Hamburg director Dietmar Beiersdorfer has confirmed the club’s interest in Tottenham midfielder Lewis Holtby.

Holtby has never really settled at White Hart Lane and spent the final few months of the last campaign on loan to Fulham. The 23-year-old is determined to get regular first team football this season, but has so far failed to start in the league under Mauricio Pochettino, and with Spurs overloaded with midfield options it could be best for all parties if Holtby was allowed to return to Germany before the transfer window closes on Sunday.

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan sustained yet another knee injury in Wednesday's League Cup win.

The German international crumpled to the ground after a tackle from Claudio Yacob in the 58th minute of a 2-1 win. It was Gundogan's first start since last December, when he suffered a torn ACL, after he returned to action over the weekend against Watford. "(Gundogan) has a small issue with his knee but not like before and I don’t think it will be anything serious," Guardiola told the media after the match.

Eden Hazard made his first start of the season in the club's 5-1 win in the League Cup against Nottingham Forest.

The Belgian midfielder sustained an ankle injury in June while on international duty, causing him to miss three months before returning earlier this month. However, manager Antonio Conte wanted to ease Hazard back into the starting XI, which he finally did as he completed the full match Wednesday. The winger recorded two assists for the Blues, helping MIchy Batshuayi secure a hat-trick in the process. Said Conte: "I hope to be with him at the final step from his injury. In my [playing] career I was injured a lot and I have a bit of experience. With him, we are managing the situation well...Eden is a top player, and he improved a lot. He can continue to improve in his career and become one of the best."

Bournemouth overcame Brighton for the second time in seven days in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening after extra time.

Both managers made extensive changes to their sides for the game, with just Liam Rosenior, Ryan Fraser, and Simon Francis surviving from the starting eleven's of their respective sides from the previous clash on Friday. Steve Cook and Junior Stanislas returned from injuries for the Cherries. Izquierdo hinted at his ability early in the encounter, forcing Boruc into a save whilst Lys Mousset and Jordan Ibe kept Brigton 'keeper Tim Krul's hands warm. The Cherries had the bulk of the second half chances too, with Stanislas missing on a number of occasions. Jamie Murphy was put through by a stray back-pass from Steve Cook but Boruc stopped his attempt. King took his goal well, beating a few defenders before placing the ball in the corner beyond Krul. Brighton offered little in ET with Bournemouth continuing to pepper Brighton's goal to no avail.

Brighton may have been defeated 1-0 after extra-time in the Carabao Cup third round but Chris Hughton was happy with his side's performance.

Only Liam Rosenior remained from the Brighton side which faced the same opposition in the league on Friday, with Tim Krul starting between the sticks behind a three man defence. "I'm delighted with the performance, not the result, because it's a competition we wanted to go through in," said the Seagulls' manager. Hughton started two novice Irishmen in midfield, Jayson Molumby and Dessie Hutchinson, whilst new arrivals Jose Izquierdo and Ezequiel Schelotto played 90 minutes each. Hughton also explained that he tried a 3-4-3 to counteract Eddie Howe's men seizing control of possession for long periods, even though they had little time to practice it.

Less than 24 hours after making his debut for the club in the Carabao Cup, Tim Krul has signed for Brighton permanently from Newcastle.

Krul had been at Newcastle since 2005 when he first arrived on English shores from the Dutch league, however a series of injuries which began whilst on international duty for the Netherlands in October 2015 saw him fall out of favour on Tyneside with Rafa Benitez. Krul was tested on numerous occasions by Bournemouth in his bow for the Seagulls, doing well to keep the scoreline to 1-0. He is currently behind Maty Ryan in the pecking order though he can realistically hope to break into the side as the season progresses. Krul has been at Brighton a few weeks, having originally signed for a season-long loan. He has signed a one-year contract after making the move permanent.

Huddersfield Town midfielder Danny Williams has emerged as an early for the trip to Turf Moor after picking up a foot injury last weekend.

