For the second time in as many days, an Argentine international defender has joined the ranks of Premier League players as center back Federico Fernandez officially joined Swansea.

With the departure of Chico Flores, Swansea have been in the market for a new starting center back and Fernandez's name has been linked to the club for a number of weeks. With the deal now official Swansea can start to feel comfortable that they have a strong central pairing of Fernandez and Ashley Williams. Fernandez featured four times for World Cup runners up Argentina this past summer and now makes his move from Napoli to Swansea. He should be a starter as soon as Gary Monk feels he has sufficient time in training.

The decision to leave Ryan Bennett out of the team sheet may have boggled fans and fantasy managers alike, but Alex Neil confirmed there was ample reason.

The Norwich City manager said Bennett had been sick in the week leading up to Saturday's 1-0 loss to Arsenal, and, despite training on Friday, wasn't available to face the Gunners: "We were hoping he was going to be involved. He did a bit of training on Friday, the first he'd done in a week, but he took a bad reaction when we were trying to get him ready, and he wasn't ready." Without Bennett, the Canaries defense held up fairly well with Sebastien Bassong paired up with Russell Martin while Ivo Pinto started at right back in the absence of Andre Wisdom and Timm Klose.

Danny Drinkwater can consider himself a little fortunate despite his sending off at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Drinkwater picked up his second booking of the game on 86 minutes as he hauled Memphis Depay back to give away a free-kick on the edge of the Leicester penalty area. However, it could’ve been a lot more if referee Michael Oliver had deemed that the foul had taken place inside the 18-yard area. The Foxes survived the resultant Rooney free-kick and with it earned themselves a 1-1 draw to edge closer to their first Premier League title. Andy King is expected to face Everton at the King Power next weekend while Jamie Vardy will return to the squad following his suspension.

Per Mertesacker may have kicked his last ball for Arsenal after the defender limped off during Saturdays’ game against Norwich.

Mertesacker slipped under pressure from a Norwich player during the opening exchanges of the second half and immediately grabbed his hamstring before signalling to the bench. The big German was making only his third Premier League start since early March having fallen out of favour, but this latest setback could bring an early end to his campaign. Gabriel looks set to partner Laurent Koscielny in the heart of the Arsenal defence for their two remaining league games. Mertesacker has been linked with a move away from the Emirates and could end his five-year association with the club this summer.

Andre Ayew collected his first Premier League brace as a well-oiled Swansea attack saw them topple Liverpool, 3-1.

It was all Swansea all day in a rainy afternoon at the Liberty Stadium. After steady pressure from the opening whistle, they broke through in the 20th minute when Ayew headed home from a Gylfi Sigurdsson corner. In the 33rd minute, Jack Cork carried the ball to the edge of the area and curled a beauty into the corner of the net. The Reds would pull one back in the second half but it only took two minutes for Swansea to cancel it out when Liverpool failed to clear a Jefferson Montero cross and Ayew pounced on the ball, squeezing it inside the post. Swansea were probably safe from relegation already, but today's win seals their fate and they were long overdue for a convincing performance like they had today.

Jurgen Klopp rang in the changes once again for Liverpool following their Europa League match on Thursday, but today's recipe fell flat in a 3-1 loss to Swansea City.

While the Reds were able to find success a couple of weeks ago with a similar team sheet against AFC Bournemouth, the rotation plan was not prepared for a energized Swansea side. Teenager Pedro Chirivella was handed his first league start and partnered Kevin Stewart as the deep lying midfielders to protect the back line. The Swans cut through them like a knife through hot butter. Chirivella was replaced to begin the second half, but by then it was too late. Christian Benteke scored a much-needed goal to bring the Reds back to within one, heading home a Seyi Ojo corner, but Liverpool would conceded again just two minutes later. A second yellow card and sending off of Brad Smith ended any hope of a comeback. Europa League is certainly top of mind for Liverpool and hopefully a result like today's will not dampen their spirits.

