While investors who played Daniel Sturridge in their Week 1 fantasy teams can feel satisfied with his 16 point output, it masked and otherwise lackluster performance from the expensive forward.

12 of the 16 points Sturridge gained came on the slight touch from Raheem Sterling's header that some would argue may have been on its way into goal without the assistance from Sturridge. Otherwise, he displayed little threat throughout the entirety of the match, failing to register any other shots on goal. To be fair, points are points, and Sturridge is sure to poach his share of goals this season, but the lack of Luis Suarez should have managers viewing Sturridge a tier below the elite strikers in the game.

Crystal Palace Football Club can today confirm that Neil Warnock has been relieved of his duties and is no longer first-team manager.

And so we have out first Premier League managerial casualty of the season. Warnock joined Crystal Palace for a second time in August 2014, following the departure of Tony Pulis, but won just three of his 16 Premier League games in his second spell in charge, giving a win percentage of 18.8%. The 3-1 home defeat to Southampton put the Eagles in to the relegation zone and forced the club to act before things got any worse. Assistant manager Keith Millen will be in charge for the trip to Queens Park Rangers on Sunday but it is understood that Palace will begin their search for a permanent successor immediately. Tim Sherwood is one of the early favourites to take the role, with Pulis himself also mentioned, although the latter seems extremely unlikely.

With a trip to the Etihad 48 hours after a home loss to Liverpool, there is nothing attractive about investing in any Burnley players for Week 19.

Even Kieran Trippier, who is leaps and bounds ahead of the next best player from a fantasy perspective has quieted down some, averaging a pedestrian six points over the past couple of matches in the Yahoo game. The only player that should even cross one's mind is Arfield, and that is purely to serve as a fifth midfielder on one's bench who can at least be counted on to start, or as counted on as one can be in a 48 hour turnaround. He goes for just 3.43m and actually outscored Trippier in the 0-1 loss to the Reds.

Samuel Eto'o looks primed to get a start for Everton's trip to Newcastle tomorrow, making him an interesting budget forward option for Week 19.

An interesting stat, Eto's has alternated between starting and not starting league games going all the way back to Week 11. Yesterday, he did not start, so if this pattern were to continue, and it makes more sense to tomorrow more than ever with the quick turnaround, then Eto' should be in the XI. Newcastle have conceded nine goals in their last three league games and Eto'o is still capable of bagging a brace any given day. For 7.34m, he can act as a third forward and be a very sneaky play. The question is: will tomorrow mark the beginning of a turnaround for the Toffees.

Fresh off a road clean sheet, Liverpool head back to Anfield where they host Swansea City and Leicester City over the next two gameweeks, putting a player like Martin Skrtel on our short-term radars.

Swansea are no guarantee of being easy to keep out when you have talents like Wilfried Bony and Gylfi Sigurdssson capable of magic at any moment, but they have managed to average under a goal a game on the road, so the attack is noticeably not as potent. The better of the two matches is of course Leicester, who can make even an inconsistent Reds defense look like a sound buy. Skrtel has been Brendan Rodgers' most dependable option in the back, and should start both matches. He is coming off a nice 18 point haul yesterday.

Adnan Januzaj became the second United - and Belgium - player to be struck down with a virus which has affected a number of Manchester United squad members to varying degrees.

Januzaj joins Marouane Fellaini on the sidelines and the pair will miss Sundays' trip to White Hart Lane as they struggle to shake off the effects of the 'Belgium Virus'. Januzaj has fell down the pecking order this season following a number of new arrivals - Angel di Maria / Radamel Falcao / Daley Blind - and despite a host of injuries to key personnel the youngster has been restricted to just four starts this campaign only completing 90 minutes twice. Januzaj may look for a loan move in 2015 to help continue his development and gain some valuable game time / experimence with Newcastle reportedly interested.

Flying winger Jefferson Montero could miss the remainder of the Christmas schedule because of injury after limping out of the win over Aston Villa at the Liberty Stadium on Friday.

The Ecuadorian had just returned to the side having tweaked his hamstring last week and this latest setback - recurrence - will need a scan to confirm the extent of the strain. Even a grade one tear could mean at least two weeks on the sidelines and his recent problems could mean Garry Monk may not risk a hasty return. However the Swans should be able to welcome back Leon Britton against Liverpool – a knee injury has troubled him recently but the midfielder did train this week while Gylfi Sigurdsson showed no signs of the foot injury - which kept him out of GW17 - by scoring the winning goal with a superb free-kick. Wayne Routledge is on standby if Montero misses out.

Angel di Maria has suffered another injury – this time in training – making the Argentine winger a serious doubt for GW19.

Louis van Gaal confirmed di Maria has a pelvic problem which is being assessed having pulled out of the warm-up during a session on Christmas Eve – the player had just returned to the side following a hamstring problem and worryingly this latest setback is his sixth since signing in the summer. Di Maria is almost certain to miss the trip to Tottenham on Sunday while the United manager also confirmed Marouane Fellaini and Adnan Januzaj [Belgium Flu] are both out along with Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo – around two weeks. Luke Shaw is close and trained with the team during the post-match warm down at Old Trafford today.

Alexis Sanchez was all over the pitch winning a penalty, having it saved, scoring Arsenal's first and then assisting on their second in a 2-1 Boxing Day win over QPR.

It was a little bit of everything from Alexis Sanchez and Arsenal on Boxing Day. Sanchez was very good drawing a penalty, scoring a goal and getting an assist. On the down side, Giroud was sent off for a rash headbutt on Nedum Onuoha and Sanchez saw a weak penalty saved by Robert Green. Arsenal also conceded a late penalty that Charlie Austin scored to make the final ten minutes tense at the Emirates.

Charlie Austin was at it again with a goal from the penalty spot but QPR couldn't stage another big comeback as they lost their ninth consecutive away match at the Emirates 2-1 on Boxing Day.

It seemed unlikely that QPRs first road points of the season would come at the Emirates and they didn't but it was closer than expected after Olivier Giroud was sent off. Austin spent most of the first half as a make-shift defender warding off set pieces and corners in the QPR box. With Giroud off early in the second half, Austin and the Rs took a more attacking posture and were eventually rewarded with a penalty that Junior Hoilett drew from Mathieu Debuchy and Charlie Austin converted. The Rs pressed for the equalizer and had some solid chances and potential penalty claims but couldn't get the second.

Roberto Martinez will be sweating on the fitness of a number of players ahead of the clash with Newcastle at St James’ Park in GW19.

The Toffees came through a particularly bruising encounter against Stoke having lost the game one nil and up to four of today's starters because of injury. In the first half alone over ten minutes of extra time were played as Phil Jagielka and John Stones [both ankle], Tim Howard [calf] and Ross Barkley [nose] all received treatment while Ryan Shawcross was left with a bloodied and bandaged head. Kevin Mirallas was also the recipient of a heavy Charlie Adam challenge during the second half. Howard and Jagielka remain the biggest doubts with Joel Robles and Antolin Alcaraz the likely benefactors in what the manager bills as a "pivotal" game on Tyneside – Everton are currently 13 points behind last season’s total at the same stage.

Southampton defender Toby Alderweireld continued his hot fantasy form with a goal in the Saints' win over Crystal Palace.

Alderweireld makes it two consecutive weeks with double digit points despite not getting a clean sheet today. He is nailed on as a starter in Southampton and only costs £ 8.16M, making him an attractive options for fantasy managers in various formats. He can be used with confidence. Ryan Bertrand also scored today and is an even better fantasy option, but the price difference makes Bertrand hard to own unless you have him at a discount.
