Andreas Weimann scored to put Aston Villa ahead for good in their 1-0 win over Stoke City.

This was one of the surprising results today as Stoke City have been very consistent at home. On top of that, Aston Villa were missing their big striker options and it's surprising they were able to find a goal. The win is a big one for Aston Villa and will relieve some of the pressure on Paul Lambert, who's been criticized for having a poor summer and poor last few season at Villa Park. Things can only go up from here for Aston Villa as they await the returns of Libor Kozak and Christian Benteke.

Hull City have been rocked by the news that Dieumerci Mbokani has been sidelined for up-to six weeks after suffering a hamstring strain during Saturdays 1-1 draw with Burnley.

The DR Congo striker has struggled to settle since his arrival on-loan from Dynamo Kiev in the summer. Injury, suspension and recently his involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations has restricted Mbokani to only 10 appearances [8 starts] while the 31-year-old is yet to score for the Tigers. This latest setback is likely keep Mbokani out until April, and with several players already sidelined, the injury couldn’t have arrived at a worse time with Hull battling to remain in the top flight. Will Keane [ACL] has already been ruled out for the season which means attacking responsibilities could fall to either Abel Hernandez, who was introduced from the bench last weekend having just recovered from his own hamstring injury, or Everton loanee Oumar Niasse who joined in January.

Bakary Sako is closing in on a return to action after the Crystal Palace winger confirmed he is back on the training pitches following a muscle strain.

Injuries have limited Sako to just four substitute appearances in the league, and while the Africa Cup of Nations was seen as the ideal opportunity for the former Wolves player to regain his match fitness, the 28-year-old returned from the tournament with yet another hamstring problem. But, Sako is hoping to be involved over the coming weeks after stepping up his recovery. The winger posted an update for his followers via Instagram: ‘Glad to back’ accompanied by a picture of him training. Palace currently occupy one of the relegation places and the return of Sako will help boost Sam Allardyce’s attacking options with Andros Townsend and Wilfried Zaha struggling for form.

Slaven Bilic could be tempted to start Andre Ayew against Chelsea as West Ham United will be without Michail Antonio through suspension.

While Ayew has been limited to 13 appearances due to injuries this season, the club-record £20.5million signing came off the bench to score the equalizer as the Hammers drew 1-1 with Watford at the weekend. After a successful substitute cameo on his first appearance since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, Ayew appears to be in line for a start with Michail Antonio unavailable for next Monday's clash with Chelsea. The absence of Antonio does however look set to coincide with the return of Andy Carroll, which would give Bilic the option play Ayew as secondary striker behind Carroll.

Christian Fuchs paid tribute to the Blue Army after Leicester City surged to an all-important 3-1 victory over Liverpool at the King Power Stadium on Monday.

The ex-Austria international was among the top performers on a momentous night for the Foxes. Fuchs won seven tackles, put in two crosses and assisted on Jamie Vardy's second goal as the home side roared to victory in front of their home fans. Speaking to LCFC TV after the match, the left-back hailed Leicester's performance and the club's supporters amid the difficult circumstances: "These fans behind us cheered every action that we did, whenever we won a tackle we fired them up, they were a great support today. You saw the Leicester of last season and we will try to build upon this game," he said. Fuchs also touched on the importance of replicating the intensity shown moving forward. "Every match for us is a final. We can build up on this game and we’re looking forward to the next one," the 30-year-old added.

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes gave a positive update over the injury status of goalkeeper Jack Butland.

The starting goalkeeper has missed the last 11 months after suffering a fractured ankle while on England duty last March. Since, Butland has suffered multiple setbacks that has seen him in and out of training but never back in the Potters' first team. But Hughes said Butland is closing in on a return in the next couple weeks after coming through his rehabilitation without a setback: "He could well be an option in mid-March. The feeling is he’ll be back very soon. He’ll be meeting his consultant in a week or two, that’s when he’ll hopefully be given the green light in terms of full integration. Once he gets that it will be a couple of weeks more maybe when he’ll be available for selection."

Chelsea goalkeeper Asmir Begovic said he has no hard feelings over a failed move to Bournemouth last month.

