Arsenal's star midfielder Aaron Ramsey is the top premium midfield choice for Week 3.

Arsenal seemed destined for defeat at Everton before Ramsey popped up with yet another vital goal to trigger the fight-back, and the midfielder will be fresh after missing the exhausting Champions League victory in midweek due to suspension. Expect another inspired display against Leicester in a game the Gunners need to win to ensure they don't start dropping behind the early pace-setters.

Lewis Holtby's loan deal with Hamburg has been made permanent after a successful 2014-15 season in the Bundesliga.

Holtby arrived at White Hart Lane with great promise for both Spurs and fantasy managers but it never really materialized. The short tenure of the manager that brought him to North London, Andre Villas-Boas, certainly didn't help. Nor did an only moderately successful loan spell at Fulham that saw the West London club relegated. Hamburg were no great shakes last season either but apparently he showed enough to inspire HSV to make his move permanent.

Nigel Pearson's abrupt exit from Leicester City yesterday was apparently due, at least in part, to fall out from the incident his son was involved in on the Foxes trip to Thailand.

Pearson's son and two other players were released from the club after an embarrassing video surfaced featuring the three players and a Thai prostitute. Pearson's relationship with the club had been tenuous with the Chairman sacking him in February only to see him reinstated hours later. It seemed all was forgiven after Pearson led a miraculous charge back up the table in the dying weeks of the season and secured an additional season of Premier League football. Apparently, the incident involving Pearson's son and whatever disagreements it raised between the Board and the manager were enough to send the senior Mr. Pearson packing along with his son.

Sunderland have confirmed the signing of Sebastian Coates from Liverpool on a four-year deal…

The 24-year-old centre back spent last season on loan at the Stadium of Light, making 13 appearances. That might not seem many but it is only four fewer than he made in his previous four years at Liverpool. The fee is thought to be in the region of £2 million. Coates will return for pre-season training late, after spending his summer playing Copa America. Born in Montevideo, Coates has 17 caps for Uruguay but has a Scottish father and surname. Although British commentators insist on pronouncing his name a South American sounding, ‘Ko-wah-tez’. His dad calls himself Peter Coates, as in ‘rain-coats’. It’s Sunderland’s first bit of business of the summer but unlikely to be the last, with Dutch Internationals Virgil van Dijk, Jeremain Lens and Leroy Fer all reported to be targets.

On the traditional first day of the summer window in the Premier League, the deal that will see Nathaniel Clyne depart Southampton for Liverpool is officially done.

Liverpool get their man for a reported £10m with an additional £2.5m in incentives that could be paid to the Saints based on the right back's performance. With Glen Johnson having moved on after his contract expired, the starting gig has virtually no competition for the new signing, and fantasy managers should count on seeing his name on Brendan Rodgers' first XI of the season. It shouldn't take long for Clyne to adapt to his new surroundings either - he has former teammates Adam Lallana, Ricky Lambert and Dejan Lovren to welcome him in.

Crystal Palace are in talks with PSG over the proposed £10 million transfer of French International Johan Cabaye…

Talk of a move for the French International has rumbled on for a while, but not it seems negotiations have reached a formal stage. Cabaye joined PSG from Newcastle – then managed by Palace boss Alan Pardew, of course - for £19 million in January 2014. But has struggled to make an impact and started just 13 matches last season. Aged 29 and with the Euros at the end of the coming season, Cabaye will be keen to secure regular first-team action. Palace expect competition though - London rivals Tottenham and West Ham have already declared an interest, plus Southampton are monitoring the situation having resigned themselves to losing Morgan Schneiderlin to Manchester United. It’s been a frustrating summer so far of Pardew and Palace, with interest in Loic Remy, Charlie Austin and Matt Phillips so far fruitless.

