Rio Ferdinand has taken to Twitter to announce that his move to Queens Park Rangers has become official today.

Here's hoping that the QPR Board drove down the cost of the pay packet before signing on the dotted line but Harry Redknapp has another former big name for his collection in the form of Rio Ferdinand. The former best defender in the Premier League struggled to make a contribution at Old Trafford last season and was out of contract as a result. If used judiciously by Redknapp maybe he can be a valuable third center back but it seems likely he's being paid like a starter. Aren't there better places 'arry could have used this money?

Celtic Football Club have announced that they have secured the signing of Manchester United defender Tyler Blackett on loan for the 2015-16 season.

Celtic, out of the Champions League group stages after a play-off loss and facing the departure of Virgil van Dijk, have moved to secure their central defense with the signing of Blackett from the Red Devils. Blackett was a surprise when injuries forced him into the starting line-up at Old Trafford sooner than anyone would ever have expected. With United's fitness likely better this season, the move to Celtic Park to get first team opportunities makes sense for everyone involved.

Raheem Sterling got his first goal for Manchester City from a Bacary Sagna assist as the league leaders beat Watford 2-0 at the Etihad.

It was a frustrating first half as City attacked but couldn't get off the mark with Sterling going close and other chances just not coming together. The second half started much differently with Sagna and Sterling hooking up within 90 seconds of the restart for City's first goal. Fernandinho followed-up not long afterward with his second of the season from a David Silva assist.

Heurelho Gomes and the Watford defense made a valiant effort for the first half but couldn't keep the City attack at bay for the entire 90 minutes and capitulated at the Etihad in Week 4 action.

Gomes was called upon frequently in the first half as Watford parked the bus in an attempt to frustrate Manchester City. It worked for 45 minutes as the teams went into halftime scoreless but it didn't last as Manchester City came storming out almost immediately after the second half kick-off. Bacary Sagna's cross put Raheem Sterling in and Gomes had no chance to stop him for the opener in the 47th minute. Fernandinho crushed a drive past Gomes in the 56th minute and that was the end of the scoring as City cruised to a 2-0 victory.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain didn't get credit for the goal but he caused it to go in off of Fabricio Coloccini for the only goal in Arsenal's 1-0 win against Newcastle at St. James' Park.

For the second week in a row, Arsenal were on the wrong end of an official's call as Hector Bellerin wasn't awarded a penalty after being tripped in the box by Florian Thauvin. The Gunners did get some luck when Oxlade-Chamberlain's second half shot deflected slightly off of Coloccini and found it's way into the far corner for a much-needed goal. The Gunners started with Theo Walcott in place of Olivier Giroud as a center forward and were missing Mesut Ozil but the attack didn't look much more fluid than it had in the first three weeks as the Gunners continue to struggle to start the season.

Fabricio Coloccini added to Newcastle's difficult start to the season with an own goal as Newcastle dropped a decision at home to Arsenal in Week 4 action.

Aleksandar Mitrovic was the player who really got the action going when he was shown a straight red card in the 16th minute. The call might have been a bit harsh but the player has already carved out a reputation for himself in English football after picking up yellow cards by the bunch early in his Magpies career. After the dismissal, Steve McClaren's men had trouble mounting any danger and mostly contented themselves with keeping Arsenal out. When Coloccini's deflection ruined that plan it was always going to end with an Arsenal win.

After seeing yellow within moments of being introduced in his first two Newcastle matches, Mitrovic upped the ante to a red card after 16 minutes in Week 4.

Newcastle supporters would certainly argue that calling Mitrovic's studs-up challenge a straight red card was probably harsh. He wasn't particularly out of control nor did there appear any chance that he was intentionally trying to injure with the challenge. Still, once you forge a reputation as he has so far since his arrival, you are going to have to live with it and you can't blame an official for being on the lookout for bad behavior from Mitrovic and then over-reacting to it when it inevitably happened. Papiss Cisse should be restored to the starting line-up with Mitrovic suspended.

David De Gea will continue to watch on from afar as Manchester United attempts to decide his short and long term fate. Sergio Romero will deputize again at the Liberty Stadium.

As the David De Gea saga rolls on, the logic that Manchester United are employing to decide what their next move becomes less and less clear. They aren't getting any immediate benefit out of one of the best players on their roster. They, and specifically Louis Van Gaal, seem to be straining the relationship thereby reducing the chances that De Gea's heart will be in it if he does end up staying. At the same time, United seem like they are content to let the keeper stay only to lose him on a free next summer. Maybe there's a strategic plan that none of us are seeing but it surely isn't obvious and whatever it is had better work because United will look terrible if it doesn't.

Marcos Rojo will make the squad for a Premier League match for the first time this season as United travel to Wales for a Week 4 match against last season's tormentors Swansea.

Marcos Rojo sure took his time recovering from his Copa America experience over the summer. While other participants who went just as far in the tournament have been back for a couple of weeks, Rojo is just now rounding into match fitness. With Chris Smalling looking very good and Daley Blind seemingly entrenched at the other center back spot (and United having yet to concede in the league), Rojo will likely have to wait his turn now that he is fit. Not exactly what you'd expect from a high profile transfer in last summer.

Gael Clichy's prognosis had been a bit murky thus far but Manuel Pelligrini clarified this week that the left back would be out another six or seven weeks.

While this is bad news for Clichy and fans of depth at the left back position, it is great for Aleksandar Kolarov and everyone who took a risk on picking him up in fantasy leagues. By no means a sure starter, Kolarov has been the most productive defender in most formats thus far with three clean sheets and a goal to his credit as well as a bundle of peripheral stats. Another nearly two months of starts will be a huge bonus for managers who might have been getting nervous at the potential return of last season's regular starter.

The newly signed Nicholas Otamendi remains unavailable as he awaits his work permit after signing with Manchester City.

Eliaquim Mangala owners will be happy that their man has received an administrative stay of execution (or at least benching) as Otamendi's lack of work permit will mean that the France international will continue to start alongside Vincent Kompany at the heart of City's defense. With Watford, City's Week 4 opponent, not having scored in their past two matches there is every chance that City and Mangala will put up a fourth consecutive clean sheet to start the season.

Newly signed Ola Toivonen will be immediately welcomed into the Sunderland squad and may even get a start in his first week at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland are looking for answers and Toivonen has been brought in to potentially be one of those answers. Jermain Defoe has been Jermain Defoe and Jeremain Lens has been an assist machine so far but the Black Cats need more at just about every position if they are to avoid the relegation race. Exactly where Swedish international Toivonen fits remains to be seen. As an attacking midfielder, his goal record in Holland was exceptional but when viewed more as a forward his production in the Eredivisie and Ligue 1 wasn't anything special. His debut, either as a substitute or a starter, deserves some attention to see where he fits and whether he looks to be ready to compete in the Premier League after only registering 14 goals in 46 appearances for Rennes over a season and a half.
