Serie A club Roma have signed former Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole on a two-year deal.

Ashley Cole's contract with Chelsea expired this summer and the left-back will not be returning after losing his starting job to Cesar Azpilicueta last year. The 33 year old has decided to join Italian club AC Roma on a free transfer. Cole should have enough left in the tank to be the starting left-back at Roma and could be a big piece of that team. He provides speed down the flank and enough experience to compete at any level.

Charlie Taylor is poised for his first Premier League start after Stephen Ward picked up a knee injury.

Sean Dyche could be forced into a defensive switch ahead of the Clarets trip to Brighton after Ward, an ever present this season, was forced off in the 41st minute at Turf Moor on Tuesday night. Although the full extent of the problem is not yet known, with such a quick turnaround between games, the 32-year-old is considered a major doubt with former Leeds United full-back Taylor being readied following his first taste of Premier League action in the win over Stoke. Ben Mee [knee laceration] and Matt Lowton [knee ligament] could also come back into reckoning but given the performances of Kevin Long and Phil Bardsley in recent matches [back-to-back clean sheets], the Burnley boss would be happy to err on the side of caution with a glut of games coming up.

Daniel Sturridge is a doubt to make the squad for Liverpool's Week 17 match against West Bromwich Albion with a hamstring issue.

Sturridge has not featured in Liverpool's last three league games and only once in the last six. Jurgen Klopp has deemed the forward's hamstring problem a "minor thing" but Sturridge has not trained. Dominic Solanke seems to be pushing his way up the depth chart and Danny Ings finally made his first league appearance over the weekend. Meanwhile, rumors continue to swirl about a January exit for Sturridge. With the progression of Solanke and Ings, that rumor could very well prove true.

Mo Salah is at risk of dropping out of the starting XI against West Bromwich Albion after Jurgen Klopp confirmed the in-form winger was withdrawn from the Merseyside derby as a precaution.

The Liverpool boss has faced a lot of flak, in particular about his team selection, in the aftermath of Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Everton. Following a raft of changes, which included dropping the likes of Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho, Liverpool failed to turn their dominance into goals and Wayne Rooney snatched an unlikely point from the penalty spot. And facing further questions about the game during Tuesday’s press conference, Klopp revealed: "I took Mo off because he had a hamstring a little bit," before adding. "He [was] close to being injured." Although Salah is expected to be okay, Klopp may decide to err on the side of caution ahead of a busy Festive fixture programme, and freshen his side with a number of options at his disposal.

Watford have a number of concerns heading into this weekends’ game against Huddersfield Town.

Winless in four, the Hornets squad is beginning to look a little stretched as injuries and suspensions begin to take its toll on Marco Silva’s side. Having already lost Marvin Zeegelaar for three-games after his sending off against Burnley, the full-back will be joined by Tom Cleverley who is banned after receiving two yellow cards in the defeat to Crystal Palace. Kiko Femenia is a doubt after limping off at Selhurst Park. Silva also flagged Richarlison as a potential risk, due to fatigue, prior to the game on Tuesday, and those concerns look to have come to fruition as the young Brazilian picked up an apparent groin problem. Miguel Britos [lower leg injury] is hoping to recover for GW18 but Nathaniel Chalobah, Younes Kaboul and Will Hughes will be lucky to play again in 2017.

Crystal Palace completed a late late turnaround to beat Watford 2-1 at Selhurst Park.

The game couldn't have started any better for the Hornets, who grabbed an early lead through full-back Daryl Janmaat assisted by fantasy football darling Richarlison. That was the Brazilian's eighth goal contribution in an away game in the PL this term. Watford looked to be heading towards three points up until the 87th minute when Tom Cleverley was sent off. Just a couple of minutes later Bakary Sako bundled in and then James MacArthur slid in to convert a cross by Zaha to complete the comeback.

Huddersfield Town saw its struggles return with a 3-1 loss to a dominant Chelsea side at Stamford Bridge.

After a win against Brighton that saw the club's four-match losing streak come to an end, Huddersfield saw its struggles return with a trip to West London. The Terriers fell behind in the 23rd minute and found themselves down two goals at half-time with Willian proving hard to stop—the Brazilian burned Huddersfield for a goal and two assists. It was 3-0 by the 50th minute, and Huddersfield could only manage a consolation goal in the 92nd minute thanks to Laurent Depoitre's header for his second goal of the season.

Stoke City saw a crucial point slip away in the final minutes of a 1-0 loss at Burnley on Tuesday evening.

The loss is the Potters' fourth defeat in their last five matches, which could see them drop them down into 17th place depending on Wednesday night's results. Stoke held tight for most of the match, forcing Burnley keeper Nick Pope into seven saves including a last-second reaction that could have seen Stoke steal a point on the road. But even with the reinvigorated Peter Crouch starting up top, Mark Hughes' side continued to struggle despite their favorable schedule. Next up for the Potters: West Ham at home over the weekend.

Don't look now, but Sean Dyche has the Clarets in fourth place following a 1-0 win against Stoke City on Tuesday.

Despite a slew of injuries—Tom Heaton, Robbie Brady and Ben Mee were among the absentees—and an injury to Stephen Ward in the 41st minute, Burnley found a way to win thanks to Ashley Barnes' 89th-minute goal. The second-half substitute teamed up with Scott Arfield around the penalty area and fired a shot past Jack Butland to bring Burnley into fourth place on 31 points, although after Wednesday's results the club could be back down in seventh.

Craig Dawson has been out since late October with a knee injury but could return in some capacity against Liverpool in Week 17 Premier League action.

It shouldn't be a huge surprise that West Brom has struggled mightily in the absence of Dawson who has been one of their stalwarts in the center of defense over his tenure at the club. The departure of Tony Pulis has likely shifted the tactical approach but regardless of the approach, the Baggies will be in better shape having Dawson to anchor the defense rather than deputy Allan Nyom. Given the length of layoff, expect Dawson to be eased back into the line-up. Perhaps a substitute appearance against Liverpool and then a start in Week 18 if all goes well.

Aaron Ramsey has been in fine form but, as so often has happened with the Welshman, his fine form has been interrupted by a soft tissue injury.

Ramsey came off of the 1-1 draw with Southampton with a hamstring injury and it isn't yet clear how long it will keep him on the sidelines but Week 17 at the London Stadium will certainly come too soon. It isn't unreasonable, given Ramsey's history, to assume that he'll also miss Week 18 and possibly Week 19 as well as he recovers. Arsenal are fortunate to have a reserve the quality of Jack Wilshere to deputize for Ramsey while he recovers.

Glen Johnson will miss Stoke City's trip to Turf Moor as he continues to recover from a knee injury.

With Glen Johnson still on the mend with a knee injury, Mark Hughes turned to youngster Thomas Edwards against Spurs over the weekend. The results were not good as the Potters conceded five goals. With Johnson still out for the mid-week match against Burnley, Hughes will either have to field Edwards again or revert to Mame Biram Diouf as a wingback again after moving him further forward at Wembley. Either way, the score is unlikely to be as lopsided against the Clarets due to their style of play but conceding even one may be more than the Potters can afford to concede at Turf Moor.