The US international missed the Carabao Cup loss at Crystal Palace on Tuesday night as tests continue with Williams due for a scan within the next 24 hours. Should he miss out at Burnley, then David Wagner may look to Philip Billing to sit alongside Aaron Mooy in a 4-2-3-1. The Terriers are also sweating on the fitness of Steve Mounie who is receiving treatment for a heel injury but Colin Quaner will definitely miss game week six after sustaining a calf strain during his cameo against Leicester City. Martin Cranie and Jonathan Hogg have just returned to fitness following long-term injuries but Kasey Palmer and Jon Stankovic won’t be available for at least another two months.

Mesut Ozil has returned to training after missing the 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge through injury.

Speaking ahead of the Carabao Cup tie against Doncaster Rovers, Arsène Wenger revealed the German international is training again, but he wouldn’t be involved due to "a little inflammation of his knee." Arsenal don’t play again until Monday evening, which is likely to mean Ozil will be available for selection, although following an impressive team display last weekend I wouldn’t envisage wholesale changes. Danny Welbeck [groin] has been ruled out until after the international break, but Alexis Sanchez is better placed in terms of fitness after more competitive minutes midweek. Francis Coquelin [hamstring] will remain on the sidelines but the Arsenal boss can look to Jack Wilshere who made his first start of the season on Wednesday night.

Leicester City overcame the absence of Jamie Vardy and a torrid first-half performance as they beat Liverpool 2-0 in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

It was true game of two halves for Craig Shakespeare's side. Liverpool dominated the opening 45 minutes, creating chance after change, but were unable to put the ball in the back of the net. Having kept the match level despite conceding 18 shots in the first period, the tide turn with the second half introduction of Shinji Okazaki. The Japan international gave the Foxes the lead in the 66th minute before Islam Slimani sent the King Power Stadium into a frenzy with a stunning strike from the substitute's pass. While the result sends Leicester into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup for the first time since 2010, the two sides will meet again on Saturday in the Premier League.

West Ham secured their place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup by defeating League One side Bolton 3-0 at the London Stadium on Tuesday.

Slaven Bilic made 10 changes to his side who drew 0-0 with West Brom at the weekend, handing Montenegro international Sead Haksabanovic his debut and Marko Arnautovic his first start since being sent off against Southampton in late August. Signed from Stoke City for £25m this summer, Arnautovic put in his best effort as a Hammer, providing a free-kick for Angelo Ogbonna's powerful header to opening the score and set up Diafra Sahka in the 31st minute. The second half saw the Hammers struggle to find chances until Arthur Masuaku blasted a thunderous strike into the top corner from 25 yards in stoppage time. The cup win also marked the return of captain Mark Noble, who missed the last two league matches with a hamstring injury, and winger Nathan Holland's first-team debut off the bench.

Stoke City fielded a predominantly first team line-up but couldn't overcome Championship club Bristol City as they fell 2-0 while conceding more shots and shots on target to their lower league opponents.

Mark Hughes side have apparently grown comfortable picking up points off of the famous clubs of the Premier League while failing to do their business against the lesser lights. Hughes picked a strong squad against Bristol City but to no avail as goals in the 50th and 60th minutes dropped the Potters out of the League Cup in the third round. Kurt Zouma, Bruno Martins Indi, Kevin Wimmer, Darren Fletcher, Glen Johnson, and Maxim Choupo-Moting were among the regulars who started supplemented by one-time starters like Peter Crouch, Lee Grant, Charlie Adam. Hughes can't say he fielded a line-up of kids as Josh Tymon and Ramadan Sobhi were the only two youngsters who featured.

Huddersfield Town will be without striker Steve Mounie and deploy a much-changed side for tonight's Carabao Cup match against Crystal Palace.

Huddersfield will give some regulars a rest for the clash at Selhurst Park, making nine changes from the side that drew 1-1 with Leicester City this weekend. Collin Quaner (calf), Steve Mounié (heel), Jon Gorenc Stanković (knee) and Kasey Palmer (hamstring) are all absent from David Wagner’s First Team squad through injury. The manager revealed Mounie will not travel for the match as he is still struggling with a heel problem that forced him to miss out this weekend and fellow forward Quaner will be sidelined for 10-14 days, due to a calf injury, meaning Elias Kachunga will start upfront. Right-back Florent Hadergjonaj will make his first Terrier start since arriving from FC Ingolstadt, while Martin Cranie (hip) and Jonathan Hogg (ankle) will make their first starts of the season after recovering from injuries.
