injury bug strikes yet again for the Magpies, and this is a real worry. Having just come back this past midweek from a muscle problem, Dummett now has a hamstring issue. Jack Colback is still out and further compounding the issue, Jamaal Lascelles, who filled in for the role two weeks back, is suspended for the weekend. Steve McClaren will have to call upon Kevin Mbabu, assuming he is fit himself. If not, then a midfielder will have to drop back, with Rolando Aarons the most likely candidate. With Chacel Mbemba ruled out as well, it could present the Baggies a chance to have a big day on the attack.
Feb 5 - 12:20 PM

Newcastle United have been dealt yet another major injury blow as starting center back Chancel Mbemba will miss tomorrow's match against West Bromwich Albion with an ankle issue, and likely miss further time.

Mbemba is to have a scan on his ankle which will determine exactly how much time he will be expected to miss, with early speculation suggesting it could be a month's time. Lucky for the Magpies, Steven Taylor is fit and ready to step in and partner Fabricio Collocini. That is it for the good news of the situation. The bad news is, they have no true left back to use this weekend, with Massadio Haidara, Paul Dummett, Jack Colback and even Jamaal Lascelles out with injuries or suspension. Steve McClaren focused his January shopping on the front six, perhaps a defender should have been a higher priority. They are down to youth academy players for backup.
