Tim Krul finished his first week of training and is on-track to play in Newcastle's pre-season matches against Rangers and Braga.

Robbie Eliot has done well in Krul's absence, but Newcastle fans will be boosted by the news of his return. Krul has been a solid fantasy keeper and comes in this season reasonably priced. If the Magpies can find their form of two season's ago, Krul will see lots of investment again.

Man City are getting mixed messages from Kevin de Bruyne, but are still yet to formally place a bid for the Belgian playmaker…

As a transfer ‘saga’ Man City’s pursuit of Kevin de Bruyne has perhaps overtaken that of Raheem Sterling, which had a happy ending. But is still someway short of Paul Pogba, which didn’t. Although no formal bid has been, the de Bruyne affair took another couple of twists this weekend with the Wolfsburg midfielder saying in The Sun newspaper that a return to England would be ‘tempting’. But his current manager Deiter Hecking insists that he will stay in the Bundesliga. Perhaps, de Bruyne’s positive comments were made before Man City’s first half horror show against Stuggart. And Hecking’s made after half an hour, when City were four goals down…

Problems are mounting for boss Roberto Martinez ahead of Everton’s opener with Watford, with injuries to several first team players…

Roberto Martinez has bullishly responded to speculation linking center-back John Stones to a move to Chelsea (or possibly Manchester United). Stones was impressive against Villareal before going off – as a precaution - following a slight knock on the ankle he had surgery on last season. Kevin Mirallas also picked up an ankle injury and Romelu Lukaku missed the match – again, a precaution – after pulling up in Everton’s previous friendly. And now it appears Gerard Deulofeu will miss this weekend’s match after picking up a hamstring injury. After a frustrating and uncertain summer Everton need a positive start. Attracting players and, of course, keeping current ones will not be any easier if they don’t hit the ground running…

Crystal Palace have confirmed the signing of Sunderland forward Connor Wickham for a fee in the region of £7 million…

Crystal Palace have added their fourth signing of the summer, agreeing a £7m fee for Sunderland forward Connor Wickham. The fee, which could rise to £9m with add-ons, looks better business for Sunderland than Palace based on Wickham’s goal return in his four seasons there. Just 15 strikes in 91 matches led to Wickham being mainly used as a left-sided attacker, rather than the central role he is expected to fill at Palace. His arrival looks to have pushed Dwight Gayle down the pecking order, who now looks set for a season-long loan move to Fulham. Wickham will partner, or compete with Chelsea starlet Patrick Bamford in the Palace attack.

Enner Valencia could miss up to three months with a knee and ankle injury.

Valencia hurt both his knee and ankle in West Ham's friendly last week and will miss significant time. He won't need surgery, which is a plus, but 12 weeks is a long time to miss at the beginning of the season. West Ham can't catch a break with injuries in the past few seasons and this one hurts as much as any they've suffered in recent years. Look for Diafra Sakho to step up while Valencia is out.

Roberto Martinez has confirmed that Kevin Mirallas and John Stones will be assessed after the pair were substituted against Villareal due to ankle injuries.

However the Toffees boss didn’t seem overly concerned post-match "I don’t expect it to be anything too serious" suggesting there withdrawal was more of a precaution. Romelu Lukaku was missing from Sundays’ testimonial [for Duncan Ferguson] but the striker was rested after feeling discomfort in his hamstring midweek while Gerard Deulofeu was another absentee despite early optimism that the Spanish winger would be fine following his recent thigh problem. Everton are already struggling with Tony Hibbert, Aidan McGeady, Mo Besic, Steven Pienaar and Darron Gibson out of the opener although they have been boosted by the return to fitness of Leighton Baines and Bryan Oviedo.

Peter Odemwingie scored a headed goal between two Koln goals as Stoke City dropped their final pre-season tune-up in advance of the start of the Premier League season.

Ibrahim Afellay got his first start for the Potters but couldn't help them get a pre-season win as Koln took home the title in their pre-season tournament. Peter Odemwingie, who came on as a substitute for Afellay, got a goal that will help propel him into the start of the new season but the Potters weren't as lucky. Stoke City started Butland, Johnson, Marc Muniesa, Teixeira, Pieters, Sidwell, van Ginkel, Walters, Ireland, Afellay, and Joselu for the affair.

News broke on Sunday morning that Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere would miss the Community Shield game as a precaution after injuring his ankle during a training ground session on Saturday.

Wenger confirmed soon after that the injury was not a "concern" and the England international was expected to be available for GW1 as the initial prognosis suggested 2-5 days. However following the win over Chelsea the Arsenal boss appeared to contradict himself "We have no big injuries at the moment apart from Jack Wilshere." Now interpret that how you may but BIG could refer to ‘a key first team squad member’ or he may be referencing the injury itself. The latter certainly fits with reports this evening implying Wilshere is a major doubt for the opening weekend. The good news though – the problem occurred to Wilshere’s right ankle and not his troublesome left.

Sam Gallagher has joined MK Dons on a season-long loan.

The Southampton striker isn't getting any playing time with the Saints due to Graziano Pelle, Shane Long, and the returning Jay Rodriguez so this is a very good move for the youngster. He needs experience at this stage of his career and he'll have every opportunity to prove himself at MK Dons.

Jordy Clasie's hamstring injury doesn't seem serious and the Southampton midfielder "may be available for gameweek one".

Clasie suffered the injury in Southampton's 3-0 win over Vitesse Arnhem on Thursday and was initially doubtful for week one. The Saints are reporting that his injury "looks positive" now and he has a realistic chance of playing in week one. We've upgraded his status to questionable, although it may jump to probable throughout this next week.

West Ham lost their final pre-season friendly to Werder Bremen by a score of 2-1.

The Hammers took the lead through Diafra Sakho but couldn't hold on as they let Werder Bremen come back and win through a brace by Anthony Ujah. With Enner Valencia injured, West Ham will be relying on Diafra Sakho a lot at the start of the season. Sakho was a great fit the Hammers last season while he was healthy and he should be drafted in fantasy leagues in the middle rounds. He is definitely an option in the premierleague.com game at a price of 6.5.

Diego Costa has suffered a setback in his recovery from a hamstring and is questionable for week one.

Jose Mourinho cleared Diego Costa to play in today's Community Shield match yesterday but the striker has apparently suffered a setback since he was left out of today's squad. Mourinho is "unsure" if Costa will be ready for week one, which is a huge concern for Chelsea. Costa has had hamstring issues for a few years now and could be dealing with this problem all season long. Loic Remy gains a lot of fantasy value with these news and managers should be looking to draft him in the later rounds. As for Costa, he should be avoided as he is bound to bring headaches all season long, especially with Mourinho's secretive "injury reports".
