"With the imminent departure of Paulinho", said Corinthians president Mario Gobbi Filho.

Paulinho, who scored Brazil's match-winner today against Uruguay, has been linked to Spurs (and would likely make Tom Huddlestone and/or Scott Parker surplus to requirements). But Real Madrid could swoop in a scuttle the deal. Evidently, we'll know soon enough. After the weekend's Confederations' Cup final most likely.

Crystal Palace is slowly running out of time to figure things out under new manager Sam Allardyce after another loss.

The Eagles put together a valiant effort against a streaking Everton side, holding Romelu Lukaku and company scoreless until the 87th minute. But they'll look back on the last five minutes of the match with frustration as one counter-attack was all Everton needed to take three points from Selhurst Park after Seamus Coleman scored off a through ball from Tom Davies less than three minutes shy of stoppage time. Loic Remy received his first Premier Leauge start alongside Christian Benteke, but it wasn't enough to jumpstart a Palace attack that has gone goalless in three of the club's last four league matches.

AFC Bournemouth bounced back from going behind twice to grab a 2-2 draw at home to Watford.

Lewis Cook returned to the Cherries' starting line-up while Steve Cook and Tyrone Mings started in the centre of defence as Bournemouth await the return of the still-suspended Simon Francis. Kabasele stuck the Hornets in front after Britos headed a corner aimed at the far-post back into the six-yard box. Bournemouth were rejuvenated by their half-time team talk by Eddie Howe after a languid first-half display and equalised through Josh King, who got on the end of Adam Smith's cross. Smith did brilliantly to create the chance, marauding down the right flank. Watford retook the lead against the run of play through Deeney. Poor defending by Bournemouth gifted him the opportunity to flick the ball beyond Boruc after another corner. Afobe took advantage of Kabasele's cramp to find space and fire powerfully past Gomes to make the tie even again and that was how it finished.

Andy Carroll scored twice and Jonathan Calleri netted in stoppage time as West Ham United moved into 10th with a 3-1 win over Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday.

After scoring a stunning scissor-kick goal against Crystal Palace last weekend, Andy Carroll once again was the hero for West Ham. Carroll headed home with conviction on nine minutes and then slammed in a rebound from close range to erase Cristhian Stuani's equalizer just before halftime. While the Hammers added a third through substitute Jonathan Calleri in stoppage time, Slaven Bilic's side dodged a bullet in the 65th-minute when Stuani deflected an Aaron Cresswell clearance off the bar. With Dimitri Payet likely to remain absent while his future at West Ham is sorted out, Carroll could not be hitting form at a better time. The English striker has now scored three goals in his last two appearances, and five goals since returning from injury nine matches ago.

Middlesbrough saw their winless streak extend to five matches as they were defeated 3-1 by West Ham United at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday.

It was an exciting affair at the Riverside, but a disappointing result for Aitor Karanka's Middlesbrough. West Ham began the match as the better side and took the lead after nine minutes when Andy Carroll beat out Bernardo Espinosa to head home a Mark Noble corner. While Boro responded with offensive pressure and found an equalizer through Cristhian Stuani, Carroll restored West Ham's lead just before halftime. After the restart the Smoggies continued to push and came close to leveling the match during a scramble in the penalty area, as Aaron Cresswell's clearance attempt knocked off Stuani and rang against the bar. However, in the end, the home side was caught out and broken when Jonathan Calleri netted in stoppage time with the help of a heavy deflection off Adam Clayton. The defeat leaves Middlesbrough in 16th, and just four points above the drop zone.

Darren Fletcher and Chris Brunt scored within six minutes of each other as West Brom continued their strong form with a 2-0 home win over Sunderland.

Winning at home against Sunderland is pretty much expected in the Premier League these days. West Brom made easy work of it scoring twice in the first half through a fantastic Darren Fletcher volley and a rebound from Chris Brunt. Up 2-0 it was fairly easy work as David Moyes' side capitulated yet again.

Sunderland continue to sink after a 2-0 loss to West Brom along with a shocking Swansea win at Anfield.

