Southampton are ready to make an improved bid for Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster as a replacement for Artur Boruc.

Artur Boruc had Southampton's starting job locked down when healthy last season but has been an average goalkeeper prone to mistakes. New Saints manager Ronald Koeman wants to improve the position by signing Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster. Forster has been extremely impressive for Celtic and even had a 13 match, 1256 minute streak without conceding a goal. The keeper is highly valued by his club and is expected to cost at least £10m, a price Southampton can afford after selling many of their prized players this summer. It's unknown if Boruc will play as a backup or leave the club if Southampton can sign Forster.

Junior Stanislas made a case for a starting job by bagging a brace as AFC Bournemouth came away with a tidy 0-3 win at Yeovil Town.

Stanislas isn't thought to have a spot for himself claimed in Eddie Howe's XI but the manager is certainly paying attention and should one of his midfield options not live up to the billing, Stanislas stands to see some time. He is going for the minimum price in fpl and a promoted side is likeliest to produce a fantasy weapon from those budget options. He scored with a spot kick in the first half and then from open play early in the second, assisted by Joshua King. King himself would grab the third goal and is also making noise to join Callum Wilson in a forward role.

Everton won their preseason match against Dundee United 0-2, but the big news is that Romelu Lukaku had to be removed with a hamstring strain.

There is a hamstring virus going around the Toffees right now, as Steven Pienaar and Gerard Deulofeu are both set to start the season in the physio room with hamstring strains of their own. We will need to wait on the scan results to get an idea of the severity for Lukaku but one has to put the young Belgian's Week 1 availability in doubt. Roberto Martinez called his removal a precaution but the scan will tell the story. Should he not be ready, Steven Naismith and Arouna Kone present options for Martinez. On a positive note from today's match, Ross Barkley scored along with Conor McAleny.

Micah Richards wore the armband for Aston Villa once ahead tonight and seems set to be their captain for the upcoming season.

Richards is a quality center-back who's had trouble staying fit the past couple of seasons but Aston Villa are giving him a chance at revitalizing his career. Richards getting the armband in pre-season is a huge vote of confidence from Tim Sherwood and we like his chances of starting this season as long as he remains fit. Villa's defense should be decent enough to see Richards perform as an average fantasy defenders, and he can provide good value in late fantasy drafts.

Dimitri Payet was credited with the goal that gave West Ham a 1-0 win over Norwich City earlier today.

Payet took a late corner kick that was "turned in via a combination of Reece Oxford and a Norwich defender". The new Hammers forward has been great in pre-season and figures to be a regular starter for them in the upcoming season. West Ham were solid today, going toe to toe with Norwich and eventually taking over the match for the last 30 minutes or so. They'll need to improve more to be competitive in the Premier League, but they are headed in the right direction so far.

Claudio Ranieri played his starting XI the full 90 minutes today against Burton Albion in what looked like his best side.

Ranieri started Schmeichel, Wasilewski, Huth, Chilwell, Albrighton, King, Hammond, Fuchs, Okazaki, Kramaric, and Vardy. His team played well and were able to beat Burton Albion 2-1 with two goals from Jamie Vardy. Andrej Kramaric and Andy King both hit the woodwork in the first half and Kramaric was especially impressive today. If this does indeed become Leicester's starting lineup, Vardy and Okazaki would have the biggest fantasy values from the Foxes, with Fuchs, Wes Morgan, Albrighton, and Kramaric making up tier two. We should also expect Wes Morgan to replace Ben Chilwell in the starting lineup once he gets fit after participating in the Gold Cup.

Libor Kozak scored twice in Aston Villa's 2-2 draw against Wolverhampton.

Kozak started the match and played very well, leading the line for Aston Villa alongside Gabby Agbonlahor in a 4-4-2. Scott Sinclair and Leandro Bacuna were on the wings, supporting the attack. Kozak had a number of chances to score and netted on two of them before being substituted for newcomer Jordan Ayew. With Villa set to sign Emmanuel Adebayor, that seems to leave them with four strikers in what will presumably be a 4-4-2 formation this season. The unknown leaves all of them with a decreased fantasy value at the moment.

Aston Villa have signed Cordoba defender Jose Angel Crespo.

Crespo is a 28-year-old who has experience at both La Liga and Serie A. He is generally deployed as a full-back who can play on both sides of the pitch. He joins Villa for an undisclosed fee but is expected to feature on the right, across from Jordan Amavi. He isn't known to go forward very well and he lacks the attacking statistics required to make him a useful fantasy player, so we recommend that you avoid him in your fantasy drafts.

Aston Villa are close to signing Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor on a season-long loan, who is set to undergo a medical on Wednesday.

Villa are in dire need of a striker and Adebayor could fill in Christian Benteke's shoes. The 31-year-old Tottenham player was recently relegated to practicing with the U21s and is out of favor at Tottenham. At Villa, he would likely enjoy the duties of being the number one striker, and he will have plenty of opportunities to score with Jack Grealish and newly signed Jordan Ayew setting him up. Adebayor now makes for a high-risk, high-upside pick late in fantasy drafts.

Norwich are on the verge of securing their second signing of the summer after agreeing a season-long loan move for Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom…

Just like London buses, you wait for ages for one and then two come along all at once… After the protracted Robbie Brady transfer from Hull was finally completed, Norwich fans have been treated with a follow up just a few days later. Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom will spend next on loan at Carrow Road, adding center-back and right back options to Norwich boss Alex Neil. It is perhaps Wisdom’s versatility/ failure to nail down one position (choose one) that has slowed his progress at Liverpool. Despite a successful spell on loan at West Brom last season and a new four-year deal in the summer, Wisdom is still not part of Brendan Rodgers plans.

Sunderland captain John O’Shea says the competition for places at the center of defense is a manager’s ‘dream’…

Far be it from me to suggest what Dick Advocaat dreams about in his private moments, but his skipper John O’Shea has put himself forward. And Wes Brown, Younes Kaboul and Sebastien Coates. But not necessarily in that order. The acquisition of Kaboul and Coates (permanently) this summer has given Sunderland much more strength in depth, but which two of the four will start is not yet clear. O’Shea will play alongside debutant Kaboul in their friendly with Doncaster this week and are probably favourites to start on week one. Seb Coates is still a week or two behind his team-mates following an extended break due to the Copa America and Wes Brown ended last season out of form and the team. Plus, highly rated academy product Tom Beadling is predicted to make a breakthrough this season having travelled with the first team on their North American tour.

Ryan Mason is expected to be available for the first match of the Premier League season despite missing the clubs’ All-Star MLS game in Denver, USA because of a knee injury.

Mason was on the receiving end of a Jack Wilshere tackle as England prepared to face the Republic of Ireland back in June - scans revealed minor ligament damage, which [fortunately] did not require surgery. Mason was a noticeable absentee as Spurs touched down on U.S. soil along with Alex Pritchard [ankle] and Andros Townsend [shoulder] but while the latter are expected to miss the curtain raiser at Old Trafford the 24 year-old is believed to be close to a return. Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado will not be involved either as Pochettino has sanctioned the sale of the two strikers.
