Despite a rotten showing from his team, Phil Jones managed to score well for fantasy managers without the benefit of a clean sheet, goal or assist.

There are certainly worries all over the pitch for Manchester United supporters and fantasy managers who own United players alike but Phil Jones wasn't one of them in Week 1. He managed to fill the stat sheet with interceptions (4) and tackles (4) as well as being fouled by Swansea players (4 times). In the Yahoo format that led to 11 points which is a very solid performance for a defender on a losing team. The only immediate concern is whether the arrival of Marcos Rojo and return of Jonny Evans to full health will impact Jones' playing time. For the record, I don't think either will have an impact but we don't know what Louis Van Gaal thinks of his central defenders yet since he hasn't had enough where he's been able to show a preference.

Paul Pogba returned from injury and put in a man-of-the-match performance as Manchester United came from behind to beat Newcastle 4-1 at Old Trafford.

Victor Lindelof slipped and allowed Dwight Gayle to fire Newcastle to a surprise lead in the 14 minute, but that was the lone negative for Jose Mourinho's side on Saturday. Pogba, back from nine weeks on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury, was excellent during his 70 minutes on the pitch and Zlatan Ibrahimovic came of the bench for the final 14 minutes after seven months out. Pogba assisted Anthony Martial to level the match eight minutes from the break before Chris Smalling headed them ahead on the stroke of half-time. United then showed their attacking firepower after the restart, as Pogba finished off a fine team move in the 54th before Romelu Lukaku scored his first goal since late September. The result sees United remain second, one point above Chelsea, but eight points behind leaders Manchester City.

Tony Pulis rumors will gain even more steam after Chelsea came to the Hawthorns and thrashed West Brom 4-0 with Albion barely putting up a fight.

The rumor mill surrounding the track-suited manager was already swirling after a string of poor results. This is bound to increase not only because Albion lost to Chelsea but based on the manner in which they lost. This wasn't the tough-as-nails, take-no-prisoners Tony Pulis side that we have grown accustomed to watching over the years but one that seemed content to be swept aside by superior talent. If they had lost a hard-fought 1-0 decision where they defended hard and gave everything for the cause then Pulis could be excused based on the talent gap. Instead, Albion turned in another performance that makes it look like Pulis has either tired of his uncompromising style or lost this group of players and their desire to put forth the effort his style demands. Either way, it will be a noisy week in the gossip pages as Pulis' fate is decided.

Swansea City put in a flat performance that was magnified by a back injury that required Tammy Abraham to exit early in a 2-0 loss to Burnley.

Paul Clement's side has really hit the skids, suffering their fourth loss on the trot this afternoon, as they conceded two first half goals to the home side while offering virtually no threat in the opposite direction. The only stretch of the match in which they did look positive going forward was about a twenty minute span in the second half, with their best chance to cut the deficit in half missed by Abraham. Late on, the striker went to ground for the second and final time of the game, requiring a stretcher. It appears to be a back injury and we should get an update on his status before the end of the weekend.

Mo Salah accelerated his emergence as a cult figure in fantasy football with a brace as Liverpool eased to a 3-0 win over Southampton.

The Egyptian got on the scoresheet first after the Dusan Tadic scuppered a chance to break on the counter and lost possession near his own area. Salah curled in with his left foot from 20 yards. The Reds grew into the game from there and Coutinho played Salah in for his second with a perfectly weighted through-ball. The Brazilian got one of his own with a follow-up after Firmino saw one of his shots spilt forward by Forster to round out the scoring for the day. Southampton failed to register a single shot on target and the pressure continues to mount on manager Mauricio Pellegrino.

Leicester City was a shell of itself, like most sides against Manchester City, in a 2-0 loss at home.

The game didn't have the lopsided scoreline featured in most Manchester City games of late, but it was one of the most dominant performances put together by any team this season. The Foxes couldn't do much but watch as Manchester City controlled the match; literally, the Foxes couldn't do much: two shots, none falling on target and 25 percent possession. Kelechi Iheanacho wasn't even given a starting chance to face his former side for the first time, coming on in the 67th minute when the match was already won.