Arsenal were by no means impressive today, but Arsene Wenger pushed the right button by calling on Danny Welbeck in the second half and the forward scored the lone goal of a day as the Gunners squeak past Norwich City, 1-0.

There has been a strain on the relationship between Wenger and Arsenal supporters because of comments the manager made in the press this week and the Emirates contained a significant number of protesters. While the Gunners did not dispatch of Norwich in convincing fashion, credit is due to the manager for making the right move at the right time. After a first half in which Arsenal failed to register a shot on target, Wenger brought Welbeck on shortly before the hour mark and three minutes later, the substitute scored after Olivier Giroud headed a ball into his path. The defense picked up the slack of an otherwise lackluster attacking display and the win moves Arsenal ahead of Manchester City for now, with the latter playing tomorrow.

Norwich City's survival hopes are now in serious danger after both Newcastle and Sunderland picked up points today while the Canaries lost to Arsenal, 1-0.

While Newcastle and Sunderland are playing their best football of the season using a very settled XI, Alex Neil continues to make several changes from match to match and none of the combinations are working. The Canaries had an opportunity to get a result in a tough fixture as Arsenal were not playing their best and the points look to be up for grabs after a goalless first half. Nathan Redmond carried their biggest threat throughout the day, but his finishing touch was not accurate. In general, it has been the lack of quality in the final third all season, whether it be service or finishing, that has been lacking for Norwich and may well doom them back to the Championship after a one year visit to the top flight.

Crystal Palace continued to limp their way to the finish line with a 1-0 loss to Newcastle United.

The Eagles, who had designs on a Europa League spot during the first half of the season, have won just once since a week before Christmas in league play. They looked the better bet to score in the first half today, with Yannick Bolasie causing problems for the Magpies, but could not take advantage of their possession. Yohan Cabaye had a shot from short range but it was from a narrow angle and was saved by Karl Darlow. The two would lock horns again in the second half when it looked as though Palace were set to equalize with a penalty. They had converted every penalty they were given this season, but Cabaye's effort was poor and Darlow made the stop. At this point, the Eagles should feel fortunate the season is not a couple of games longer, or they would be staring at one of the most disastrous collapses in league history. Certainly, changes are in order this summer.

Everton ended its horrendous seven-match winless streak in league play with a 2-1 win against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.

Roberto Martinez has been under extreme scrutiny during the winless run, which dates back to a 3-1 win against Aston Villa on March 1, but the win is unlikely to do much to change his future at the club. It was Tom Cleverley who starred for the Toffees, scoring the first goal in just the seventh minute after taking a pass from Ross Barkley at the edge of the penalty box. But Everton conceded an equalizer just two minutes later to Bournemouth's Marc Pugh, who beat Tim Howard in his penultimate game at Goodison Park. But Cleverley responded just after the hour mark by setting up Leighton Baines for what ended up being the match-winner to secure the three points and move into 11th.

Sunderland waiting until the last possible moment to earn a critical point in the relegation race with a stoppage-time equalizer.

Jermain Defoe proved to be the Black Cats' hero once again after baiting Geoff Cameron into a tackle at the edge of the 18-yard box that was signaled for a penalty. The Premier League veteran stepped to the spot and delivered with a blast into the bottom right corner of the net away from a diving Jakob Haugaard in the fourth and final minute of stoppage time. The goal sealed the 1-1 draw and a point that pulls them one point past Norwich City, who has two games in hand, and into 18th place, just a point behind Newcastle.

Andre Wisdom and Timm Klose will not play any part in the Canaries relegation run-in after suffering serious knee injuries.

Wisdom has ended his loan spell at the club after the defender suffered a knee ligament injury during the dying moments of the game against Sunderland. "Andre is out for the remainder of the season," the Canaries boss told Norwich's YouTube channel. "He is away back to Liverpool now. He was a loan player, so there is no point in him hanging about here, he needs to go start his rehab there." Alex Neil also confirmed Swiss defender Timm Klose won't play again in 2015/16: "He isn't going to be right between now and the end of the season. We need to come to terms with that and move on. It's going to be a slow process for him."
