The 6'4 Oscar Cardozo has an exceptional track record for Benfica (106 goals in 160) matches. He'd be a great get if this one happens.

Cardozo has now past his 30th birthday meaning that the purpose of buying him is purely staying in the Premier League. He would not likely be interested in a season in the Championship nor is he likely to have significant sell-on value. Still, for a team that didn't have anyone over 10 goals in the Championship last season, bringing in a proven top-division (even if it is Portugal's top division) forward would be a big plus.

The Press Association is reporting that Scott Sinclair's long-rumored loan move to Aston Villa is on and will be completed in the next 24 hours.

The move has been the definition of on-again-off-again but it appears that good sense will prevail in the form of a move that appears to benefit all parties. Sinclair hasn't played much since his move the Manchester City and Aston Villa need somebody, anybody, who can help them score a few more goals. Sounds like a match made in heaven to us. Maybe Villa's matches will be something closer to watchable as a result. It certainly takes Sinclair's value from zero to at least something in the same way that Joleon Lescott's move from City to West Brom did for Lescott.

After protesting that any move might be happening, Wolfsburg appear to be on the verge of signing Andre Schurrle on a permanent deal.

With Juan Cuadrado reportedly about to finalize his move from Fiorentina to Chelsea, the Blues had to find a way to balance the financial books. Their answer appears to be the long-rumored sale of out-of-favor winger Andre Schurrle to Wolfsburg. The German club have been denying that a move would happen for days but kicker is reporting that the move is now imminent.

Swansea have agreed to terms with Southampton for the purchase of defensive midfielder Jack Cork.

More shrewd and probably wise dealings from the brass at the Liberty Stadium as they were able to acquire Cork for a discount as his contract with the Saints was to run out this summer. Cork was always battling for pitch time but found himself third in the pecking order behind Morgan Schneiderlin and Victor Wanyama. He should eventually unseat veteran Leon Britton to partner Ki Sung-Yueng in the double pivot behind Gylfi Sigurdsson. Southampton actually host Swansea on Sunday, so it will be interesting to see if Cork will be available or if Southie may make the deal with the caveat that Cork can not be used against them on Sunday.

ESPNFC.com is reporting that Chelsea will land transfer target Juan Cuadrado from Fiorentina with Mohamed Salah headed in the opposite direction.

Reports of Cuadrado's arrival had been making their rounds for a couple weeks without ever feeling like they were going anywhere but that changed Thursday as club sources told ESPNFC.com that the move would happen in the next 48 hours. Cuadrado will replace the disappointing combination of Salah and Andre Schurrle who have both been in Jose Mourinho's doghouse this season. The arrival of Cuadrado may force Chelsea to sell Schurrle sooner rather than later to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.

Paul Dummett has been formally ruled out of action for Newcastle United when they face Hull City on Saturday.

Tough break for anyone looking at Dummett as a sneaky bargain pick against an abysmal Tigers attack. There is no timetable regarding his hamstring to accompany the news of his absence this weekend but one would expect that to mean he will be in contention to return next weekend. Meanwhile, Davide Santon is fit again and will be pushing for his first league start of the season.

Brendan Rodgers had some very positive things to say regarding the return of Daniel Sturridge to his XI.

According to the boss, "He has looked outstanding in training. He looks in top class condition." That quote should give fantasy managers reason to watch carefully this weekend to see if the striker can make the bench. If he does, then he looks poised to start Week 24, perfect timing as the Reds travel crosstown to Goodison Park for the reverse fixture of this year's Merseyside derby. With a few days left in the transfer window, perhaps now would be a good time to cut losses on Mario Balotelli.

Tottenham survived a strong fightback from League One side Sheffield United to set up a League Cup final with Chelsea after another late goal from Christian Eriksen.

After Spurs had won the first leg 1-0 they appeared to be in cruise control when Eriksen's magnificent first-half free-kick put them 2-0 up on aggregate. The score stayed that way until the final 15 minutes, when Sheffield United's 18-year-old substitute Che Adams struck twice in three minutes, bringing the prospect of extra time into focus. However, Eriksen saved Spurs once again, controlling a fine through-ball from Harry Kane and finishing smartly to secure a 3-2 aggregate victory. It was the fourth time this season that the Danish star has scored decisive goals in the 87th minute or later.

Branislav Ivanovic is an early doubt for Saturdays’ top-of-the-table clash against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge after the Capital One goalscoring hero picked up a nasty foot injury against Liverpool.

Ivanovic grabbed the all-important winning goal on Wednesday night to secure a Wembley appearance - Capital One cup final – and after 120 gruelling minutes the defender revealed he had been playing through the pain-barrier as his lacerated foot seeped blood through his boots. It’s unclear whether Ivanovic will need stitches but Mourinho did confirm the player would be assessed ahead of the game along with Fabregas [hamstring] and Luis [calf]. Diego Costa is also facing a three game ban – violent conduct – for his ‘alleged’ stamp on Emre Can – the Spanish international has until 6pm GMT to lodge an appeal.

Sam Allardyce will need to check on a number of players ahead of the trip to Anfield after last weekends’ bruising encounter against Bristol City in the FA Cup.

Alex Song, Carl Jenkinson and James Tomkins have all been in the treatment room this week and both defenders are rated as ‘touch & go’ although there was better news as regarding James Collins [back] who will join the main group today. However the Hammers’ are unlikely to welcome back Cheikhou Kouyate despite his elimination from the African Cup of Nations – the whereabouts of the holding midfielder is currently unknown. Diafra Sakho is expected to be available although the Senegalese FA are considering a formal complaint for his non-appearance in Equatorial Guinea because of a back injury – the proposed punishment would suggestion a domestic ban for the West Ham striker but Allardyce "is unconcerned" adding the club has done nothing wrong.

Arsene Wenger indicated in his Friday news conference that while Danny Welbeck won't be ready for Aston Villa in Week 23 that he will be ready for Spurs in Week 24.

Arsenal are flush with attacking options right now so the absence of Danny Welbeck hasn't been felt to any great extent in recent weeks. That said, Wenger indicated that Alexis Sanchez has a "hamstring complaint" that could keep him out of the line-up against Aston Villa. Should Sanchez miss not only the Villa match but additional time, Wenger will be thrilled to have Welbeck as an option along with Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mesut Ozil as he looks to compliment Olivier Giroud in a crucial match for the Gunners in the race for a Champions League spot.

Arsene Wenger has indicated that Alexis Sanchez has a hamstring concern and could miss Arsenal's Week 23 match with Aston Villa at the Emirates.

Alexis Sanchez has played a lot across all competitions this season coming off of a busy summer at the World Cup. The fact that he has a hamstring issue that could cause him to miss a match shouldn't be surprising. Arsene Wenger hasn't ruled the player out yet but has indicated that there won't be any decision made until after salary cap league transfer deadlines have expired for Week 23. The safe bet is to exclude him from your roster or at least have a strong bench option in place. For single ownership formats, the concern is that you will need a replacement from either the Arsenal vs. Villa match or the Southampton vs. Swansea match as all other matches will have taken place before Sanchez's fate is known.
