Manuel Pellegrini has told Joleon Lescott he will reject any offers for the England defender after insisting that the 30-year-old is a key figure in his plans at Manchester City.

It would make sense for City to want to keep Lescott following Kolo Toure's move to Liverpool and Real Madrid’s refusal to sell them Pepe. Matija Nastasic and captain Vincent Kompany are likely to remain first choice, so Lescott will need some guarantees of a decent proportion of first team football if he is to stay, with the World Cup coming up next summer.

In a match without the availability of a pure striker, Manchester City were able to find their scoring shoes in the second half, as a David Silva brace would grab the headlines in their tidy 3-0 win over Crystal Palace.

Going into the locker room at the half 0-0, the storyline looked to be how ineffective City were without a true striker as the versatile James Milner filled the role in a false nine. They plenty of possession and eight shots, but none were on target at the break. The dominance of possession would eventually undo the Palace defense though, as Silva opened the scoring early into the 2nd half, scoring off a deflection after being fed by Pablo Zabaleta. It was Silva again, this time firing home from a Aleksandar Kolarov cross. Yaya Toure would wrap up the 2nd half onslaught with a signature powerful surge that gave him his fourth goal in his last six league matches. Its off to West Brom on Boxing Day for the Sky Blues, who are at least temporarily level on points at the top of the table now with Chelsea.

Stephane Sessegnon had his second consecutive strong weekend as he provided assists on both of West Brom's goals in their 3-2 loss at Loftus Road.

Sessegnon re-emerged from an extended period of injury and ineffectiveness last weekend as West Brom managed a rare victory. He tried his best against Queens Park Rangers as he headed on a corner that Joleon Lescott headed home to give Albion an early 1-0 lead. The Baggies' second goal came through Valera who performed a beautiful give and go with Sessegnon at the edge of the box before scoring. Unfortunately, Alan Irvine's men couldn't hold on to the lead as Charlie Austin hit for a hat trick that saw QPR draw even with West Brom in the table.

Erik Lamela finally opened his Premier League account, scoring his first in style, as Tottenham were able to hang on with a 2-1 win over Burnley.

While normally a struggle for Spurs to make a statement early in matches, they were able to do so today as Harry Kane opened the scoring twenty minutes in, heading home a cross from Nacer Chadli, giving him his first home goal in league play this season. It was Lamela that opened everyone's eyes in the 38th minute though, when he cut left from his right flank position and sent a dazzling curling effort over the box and into the top left corner of the Claret goal. Lamela is still a work in progress but the talent is there waiting to be harnessed and we saw a fine glimpse of it today. Expect his pitch time to increase.

Radamel Falcao scored a header from a hard-driven Ashley Young cross to draw United even in their 1-1 draw at Villa Park.

Once again, Manchester United weren't great over the course of 90 minutes. This time it caught up with them as the only managed a single point at Villa Park despite playing a man up for a significant portion of the second half. The good news was that Falcao started and completed 90 minutes and Angel Di Maria came in as a second half substitute. The bad news was that despite Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, Falcao, Di Maria and Mata all playing at least some of the match they could only manage a single goal.

Ashley Barnes delivered a wonder-strike that brought Burnley level with Tottenham in a fast-paced first half, but Spurs would go on to score once more and take all the points in a 2-1 final.

It was Barnes' goal last month that gave Burnley their first victory of the season and today it looked as if there was more magic in store as the Clarets were looking to get their first win on a London ground in league history. After Spurs went up first, Burnley didn't take long to level the score. George Boyd pounced on a miscue by Spurs and was able to dribble toward the box and fed the ball into Barnes who took a quick touch a drilled a torpedo into the top corner. The second half offered little in attack for either side and though Burnley had a bit of a flurry late in added time, they came up short finding the equalizer. The Clarets host Liverpool next.

Christian Benteke scored a goal and was generally strong as Aston Villa picked up a point against visiting Manchester United.

The story of the match was Aston Villa's quality defending in the face of wave after wave of world class attackers and then down a man. Christian Benteke provided the attacking impetus with a beautiful curling goal and a few other strong attempts. Aston Villa were shorthanded due to injury and suspension and will be very happy to have picked up a point against a team that have been churning out wins despite these sorts of mediocre performances.

Charlie Austin brought his team back from a 2-0 deficit for a 3-2 win with a hat trick to take Harry Redknapp's men out of the relegation zone.

His first came from the penalty spot after Leroy Fer was held in the penalty area. Austin went on to score two more goals from open play and QPR, who had gone behind on goals from Joleon Lescott and Valera, scored a massive victory in the battle to avoid relegation. It may just be Charlie Austin and his goalscoring that provides the difference between the Rs and relegation.

James McArthur scored a goal but it looked to be wrongly deemed offside and that summed up a forgettable day for Crystal Palace as they were run over by Manchester City at the Etihad, 3-0.

Palace took a safe approach hoping City would not have their usual attack flowing minus a true striker in their XI and for the first 45 minutes, the plan was working. Though City had the lion's share of possession and took 8 first half shots to just one for the Eagles, Palace's shot was the only one that was on target. City began to click as the second half picked up and Palace found themselves down 2-0 in quick fashion. McArthur looked to have given them a fighting chance in the 68th minute though, when he scored from a Yannick Bolasie cross. The goal should have stood but it was adjudged offside. A bitter pill to swallow as the outcome may have been different, but in all likelihood, City were going to get three points from this regardless.

Joe Hart has signed a long-term contract that will keep him at Manchester City until the end of the 2018-19 season.

The England goalkeeper, 27, joins Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko, Aleksandar Kolarov, Samir Nasri and David Silva in signing a new contract with the club in 2014. Hart told the club’s official website: "I’m really happy, I’ve been here a long time now and I want to keep that going. Hart joined the club from Shrewsbury Town and has made 276 appearances since.

Radamel Falcao is reportedly nearing full fitness for the first time since arriving at Old Trafford.

Falcao was surprisingly left on the bench last weekend with James Wilson getting the start opposite Robin van Persie. It's hard to imagine that Falcao won't get at least a couple of starts over the next eleven days given the tight grouping of fixtures coming up. With United playing one of the tea time fixtures in Week 17 we won't get to see their starting line-up before Yahoo and PL.com lock down transfers so you'll be taking a risk having Falcao in your starting line-up for sure.

Theo Walcott, out with a groin injury since early November, faces a late fitness test in his efforts to return to the line-up for the second time this season.

It seems unlikely with Olivier Giroud, Danny Welbeck and Alexis Sanchez available that Walcott would be risked as anything more than a late-match change/infusion of pace substitute. It is more likely that he will return to the line-up in a lower pressure match like the Boxing Day visit of Queens Park Rangers.
