Sunderland manager Gus Poyet is hoping to have an almost fully fit squad this weekend when the Black Cats travel to The Hawthorns on Saturday to take on West Bromich Albion.

Only Emanuele Giaccherini has been ruled out of the opener after picking up a minor groin strain last week. The Italian international had performed well over the summer with a string of encouraging performances although Gus Poyet did confirm that the former Juventus midfielder won’t be sidelined for too long after a scan revealed no significant damage; the player is expected to be out for "a few weeks." Slight doubts also remain over full-back Billy Jones (hamstring) but despite a hectic close season the Black Cats boss will be able to call upon the services of Steven Fletcher (ankle), Jozy Altidore (hamstring), Lee Cattermole (calf) and midfielder Liam Bridcutt following their recovery from recent injury.

West Ham United chairman David Gold confirmed late on Monday night that Cheikhou Kouyate could be sidelined for around six weeks after a scan confirmed the defensive midfielder suffered a muscular tear during Saturday’s win over Liverpool.

Kouyate pulled up during the game with a slight grimace and appeared to be in pain but the West Ham player quickly allayed fears saying he was "ok, I’m fine [to continue]" and completed the full 90 minutes. Post-match the club confirmed Cheikhou would be sent for a [precautionary] scan which revealed the adductor tear was much worse than anyone had considered. However having amassed quality over the summer Sam Allardyce now has the strength and depth within his Hammers squad to draft in a number of worthy replacements - Matthew Jarvis ready to return following a thigh problem, goal scoring substitute Amalfitano is waiting in the wings and loanee Alex Song nearing full fitness.

Mile Jedinak continued his superb fantasy form as Crystal Palace picked up their first win of the season at Everton.

Jedinak is once again proving a terrific performer in the Yahoo fantasy game, sitting in the top five of point scoring midfielders so far. Sunday saw the Palace captain pick up a further 19 fantasy points thanks to a penalty, combined with two blocks, five interceptions and three tackles won. As we've repeatedly mentioned, the Australian is essentially fixture proof, putting up points home and away, no matter the opponent.

Yaya Toure continues to disappoint as Manchester City drew at home to title rivals Chelsea.

What has happened to Yaya? The midfielder was the driving force behind Manchester City's Premier League success last season, but has managed just three fantasy points in five games as he continues to look a shadow of his former self. Whether Toure is carrying an injury is a question worth asking, because he appears laboured and late when tackling - a problem that has lead to a bunch of negative points due to fouls conceded and yellow cards. Until we see a clear upturn in form you should ignore the Ivory Coast star for fantasy purposes.

Sunderland's Patrick Van Aanholt continues to impress both on the pitch and in fantasy.

Sunderland clean sheet against Burnley helped van Aanholt to another double digit fantasy return, but his performance was far more than just that. The ex-Chelsea man was unlucky not to score the winner after his long-range shot hit the post before rebounding off the keeper to go inches wide. In addition, the left-back picked up defensive points for tackles won and passes intercepted, and should remain close to the top of your defensive considerations every week while he continues to display this consistent form.

Liverpool have emerged as potential suitors for Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart.

This seems extremely unlikely, but the Metro newspaper have quotes from Hart which suggest he is unhappy with his current contract situation - despite more having more than 18 months left to run - because Manchester City have not started discussions over a new deal. The basis for the Liverpool link is simply that Simon Mignolet has had a rough start to the season which may lead to the Reds entering the market for a new keeper, so take this rumour with a pinch of salt.

Manchester United’s defensive problems deepen as Jonny Evans is replaced after 30 minutes at the King Power Stadium on Sunday while Tyler Blackett was shown red.

Leicester supporters witnessed one of their greatest comebacks in living memory as The Foxes came from behind to defeat a star studded United side in arguably the game of the season to date. Their second half performance was every bit as good as Manchester United’s inability to defend and now Louis van Gaal must consider his options ahead of game week six with the loss of Jonny Evans [injury] and Tyler Blackett [suspension]. Evans will have a scan on Monday to confirm the extent of his ankle problem although the initial signs aren’t good as he left the ground in a protective cast on crutches. With Phil Jones still 10-14 days away and Jesse Lingard out United can ill-afford any further problems - Luke Shaw is in line to make his first team bow against West Ham next weekend.

Southampton climb into second but the three points at The Liberty came at a cost as James Ward-Prowse and Maya Yoshida are lost to injury.

James Ward-Prowse will be assessed after the Saints midfielder was caught by Swansea debutant Frederico Fernandez midway through the second half resulting in the player leaving the field of play on a stretcher. Although the early signs did not look good post-match Ronald Koeman confirmed that he had spoken with the medical team who advised the problem was "not bad," despite having his ankle fixed in a plastic cast. There was also good news regarding defender Maya Yoshida, his ankle injury only appears to be knock meaning a return next weekend would be realistic with defensive teammate Toby Alderweireld also expected to recover from the minor hamstring injury which sidelined him for the win over Swansea.

Everton scored first and last but couldn't put away struggling Crystal Palace at Goodison Park.

One of the keys to Everyone's success last season was ruthlessly beating the teams they were supposed to beat. Already this season they had dropped points to Leicester City but this weekend's result was even worse with the Toffees dropping three points at home to a previously winless Crystal Palace team.

Despite goals from Robin van Persie, Angel di Maria and Ander Herrera the Reds lost 5-3 to Leicester City.

The attack went to plan with new arrivals and big-name holdovers all scoring in the early going. United were up 2-0 and then 3-1 before their defense deserted them as the Foxes scored four unanswered goals while Tyler Blackett was sent off. Just when it looked like last weekend against QPR wasn't a mirage United self-destructed against feisty but still no better than mid-table opposition. Not what anyone expected after all the money spent over the summer.

Yannick Bolasie scored Palace's third goal in a Man of the Match performance that saw the Eagles pick up an unexpected three points at Goodison Park.

After going down 1-0 to an early Romelu Lukaku strike Crystal Palace scored three unanswered goals to go up 3-1. They gave up a Leighton Baines penalty late but held on for a critical three points in a season that started out poorly.

A tight goalless affair between perhaps the two strongest clubs in the league was given a boost by each side's substitutes, with Frank Lampard's goal equalizing an earlier Chelsea strike, and the two powerhouses settled for a 1-1 draw.

The story of the first half was the rash of yellow cards being handed out by referee Mike Dean, six in total, four of which would be handed to City players. That created a predictable second half problem, when Pablo Zabaleta was handed a second card, paring the Sky Blues down to 10 men. Chelsea would soon score and it looked like they would steal the points at The Etihad, but the appearance of Frank Lampard created a spark and the Chelsea legend burned his former club with a classic strike. It was a much needed result against a Chelsea side that was looking to run away with the table early.
