Robbie Brady had a difficult first season in the Premier League due to a hernia injury and his second season is off to a rocky start after he didn't feature in Hull City's Europa Cup first leg match.

With Robert Snodgrass and Tom Ince both added over the summer, it appears that Robbie Brady's place in the squad has suffered if Europa Cup playing time is any indicator. None of the three "flair" players started the match with David Myler, Tom Huddlestone, Jake Livermore and Gedo taking those honors. In the late-going it was Snodgrass and Ince who came off the bench while Brady watched on from the sidelines. It is only one match but those hoping for a reprise of his great start last season may be disappointed in his lack of playing time.

Arsenal are expecting Aaron Ramsey to return to Premier League action when they face Sunderland in gameweek 9.

The midfielder played the full 90 minutes against Anderlecht and should draw another start here as Arsenal are missing a number of important players from midfield including Jack Wilshere and Mesut Ozil. Ramsey has been spectacular in the past two season when he's been able to stay healthy and we would recommend him in a favorable matchup this week.

West Ham United continued their fine season to date with a spirited 2-1 defeat of Manchester City, the game-winning goal coming from red hot Diafra Sakho.

West Ham are sitting squarely 4th in the table and unless Liverpool go crazy later today, the Hammers will remain fourth at gameweek's end. Their success this season has to be credited in large by their new attack, spearheaded by Sakho and Enner Valencia who are both proving to be a handful for some of the world's best defenders. It is Sakho who is reaping the fantasy benefits more, scoring now in his 5th consecutive match after he headed home a perfect cross by Aaron Cresswell. Morgan Amalfitano grabbed the game's first goal. There are plenty of attractive fixtures ahead for West Ham. Sakho is looking like a premium 3rd forward to own.

David Silva scored a world class goal for Manchester City today, but the woodwork appeared to be the 12th man for the opposition as West Ham would go on to defeat the defending champions, 2-1.

After their thumping of Spurs last week, investment in City players was understandably high heading into this gameweek, with Sergio Aguero a must-own, but unless you had Silva in your side, you probably aren't too happy with the returns. It wasn't from a lack of chances, to be sure. While somewhat lethargic in the first half, European competition and travel may have something to do with that, they were swarming the Hammer final third for most of the 2nd period. Aguero took seven shots in all, with two on target, but it was the one off-target that smashed the bar from point blank range that will be remembered. Yaya Toure also hit woodwork in a later surge. Only Silva could find paydirt, after finishing a sublime run and strike. Credit to West Ham, who proved today that their place in the table is no fluke. Its the Manchester Derby up next for the Sky Blues.

The latest word from Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho regarding the availability of his prizes striker Diego Costa is that "he has a little chance" of being fit for the showdown on Sunday with Manchester United.

The status of Costa is as cloudy as ever, and many a manger will have to make tough decisions with their fantasy XI's as the deadline looms. One would have to imagine though that the best case scenario for Costa is a start, but no more than an hour of pitch time. It may be a likelier scenario that he begins the match on the bench, Mourinho deploys one of Didier Drogba or Andre Schurrle up top, and Costa comes on at the hour mark. Either way, one is playing a game of chance this weekend. Even if you pick the right starter, whoever that may be does not look to get a full shift in.

Arsenal's defensive woes continue with the news that Laurent Koscielny will likely be out until after the international break if not longer.

Arsene Wenger wasn't precise on Koscielny's prognosis in his press conference leading up to the Week 9 match-up with Sunderland but what seemed clear is that the French international is likely to be absent through the mid-November international break. Calum Chambers will return from his suspension which will ease some of the defensive issues but it seems likely that Arsenal will continue to depend on Nacho Monreal to deputize at center back which isn't ideal.
Oct 24 - 4:50 PM

Ben Foster returned to training following a minor calf problem and Alan Irvine will have to decide between he and Boaz Myhill for the visit of Crystal Palace.

Boaz Myhill helped the Baggies earn a point against Manchester United which might get him the benefit of the doubt if there is even a little concern over Foster's health for Week 9. With Palace the opponent it is legitimate to consider whichever player starts a reasonable fantasy play in unique-ownership leagues or even salary cap leagues where you need a bargain in goal to spend elsewhere. The only thing holding you back from the West Brom keeper this week will be knowing which one will play.

Geoff Cameron will likely return to the Stoke City starting line-up for the Week 9 match-up against Southampton with the only question being where he might start.

The versatile Cameron can play center back, holding midfield and right back and two of those three spots have potential vacancies for the Potters this week. Phil Bardsley is doubtful due to a back issue and Andy Wilkinson has joined Milwall on loan which means the most likely option is Cameron deputizing at right back. The other alternative is holding midfield where Glenn Whelan is definitely out with a broken leg. Either way, Cameron is an OK option in that he's likely to start but not spectacular in that it seems unlikely that Mark Hughes' squad will keep a clean sheet or have the upper hand against the team that scored eight last weekend.
Oct 24 - 4:59 PM

Stoke City right back Phil Bardsley has been listed as doubtful for the Week 9 clash with Southampton with a back complaint.

Going on the road and facing a team that just put up eight goals isn't the time to be missing starting defenders but that is what Mark Hughes may be facing with Phil Bardsley's back being an issue. US international Geoff Cameron, himself just returning from injury, is available to deputize but will face a tough time trying to contain the rampant Saints attack in his first start back. Stranger things have happened but it certainly doesn't look like the ideal situation for Stoke.

Angel Di Maria should be fully fit and ready to go against Chelsea in the weekend's marquee match-up.

Beating Chelsea was always going to be a tough ask for this edition of Manchester United but doing it without player-of-the-season-so-far Angel Di Maria would have been an even bigger ask. Fortunately for United supporters and neutrals alike we won't have to find out as Di Maria has been passed fit and should be ready to go for the showdown on Sunday.
Oct 24 - 5:05 PM

Nikica Jelavic was expected to start at the Emirates last weekend but was a late scratch with a knee issue that could see him out for as long as six weeks.

The Croatian forward has been in great form for Steve Bruce so far this season but Hull City will have to get by without him as he will be on the shelf for approximately six weeks with a knee complaint. Abel Hernandez will likely continue to start with Bruce likely to see which of Hatem Ben Arfa and Gaston Ramirez is better suited to play regularly in Jelavic's stead.
Oct 24 - 1:07 PM

Michael Dawson was heroic against Arsenal but won't be able to build on that effort as he has been ruled out with an ankle injury for six weeks.

Steve Bruce spent the summer looking for a strong third center back to join James Chester and Curtis Davies in a 3-5-2 alignment. In Michael Dawson he appeared to find that player but he will have to make alternative arrangements for the next six weeks as Dawson will be out. The likely options are the manager's son Alex Bruce may return to the starting line-up with the alignment remaining the same or Bruce reverting to a 4-4-2 with another midfielder coming into the starting line-up in place of Dawson.