With the financial situation apparently dire at the Stadium of Light this might just be the season the Black Cats can't escape the drop. Once Tony Pulis' side scored it felt almost preordained that Sunderland were going to lose. With Hull City and Swansea both showing signs of life and making new signings it could be an ugly second half of the season for Moyes and the Black Cats.

Kyle Walker was at the center of attention as Tottenham Hotspur clawed back from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Manchester City on Saturday.

Despite a pair of blunders by Hugo Lloris that resulted in Spurs trailing 2-0 with a little over a half-an-hour remaining, the central figure of the match will go down as Kyle Walker. While Walker supplied a superb right-wing cross on Dele Alli's emphatic header to cut the deficit in half, the defender was lucky to have escaped a red card moments before substitute Son Heung-Min completed the comeback on 77 minutes. Just a minute before Spurs leveled the match, Walker shoved Raheem Sterling off balance prior to the City man's 1v1 strike on Lloris. As if the missed call wasn't enough action, Spurs dodged an additional bullet when later City substitute Gabriel Jesus's headed goal was flagged offside. The nervy draw leaves Tottenham in second, six points behind Chelsea.

Pep Guardiola's Saturday was spoiled by a controversial no call as Manchester City drew 2-2 with Tottenham at the Etihad.

In an attempted to bounce back from last week's 4-0 defeat at Everton, Guardiola's decision to field an attacking starting XI paid off after a scoreless first half. Manchester City took the lead on 49 minutes and doubled their advantage just five minutes, with Leroy Sane and Kevin De Bruyne scoring goals thanks to a pair of blunders by Hugo Lloris. With the fixture seemly in City's favor, controversy struck after Spurs pulled one back when Dele Alli headed Kyle Walker’s stellar cross home. Somehow, referee Andre Marriner did not award a penalty when Walker shoved Raheem Sterling with the winger in on a 1v1—with the result a Heung-Min Son equalizer for Spurs just a minute later. While debutant Gabriel Jesus appeared to right the wrong when he headed home just 60 seconds after being introduced off the bench, his goal was judged offside. The bitter draw City leaves them in fifth, on 43 points.

Jose Holebas will be suspended for Watford's next two domestic matches.

Fortunately for the Hornets, the Greek will only miss one PL game - the GW23 clash with Arsenal on Tuesday January 31. The other half of the suspension will be served on Sunday 29th January as Watford meet Millwall in the FA Cup fourth round. Holebas' yellow against Bournemouth came after a foul on Jack Wilshere. While fantasy managers have enjoyed quite a few attacking returns from him, his status as a "card magnet" is grating for many.

Juan Mata had a day to forget as United were held by Stoke in a physical encounter at the Bet365 Stadium.

United applied pressure consistently but Stoke proved to be up to the task as they dealt a blow to United's title ambitions. United were forced to start without Marcos Rojo through illness with Smalling coming in. Fellaini also started in place of Carrick. Stoke grabbed the lead against the run of play after Mata touched a Pieters cross past his own goalkeeper. Minutes later, Mata had a howler as he somehow skied from close range after Ibra teed him up. As the game proceeded, United created many chances, but Lee Grant saved well from the best of those attempts from Fellaini and Pogba. Lingard hit the post and United were unlucky not to be awarded a few close range free-kicks and had penalty appeals turned down. Like many matches this season, they left it late to get their breakthrough. It was sub Wayne Rooney who smashed in an injury time free-kick from the left to become United's top-scorer on 250.

Everton waited until the end to steal three points from Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park thanks to Seamus Coleman.

The right-back rummaged down the wing, where youth star Tom Davies found the Irish international with a through ball. Coleman collected himself and fired a shot past Crystal Palace goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey for the match-winner, his fourth goal of the season, in the 87th minute make it three wins on the trot for the Toffees and five straight Premier League matches without a loss. For once, Everton didn't need the help of Romelu Lukaku, who entered the match with three goals in his last four league matches. With the win, Everton now moves five points back of sixth-place Manchester United, who drew at Stoke.
