Emmanuel Adebayor starred for Tottenham as they thrashed Queens Park Rangers 4-0 in Week 2.

We all know Adebayor can blow hot or cold, but when he's happy and enjoying his football he remains one of the most complete strikers in the Premier League. Sunday was an example of the striker at his best, with an assist, a goal and a couple of shots on target, as well as a whole lot of hard work for his team. Adebayor was rewarded with 19 points in the Yahoo game, and it could be a prolific seasons if he remains the focal point of a exciting attacking line-up under Mauricio Pochettino.

Jose Mourinho provided a mixed update ahead of Thursday’s Manchester derby with Paul Pogba set to miss out because of injury.

The £89m midfielder performed as a "hero" at Turf Moor before he was replaced during the dying moments of the 2-0 win. Mourinho described Pogba as "dead" on Sunday following a gruelling week of football which included an extra-time victory over Anderlecht in the Europa League. "Dead he is for sure," said Mourinho. "If he's injured or if it's just the super accumulation of fatigue in the muscles, I don't know." However, the United manager confirmed during today’s press conference that Pogba would not be ready to face Man City having failed to train this week. Ander Herrera [ankle] has been passed fit, while Antonio Valencia is also expected to return the ranks, but Mourinho must contend with several absentees with Zlatan Ibrahimović, Marcos Rojo, Juan Mata, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones ruled out through injury: "We go with what we have and we fight with what we have."

David Silva seems certain to miss tomorrow’s Manchester derby having failed to recover the knock which forced him off at Wembley.

The Spain star was caught during the opening exchanges of Sundays FA Cup semi-final by Arsenal centre-back Gabriel, but despite trying to run the injury off, he was replaced on 23 minutes: "David [is a] real, real doubt - I don’t know if he will be ready to play," Pep Guardiola said. However, it does look like Sergio Aguero will be OK following a return to training while Gabriel Jesus is available after three months out due to a fractured metatarsal, although his "physical condition is not optimal." Fernandinho was confident of recovering earlier this week but there was no mention from Pep. Bacary Sagna could also make a surprise return but John Stones is struggling with an unspecified muscular problem and is likely to be absent again.

A Manchester derby never needs more storylines than the match itself, but the striker situation at Manchester City is an alluring one.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola confirmed that Gabriel Jesus will return to the squad after missing the last two-and-a-half months with a foot injury, just in time for the derby. Meanwhile, Sergio Aguero has also been cleared of a recent injury sustaining in stoppage time at the weekend, and it looks likely that Aguero will start as Gabriel Jesus still needs to gain match fitness: "Gabriel has no pain at all so is ready but [after] three months out his physical condition is not optimal. Sergio is much better. Today he make a part of the training session. Tomorrow he will be ready."

Manchester City will be sweating on the fitness of midfielder David Silva ahead of Thursday's showdown with Manchester United.

It's a massive match for both sides as the Sky Blues sit just one point ahead of their rivals in the fourth and final Champions League spot with only six games left in the season. But while Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola confirmed Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus for the match, Silva appears to be a major doubt after leaving the club's extra-time loss to Arsenal in the FA Cup semifinals on Sunday in the 23rd minute with an injury after taking a heavy challenge from Gabriel Paulista. Said Guardiola: "David Silva real, real doubt - I don’t know if he will be ready to play after what happened in the first minutes in the semi-final."

With Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain playing very well as the primary right-sided wing-back/outside midfielder in Arsene Wenger's 3-4-3 there is an open question about what becomes of Hector Bellerin.

Given that we're only two matches into the 3-4-3 experiment at Arsenal it is hardly a fait accompli that the transition is going to become a fixture at the Emirates. That said, the combination of the new formation and the strong performances by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in that role leaves open the possibility that star right back Hector Bellerin becomes something of a square peg in a round hole for the Gunners. Any plan that relies heavily on Oxlade-Chamberlain playing the majority of a 38 match season is probably fanciful but if Bellerin isn't slotted as a regular starter coming into next season it seems likely he will want to reconsider the frequent interest in him from clubs like Manchester City and Barcelona. Maybe a shift to the left side to replace an aging Nacho Monreal. Maybe a job-share with the Ox. What's certain is that Bellerin is less valuable to fantasy managers today than he was even slumping as a regular starter a few weeks ago.