The club reportedly accepted a £12 million bid from Bournemouth in the winter transfer window, but would only let the Bosnian international leave if a replacement could be found to back up Thibaut Courtois. Despite not playing a single minute in the Premier League this season, Begovic said his focus is on winning a title at the club: "It’s no problem. I’ve been around the block so I have experience. If the club count on me and want me to stay here, I will stay and that was obviously the case [last month]. I’m happy with that and hopefully I will lift a couple of trophies at the end of the season."

Jonny Evans started in Albion's Week 26 win over Bournemouth but it may not be a permanent move given the circumstances.

It appears that Jonny Evans' start was a direct result of the unexpected late injury to Matt Phillips. Chris Brunt moved up from full back to midfield to fill in for Phillips opening up a spot for Evans to come into the line-up. Tony Pulis seems to be focused on a more attacking line-up featuring Brunt at the back and Phillips in midfield when both are healthy. Pulis may adjust his attacking bent based on the opponent but Brunt and Ayew seem to be starters in his typical starting eleven these days with Evans likely a reserve.

A brace from Jamie Vardy and a goal from Daniel Drinkwater jolted Leicester City to a 3-1 win over Liverpool in their first match since sacking Claudio Ranieri last week.

Amid the off pitch adversity, Leicester City produced a brilliant performance under caretaker manager Craig Shakespeare. While the Foxes had yet to score a league goal in 2017, Jamie Vardy ended their goal drought on 28 minutes when he ran onto a through ball by Marc Albrighton and finished past Simon Mignolet at the near post. Leicester then extended their lead just before the break when Daniel Drinkwater fired a stellar volley from distance into the bottom right corner of the net. Shakespeare's side continued to push after the break and found another goal on 60 minutes, as Vardy tallied his brace with a header off a Christian Fuchs cross. Despite conceding eight minutes later, the reigning champions held firm to pull off a must-needed victory and move two points clear of the drop zone.

Jürgen Klopp says "it looks like" Jordan Henderson will miss this weekends’ clash with Arsenal at Anfield.

There were rumours during the build-up to the Leicester game that Henderson had broken a bone in his foot following a training ground challenge with Leiva when the skipper failed to travel to the King Power. However, tests and a scan revealed the 26-year-old, who has been plagued with ongoing foot and Achilles problems, had sustained heavy bruising which would keep him out for between 7-14 days. Speaking after the 3-1 loss to Leicester, Klopp suggested Henderson is a major doubt for Saturday: "It looks like he will not be ready for Arsenal," he said. "That's how it looks but I'm not sure, we will see." Emre Can came in for his first Premier League start in three weeks and it was his pass to Philippe Coutinho which helped to reduce the deficit late on for Liverpool.

Tony Pulis expects Craig Dawson to be okay for the visit of Crystal Palace this weekend despite the centre-back being knocked out cold on Saturday.

Dawson was poleaxed following a sickening clash of heads with Tyrone Mings, but the Baggies boss was able to provide a positive update after his sides 2-1 win over Bournemouth and laughed off any suggestion that the 26-year-old had suffered a serious injury: "He’s got absolutely slaughtered in the dressing room after the game," Pulis said. "He’s got a little bump on the side of his head so he’s got hammered by the players." Those sentiments were echoed by teammate Chris Brunt who added "what goes around comes around" implying Dawson has dished out his fair share of injuries in the past. "If there’s a chance to go and put his head on something he will always do it and sometimes you come off a bit worse for wear."

Manchester United's 24 year old midfielder Jesse Lingard scored United's second as they overcame Southampton 3-2 in a thrilling EFL Cup final.

On Sunday, he became only the third player to score in a League Cup final, FA Cup final and Community shield at the hallowed Wembley Stadium which highlights his big game pedigree in spite of his "class clown" reputation. However, the fact that his three consecutive Wembley goals constitute 30% of all his goals in red perhaps explains why people doubt him. However, it's unfair to compare Lingard to Mkhitaryan, who he replaced in the starting line-up, as the Englishman's role in the team is far more defensive than the Armenian or teammate Juan Mata. Mourinho did not deploy him in the final just to attack, he also pressed Oriol Romeu continuously, earning himself a caution and final warning but ultimately the ploy worked well. His manager was clearly satisfied, as he sacrificed Juan Mata to facilitate a half-time tactical switch as opposed to Lingard.
