Nik Argiropoulos believes Wayne Rooney must be considered one of the top fantasy picks for Week 1.

The top pick for the opening weekend. Rooney is looking trim, he's been playing well in pre-season and has the motivation of being handed the captain's armband by Louis van Gaal. In Robin van Persie's absence he'll take penalties and many of the set pieces, so that should lead to the striker being well worth the £16million investment in the Yahoo game. Visitors Swansea could be in for a tough time.

Arsenal believe Santi Cazorla will not play again this season following another major setback.

The Spanish midfielder has been limited to just eight Premier League appearances this term after picking up an ankle injury against Ludogorets in the Champions League last October. Following several weeks of rehab, Cazorla wasn’t progressing as hoped, and the Arsenal medical team in conjunction with specialists decided that the 32-year-old would have surgery on the plantaris tendon in his right foot. Cazorla travelled to Sweden for the procedure and was told a full recovery would take around three months, although the player himself was initially confident of a return within two. However, following several setbacks, Cazorla will now focus on being fit for the start of the 2017/18 campaign.

The brief speculation over Adam Lallana's future at Liverpool is over after the club officially announced he has signed a new contract.

The former Southampton midfielder has been linked with Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham in recent months following a stellar run of form that has seen him record seven goals and seven assists this season. But the 28-year-old has now signed a three-year contract reportedly worth £150,000-a-week to make him one of the highest-paid players at the club. Said Lallana: "Signing for a club like Liverpool is obviously a big thing – but to re-sign shows you’ve obviously contributed enough that the people who make the decisions want you to stay longer. This is a really good place to be at the moment and, for a player who wants to be part of something special, I can’t think of a better club to commit your future to."

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho admitted it won't be easy for Luke Shaw to force his way back into the first team.

That's because the manager rates Shaw as the club's fourth-best left-back. The £27 million signing from Southampton has not played in the Premier League since Week 11 and didn't even feature in the club's FA Cup or Europa League squads this week, with Mourinho challenging the 21-year-old to work harder: "Why has Luke Shaw stayed behind in Manchester? Because I am playing with Daley Blind, with Marcos Rojo, with Matteo Darmian and all of them are playing the way I like a full-back to play. Luke has to wait for his chance. He has to work better and better knowing that I give nothing for free."

Bristol City loanee Tammy Abraham has returned to Chelsea after being ruled out for "two to three weeks" with a thigh injury.

The 19-year-old suffered the injury in Bristol City's 2-1 defeat at Leeds last week and has return to his parent club for treatment, City manager Lee Johnson has confirmed. Abraham has scored 21 goals in 21 matches for the Championship outfit this season, and will resume his season-long loan once he recovers. On the injury, Johnson told Bristol City Player HD: "It’s the best case scenario because at one point we thought it could be six to eight weeks. Tammy is hoping it’s nearer two than three weeks. Chelsea are looking after him at the moment and we’ll get him back in around a week to ten days to start getting him back on the [training pitches]."

Middlesbrough captain Grant Leadbitter is hopeful the club's FA Cup success will be a confident boost ahead of their trip to Crystal Palace.

Leadbitter scored a penalty at the weekend as Middlesbrough advanced to the FA Cup quarter-finals with 3-2 win over Oxford United, putting them one step closer to a trip to Wembley. While Boro currently sit just two points above the drop zone and are winless in their last eight league matches, Leadbitter is looking for the club to carry the confidence of their cup run into this weekend's trip to Selhurst Park. Speaking ahead of Saturday's pivotal fixture at Crystal Palace, who currently sit three points below in the table, Leadbitter said: "At the end of the day we have to start winning a lot more football games and we need to win games to stay in the division. While his return to fitness might not result in a start this weekend, the 23-year-old will be eager to make amends for the club's 4-2 home defeat against Watford in September. Speaking ahead of Saturday's match, Masuaku said his team-mates will have a major point to prove at Vicarage Road. "I remember the game and we played so well in the first 40 minutes and should have killed the game off," he said. " We were unlucky not to get the three points in the last game against West Brom and we could have got the victory if certain decisions had not gone against us. Hopefully we will have more luck in the next game."

Dejan Lovren is at risk of missing this weekend’s trip to Leicester after travelling to Germany to meet with a knee specialist.