Paul Pogba has put his Man City move on ice until the outcome of the Barcelona presidential election…

The Paul Pogba transfer saga looks like rumbling on for at least another few weeks, with Man City being asked to sit tight until the results of Barcelona’s presidential elections on July 18th. The promise of which marquee signing will follow is the chief – perhaps, only – campaigning tool for potential Barca presidents. With both Joan Laporta and Josep Maria Bartomeu promising to sign Pogba. This can’t be good news for City. We know the eye-watering £70 million price tag isn’t a problem, but obviously playing second fiddle to Barca as Pogba’s preferred option might be. Another player on City’s wish list, Kevin De Bruyne has also had a ‘hands off’ notice slapped on him by his club Wolfsburg. With £145 million burning a hole in their collective pocket we can expect a third bid for Raheem Sterling this week.

Jose Mourinho has moved quickly to replace Petr Cech with a reported bid for Stoke City number one Asmir Begovic which the Potters have rejected.

The 28-year-old Begovic faces an interesting dilemma should Stoke City and Chelsea agree on transfer terms. Does he essentially give up the next three or four years of his career, prime years, for more money and some titles that he barely participates in? It seems like a cushy gig unless you're a competitor and are driven by competition. Begovic would be a strong get for the Blues if it works out but Robert Green seems to make more sense as far as being a player who can offer a great deal but would be willing to sacrifice playing time for money/titles given where he is in his career.

The agent of Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko has vehemently denied that his client held talks with Roma to discuss a potential move to Serie A.

The rumour – fuelled by the Italian press – claimed Dzeko would be used in a deal involving fellow countryman Miralem Pjanic with the midfielder moving to the Etihad. However despite claims that Dzeko would go "running" to the Giallorossi Irfan Redzepagic [his agent] dismissed any talk as nonsense revealing Dzeko has had no contact with the club and remains happy in Manchester. Following the arrival of Wilfried Bony in January competition for game time is fierce with Sergio Aguero always likely to start if fit. Dzeko was restricted to just 11 BPL starts last season and played less than a thousand minutes – his lowest return for a full season since joining back in January, 2011.

Sammy Ameobi looks set to extend his stay at Newcastle before heading out on a season long loan deal with Championship side Cardiff City believed to be interested in signing the winger.

Ameobi enjoyed his best return in a United shirt last season but his 15 starts were maybe more indicative of the club’s plight – and lack of squad depth - rather than players ability. Ameobi has spent a number of years on Tyneside and very much like his brother – Shola – promised so much but ultimately failed to deliver. A loan spell to local rivals Middlesbrough back in 2013 was intended to kick start his career gaining first team experience but the player was once again confined to the reserves on his return. With only 21 BPL starts spread across 5 season’s time is running out for Ameobi and dropping down a level to guarantee himself some game time may not be such a bad move for the former England under-21.

Nathaniel Clyne has been pictured leaving a Merseyside hospital as his move to Liverpool is close to being completed in a deal said to be worth around $16 million with a further $4 million in add-ons.

Clyne will become the sixth signing of the window joining Milner, Bogdan, Firmino, Gomez and Ings as Brendan Rodgers revamps his squad in an attempt to challenge for domestic honours. Clyne has been pivotal during his time at St Marys’ and started all but 3 BPL games last season but having entered the final year of his contract Southampton could not risk losing their England international for nothing after the player refused a new and improved $70k per week offer. His arrival is likely to mean Emre Can is moved centrally possibly in a holding midfield role although the versatile German under-21 is capable of playing in a number of positions.

Watford have confirmed that Lloyd Doyley will remain at the club until September as the club’s longest serving defender recovers from neck surgery.

Doyley went under the knife back in May to correct a minor neck problem and will remain with the BPL new boys throughout the pre-season despite being out of contract. Doyley has spent over 14 years at the club and was until last season considered a first team regular. However the Jamaican international struggled to nail down his place during the promotion winning campaign and may now be surplus to requirements. Watford have begun already their transition into the top flight by welcoming winger Diego Perotti for a club-record $11 million fee from Genoa while Austria defender Sebastian Prodl also arrives from Werder Bremen.