Crystal Palace took two leads and saw it disappear in the first half alone in a 2-2 draw with Everton.

Palace jumped on the board early with the second-fastest goal in Premier League history after James McArthur pounced on a saved shot by Ruben Lofus-Cheek at the back post just 51 seconds into the match. After Scott Dann gave away a dubious penalty in the fifth minute, Wilfried Zaha gave the Eagles another lead with a goal in the 35th minute for his third goal in the last five league games. In the 35th minute, Joel Ward zipped across a pass that found Zaha for a rare, composed finish. But the lead was gone on the brink of half-time as Palace stayed bottom with only a point to show from Saturday.

Burnley continue to exceed everyone's expectations with another comprehensive win, their third straight, putting Swansea City away 2-0.

With each passing week, the Clarets must be attracting more and more neutral fans around the globe as Sean Dyche is getting the best out of all of his players. Today, he was faced with an injury blow at striker, with both Chris Wood and Sam Vokes out of the squad. In stepped Ashley Barnes for a rare start, and he would go on to score the second of Burnley's two first-half goals. The first came just before the half-hour mark, when former Swan Jack Cork nodded home a Robbie Brady cross. About ten minutes later, Barnes doubled the lead, collecting a pass from Jeff Hendrick and finding the net from the edge of the box. The usually stout defense were hardly tested, but it was another mistake-free performance nonetheless.

Everton came from behind once again to steal a point from Selhurst Park in a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace.

Oumar Niasse has proven to be one of the club's shining stars this season, and now leading scorer on five goals. The Senegal international celebrated a memorable week that saw him qualify for the World Cup and produce two goals for the Toffees when they needed him most, starting in the fifth minute when he drew a penalty, however dubious, that ended with a Leighton Baines conversion. Then, in stoppage time of the first half, Niasse took a pass from Gylfi Sigurdsson and tucked it past Julian Speroni for the final goal of the match.

Josh King returned to Bournemouth's starting lineup but it was Callum Wilson who stole the show as 10 man Bournemouth crushed Huddersfield.

Huddersfield dominated the early exchanges but the Cherries managed to grab the lead after 26 minutes through Wilson. His goal was Bournemouth's first home goal since September 15. Andrew Surman's low free-kick made its way to Wilson who fired home whilst all the Huddersfield defenders were looking for an offside flag to make it 2-0. The Terriers' defence collapsed and Bournemouth only increased that lead after Simon Francis saw red for a second bookable offence. Harry Arter struck from outside the box to make it three and then there was joy for Wilson as he marked his escape from injury hell by completing his hat-trick late on. A great day for Bournemouth and a huge relief for Eddie Howe.

Manchester City will have a fully fit Sergio Aguero available for the weekend trip to Leicester City after a mid-week scare.

The Argentina striker was forced off at half-time of the country's friendly with Nigeria during the week due to a dizzy spell and was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons. However, manager Pep Guardiola confirmed that Aguero has returned to the club, trained, and has been cleared for the weekend match. "He arrived two days ago and the doctor says he’s perfect," Guardiola said. He was conscious all the time in Argentina and he’s okay. Nothing to be worried about." However, the club will be without another Argetine with Nicolas Otamendi out serving a suspension.

Jose Mourinho made a shock announcement on Friday with Zlatan Ibrahimovic set to return today against Newcastle.

Just days after saying he expected Ibrahimovic back before the end of 2017, Mourinho confirmed in his pre-match press conference on Friday that the Swedish legend will be on the bench to face Newcastle today just seven months after suffering an ACL injury that required surgery and a long-term layoff. It's a remarkable turnaround for a 36-year-old who will now put pressure on Romelu Lukaku's starting spot. Said Mourinho: "As a start, I see him on the bench and it's where I see him. It's where he's going to be tomorrow [Saturday], on the bench."
