While investors who played Daniel Sturridge in their Week 1 fantasy teams can feel satisfied with his 16 point output, it masked and otherwise lackluster performance from the expensive forward.

12 of the 16 points Sturridge gained came on the slight touch from Raheem Sterling's header that some would argue may have been on its way into goal without the assistance from Sturridge. Otherwise, he displayed little threat throughout the entirety of the match, failing to register any other shots on goal. To be fair, points are points, and Sturridge is sure to poach his share of goals this season, but the lack of Luis Suarez should have managers viewing Sturridge a tier below the elite strikers in the game.

James Morrison has picked up a hamstring issue that may force him to miss the Baggies' Week 27 match against Southampton.

The midfielder has been going from injury issue to injury issue with an early February knee complaint now giving way to a late February hamstring issue. Not exactly the way to endear yourself to a new manager. Least of all a manager like Tony Pulis who is all about physically robust players. The problem is compounded for Morrison by the presence of Darren Fletcher with whom he is competing for playing time. Definitely someone to avoid this week and whose longer term future as a starter is in question.

Victor Anichebe, still struggling with a groin issue, might be fit enough for the bench but is highly unlikely to start for Tony Pulis against Southampton.

Anichebe continues to be one of the more fragile players in the Premier League despite a robust physical frame. Anichebe will, in all likelihood, miss out again in Week 27 and seems unlikely to be ready to make anything more than a cameo appearance in Week 28. Fantasy managers should avoid making anything approaching a long term investment in him and, at this point, even a week-long purchase seems risky given the frequency of his injuries.

Ryan Shawcross will miss Stoke City's Week 27 match with Hull City as he continues to recover from a back injury.

The Potters' injury crisis at the back has largely abated but Ryan Shawcross and Marc Muniesa both remain out. Shawcross is nearing his predicted return date but Week 27 will come too soon for him to resume his duties leading the defense. It is likely that Marc Wilson and Philip Wollscheid will partner in central defense and attempt to quiet in form Hull City forwards Nikica Jelavic and Dame N'Doye.

Mohamed Diame is still not back in training after suffering a setback in his recovery from an early-December knee injury.

The setback comes at a bad time with Weeks 27 and 28 coming right on top of each other. It has already been confirmed that Diame will definitely miss Week 27 and since he's yet to start training again, mid-week will almost definitely come too soon for him to play even a substitute's role in that match.

Saido Berahino will be assessed ahead of West Brom's Week 27 match with Southampton at the Hawthorns.

Berahino, the Baggies' leading scorer, seems like a reasonable bet to play. The injury doesn't sound too serious and Tony Pulis will want his best players available to try to pick up at least a point from a Saints team in dire need of a rebound victory. If you need to make a bet on whether Berahino will play or not, I'd say he will. If you don't have to put yourself into that situation, you're probably better off looking elsewhere for a forward.

Robin van Persie left the Liberty Stadium in a walking boot last weekend and will definitely miss the Week 27 match with Sunderland and likely more once a diagnosis is finally reached.

While not ideal, the absence of van Persie might solve a problem for Louis Van Gaal who has been struggling for how best to align his attacking options. Van Persie's absence opens the door for Wayne Rooney and Falcao/James Wilson to partner at forward with a spot open in midfield for Juan Mata/Ander Herrera. Throw in RvP's form this season and the results from Rooney's run as a deeper-lying midfielder and United might actually be in a better spot with van Persie injured.

Michael Carrick has been declared fully fit and should be available to face Sunderland in Week 27 action in the Premier League.

Manchester United have struggled mightily when Michael Carrick has been out of the line-up. Their recent results might not reflect it because they've been playing mostly poor teams recently but they haven't been playing particularly well against those teams. The loss at Swansea last weekend underscored the issue. Carrick is back for Week 27 and should be restored to the starting eleven. If he can help bring some fluency to the United attack from the base of midfield United will be in a much better position to secure a Champions League spot for next season.

Chelsea loanee Mohamed Salah scored a goal in Fiorentina's 2-0 win on Thursday that sent Spurs out of the Europa Cup with a 3-1 aggregate win over the North London club.

Spurs, already down an away goal, didn't generate many opportunities as they crashed out of the Europa Cup on Thursday in Italy. Mario Gomez's goal eventually proved to be more than enough for the win but Jan Vertonghen was stripped by Salah in the 71st minute and the Chelsea man scored to put the tie away. Roberto Soldado could have had a first half chance to put Spurs ahead but, befitting a man whose confidence is low, he chose to pass rather than have a shot on goal.

Marouane Chamakh is one of three Crystal Palace strikers currently sidelined because of a hamstring problem after Alan Pardew confirmed the Moroccan would be out for around two weeks.

Chamakh was injured during the build-up to last weekends’ game and missed the opportunity to face his former employers at Selhurst Park after a scan confirmed a grade one tear – a similar injury to the one suffered by team mate Yaya Sanogo – both players are expected to return for the Queens Park Rangers match in GW29. Glenn Murray and Dwight Gayle could lead the line at West Ham although Shola Ameobi is an option - Fraizer Campbell has been ruled out [for up to 6 weeks]. The Eagles will welcome back James McArthur for the trip to the Boleyn Ground while Pardew also confirmed captain Mile Jedinak had trained fully this week but a place in starting eleven is no gimme with Jordon Mutch impressing recently.

After Besiktas made their five penalties and Liverpool made their first four, Dejan Lovren sent his spot kick high and the miss saw the Reds bow out of the Europa Cup.

Liverpool were lucky not to lose the tie in open play as Demba Ba rattled the cross bar with the score 1-1. The Reds' luck wouldn't hold up as Lovern's miss compounded a miserable week for English clubs in European competition. Liverpool's hot form in the Premier League didn't carry over and now they will have more energy to focus on the Premier League as that will be the only way they qualify for next season's Champions League.

Mame Biram Diouf has technically been back from the ACN since Week 24 but Week 27 signaled his return to the score sheet after two lackluster matches.

Diouf has been a solid-but-not-great acquisition thus far for the Potters. He came to the club on a free but that is generally accompanied by high wages and it isn't clear that he's been worth that part of what it cost to bring him to the Premier League. Far be it from us to disparage the season Jon Walters is having but Diouf's goal against Aston Villa puts Diouf a goal behind Walters and tied with Peter Crouch for second among the Potters' goal scorers. Certainly Hughes would have been hoping he was recruiting a leading man rather than a member of a solid-but-not-great ensemble. Maybe this goal, and the return to form of Victor Moses, will be the thing that turns his season around and pushes him on to bigger and better things.
