Championship side Wigan are close signing James McClean after Sunderland accepted an undisclosed fee for the Republic of Ireland winger.

After an impressive debut campaign in 2011-12 McClean was extremely disappointing last season and struggled to hold down a place in the side - often not making the bench. There had been reports that Paolo Di Canio was going to give him another shot for the coming season, but after in huge influx of new midfield players at the Stadium of Light it seems the 24-year old was deemed surplus to requirements. Charis Mavrias could be the man to replace him, with Sunderland linked to the young Greek winger throughout the summer.

Yaya Toure was uninspiring for the third week in a row and finished with negative two fantasy points in Manchester City's 1-0 loss to Stoke.

Toure now has negative two points for the season after putting up zeroes in his first two matches. He put up six shots but only one hit the target and he also committed six fouls including a dive that resulted in a yellow card. The midfielder wasn't getting much help from his teammates as the two starting strikers, Sergio Aguero and Stevan Jovetic, didn't create much danger for Stoke. Edin Dzeko came in off the bench and gave City a few inspiring moments, so he may be given a start next week.

The Baggies conceded early and often at the Liberty Stadium as they fell for the first time this season.

The match was best summed up by a sequence in the second half where Ben Foster conceded an indirect free kick in the box by handling a back pass from a defender. On the ensuing free kick someone in the Baggies' wall knocked a shot on target down with his arm. The sequence didn't result in a goal but it should have and it underscored the gulf in class between the two sides on the day.

Grazianno Pelle scored to help Southampton to a 3-1 win over West Ham United.

Pelle has been good in his first three Premier League matches but has been getting extremely unlucky. He had a few shots come close to goals and one ruled out for offside earlier in this match. At the end of the day, he finished with a goal to help Southampton win in inspiring fashion. The first half was a dull but the second was exciting as the Saints found their groove and went out to attack. Dusan Tadic looks like the real deal and James Ward-Prowse has been great as well. The future is bright at St. Mary's.

Swansea's dream start to the season continued with an easy 3-0 win over West Brom that featured a Nathan Dyer brace.

Nathan Dyer scored his first just seconds after the opening whistle from a Gylfi Sigurdsson backheel. Wayne Routledge scored a crazy jumping side volley for the Swans second. Dyer completed the scoring in the second half when he beat Ben Foster to his near side. Wilfried Bony should have scored as well seeing one great chance go over the bar and another kept out of the goal by a defender's arm without it being called.

Stoke forward Mame Biram Diouf slotted home a spectacular solo goal in the second half that was enough for his side to defeat Manchester City 1-0.

The goal was spectacular but Joe Hart should have done better and will be blamed for the goal today. This is a big blow for Manchester City who have not looked as impressive in their title defense this year. A home defeat puts pressure on the team and the coach, especially when it's against a mid-table squad. Stoke City, on the other hand, now have four points from their first three matches, putting them in ninth place, right around where they belong.

Charlie Austin scored the only goal of the game as Queens Park Rangers grabbed their first points of the season.

Harry Redknapp's came into the game off the back of three straight defeats without scoring a goal, but Charlie Austin has finally given his manager something to smile about. Austin played as the main striker with Loic Remy excluded from squad prior to a move to Chelsea, and he scored from close-range following a corner on the stroke of half-time. Sunderland put the home side under plenty of pressure, but Rob Green deserves credit for a couple of remarkable saves to keep his side in the lead, and QPR are out of the relegation zone.

In an enjoyable contest where the lead changed hands, the standout performer for Newcastle United was Rolando Aarons, an 18 year old prospect who notched a goal and an assist as a substitute as the Magpies played Crystal Palace to a 3-3 draw.

Who is this kid? Replacing Yoan Gouffran midway through the 2nd half, Alan Pardew found unveiled a secret weapon in the 18 year old Jamaican midfielder. He headed in a Remy Cabella corner to level the match in the 73rd minute, then struck a glorious curling effort that clipped the far corner of the bar. Mike Willamson was there to clean up the rebound and gave Newcastle the late lead. They would however concede in stoppage time to settle for a draw. Hard to say how much playing time Aarons bought himself today, but if you want to take a chance on him, stash him as your 5th mid now as he is currently only a shade over 1m.

Burnley turned in a positive defensive display and went toe to toe with Manchester United to earn their first point of the season in a 0-0 final.

Burnley are the latest to take advantage of Manchester United's "transitional period" by keeping their mistakes at a minimum and getting their share of attacking chances. Jones came closest, when he smashed the bar by way of a free kick. He would again challenge De Gea about a half hour in, but a lack of quality from the supporting attack kept Burnley from breaking through. Jones did show enough threat to creep into the fantasy radar as he currently costs just over 5m.

Angel Di Maria was thrust immediately into Manchester United's starting XI and showed some promising displays but United as a unit once again failed to impress both attacking and defending, settling for a 0-0 against Burnley.

United were actually lucky to come away with a point in this one as the newest savior tasked to successfully replace Sir Alex Ferguson, Louis van Gaal still waits for his first win in charge. Di Maria had stretches of brilliance but also looked understandably rough around the edges as he begins his career under van Gaal. Apologists for United's slow start will point out that Robin van Persie is still not up to speed and the likes of Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo have yet to show their influence, but at the end of the day, they played Burnley and this fixture should be earning them three points given the talent at their disposal. The Red Devils now have the international break to work toward a better league showing, but if they cannot easily dispose of QPR at Old Trafford in Week 4, you can officially hit the panic button.

Stephen Ireland will be held out of the Stoke City squad for Week 3 as he nurses a rib injury back to health.

Ireland wasn't likely to see a great deal of playing time with the arrivals of Steve Sidwell, Bojan Krkic, and Victor Moses to the midfield ranks but a rib injury will ensure that he doesn't figure in Week 3. It seems likely he'll be ready to return after the international break.

Jonny Evans returned to active duty against MK Dons this week and will likely eye a return to league action this weekend against Burnley

He isn't likely to put it on his resume given the embarrassing result but Jonny Evans is fit again and featured for Louis Van Gaal in the Capital One Cup this past week. With a central defense that featured little experience after Chris Smalling went out last weekend and Marcos Rojo still awaiting a work permit, Evans is likely to be welcomed back to the starting eleven this weekend as United search for a much-needed victory.