Ryan Bertrand scored a late goal against former club Chelsea but it wasn't nearly enough as the Blues beat the Saints 4-2 at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.

After a number of reunions in the tunnel leading up to the match, Ryan Bertrand can be happy with scoring a goal against his former mates but not with the outcome for his side. The Saints trailed early and often against the leaders with Eden Hazard opening the scoring after five minutes. Oriol Romeu equalized in the 24th minute but Gary Cahill put the Blues ahead to stay in first half stoppage time. Diego Costa extended the lead twice and ended it as a contest before Bertrand got his goal deep in second half stoppage time to salvage a little pride if not a useful result.

Diego Costa scored a brace as Chelsea won a critical match in the title race over Southampton 4-2.

The Brazilian Spaniard had been sputtering through the second half of the season before breaking out Tuesday. The outburst couldn't have been better timed as Spurs have crept to within four points of the lead. Eden Hazard opened the scoring followed by Gary Cahill and then Costa's brace filled out score sheet.

Victor Valdes is the only expected injury absentee for Middlesbrough who face north east rivals Sunderland at the Riverside on Wednesday.

Speaking ahead of the Tees/Wear derby, Head Coach Steve Agnew revealed Grant Leadbitter and Marten de Roon were on track to recover from respective hamstring and ankle injuries in time to face the Black Cats. Leadbitter did not to travel to Bournemouth on Saturday as a precaution due to muscular tightness, while De Roon was replaced during a first half mauling because of a problem with his ankle. But, the news from today's press conference today was good and Agnew provided a positive update: "Victor Valdes has a rib injury so will miss out [but] Grant Leadbitter and Marten de Roon have trained this morning. Everyone else is fit." The only other player expected to miss out is Gaston Ramirez, who picked up two needless yellow cards - the Uruguay international will serve a one-match ban.

Mamadou Sakho is poised to return against Tottenham on Wednesday evening as James Tomkins is set for a spell on the sidelines.

The Crystal Palace centre-back spent the remaining minutes at Anfield limping around up front after he was caught by Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic. "It's a bad injury for Tomkins," said Sam Allardyce. "I am very pleased there's nothing broken given the nature of the tackle. He may not be fit again this season. I think he [Grujic] was lucky to get a yellow, he wasn't in control and hit just above the ankle." Tomkins was the only change on Sunday, in for Sakho who was ineligible under the terms of his loan agreement, and Allardyce may be tempted to keep things nice and simple once again unless he decides to introduce some "fresh legs" for the visit of their London rivals. Loic Remy is fit and available, although the Chelsea loanee lacks match fitness, otherwise the Eagles are pretty much as you were.

Hull City striker Oumar Niasse's appeal against a three match ban incurred after his sending off last weekend has been successful.

Niasse received a contentious red card from referee Bobby Madley in Hull's 2-0 win over Watford at the KCOM Stadium on Saturday after a tackle on Watford's M'Baye Niang. The decision looked set to scupper Marco Silva's plans for the final weeks of the season, but the red card and consequent suspension have now been rescinded by the Football Association. Niasse will be available to travel to Southampton this Saturday.

Southampton manager Claude Puel has indicated that he hopes to change the culture at St Mary's of selling key players in the summer transfer window.

In recent seasons, the Saints have lost players such as Adam Lallana, Nathaniel Clyne, and many more to other Premier League sides. Speculation this season has hinted at more of the same with Van Dijk attracting plenty of interest and rumours surround the futures of Dusan Tadic, Ryan Bertrand, Cedric Soares, and Jay Rodriguez too. On the topic, Puel highlighted a concerted effort between him and the club's director of football, Les Reed: ""We work all season with Les [Reed] to see different players and I hope, of course, we can keep the maximum of our good players [this summer]," Puel said. "It’s important to continue this work [with this group of players] where we improve from the beginning of the season." It's clear Puel views continuity as key to the Saints' long-term success. On VVD, Puel admitted he can't stop rumours circulating, but reiterated that he wants to keep his captain at the club.
