Liverpool's Luis Suarez was fined and charged with violent conduct by the FA for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic.

Suarez bit Ivanovic on the right arm while in the box and now faces potentially a lengthy ban as a consequence. This is Suarez's second bout of trouble since moving to England, previously having issues with racism. In response to the biting scandal, the Football Association said, "The incident was not seen by the match officials and has therefore been retrospectively reviewed. It is alleged that the conduct of Suarez constitutes violent conduct and it is The FA's contention that the standard punishment of three matches that would otherwise apply is clearly insufficient in these circumstances."

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has confirmed midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson's return to the club was discussed as part of a deal that could see defender Ben Davies go to Tottenham Hotspur.

Despite some good goals Sigurdsson has never settled at Spurs, finding the bloated midfield options difficult to navigate to allow him his fair share of first team football, and rumours of a move have grown stronger over the past 6 months. One would expect him to welcome a move back to Swansea - where he played the best football of his career - and this could help Spurs seal a deal for Ben Davies, who is reportedly Mauricio Pochettino's first choice to fill the left-back spot for the new season. However, a deal still sounds some way away, with swap deals notoriously complicated and with both clubs still haggling over the value of both players.

According to Sky Sports Sources, West Ham have made a £12m bid for striker Enner Valencia.

The Pachuca attacker had a great World Cup with Ecuador and can play as both a striker and a midfielder/winger. He can be a great fit in West Ham supporting Andy Carroll from the wing or from a slightly less advanced position. West Ham have made a series of moves this summer that are expected to boost their attack and this would be the cherry on top. If Valencia makes the move to London, we would expect the Hammers to be a firm candidate for a top 10 finish in the Premier League next season.

Serial biter Luis Suarez had his appeal of his four-month FIFA suspension rejected by the sport's governing body.

With the rest of the World Cup going on, it seems like an under-reported story that FIFA has ventured outside their usual jurisdiction to impose a worldwide ban on Luis Suarez for four months. The Uruguay and Liverpool forward appealed the suspension and that appeal has now been rejected. He still has the option to appeal to further to the Court of Arbitration for Sport who might, indeed, indicate that FIFA can only ban him from playing for Uruguay. Regardless, this turn of events likely has zero impact on Suarez's likely move to Barcelona that continues to rumble forward.

Tottenham have announced that Hugo Lloris has committed his future to the club with the signing of a new five-year contract.

This is excellent news for Spurs. Lloris has been a outstanding performer for the since joining in 2012 and after a terrific World Cup the club have moved quickly to secure his services for the foreseeable future. The 27-year-old had been vocal about his disappointment after Spurs missed out on Champions League football last season and had been linked to PSG this summer, but it seems Daniel Levy and new manager Mauricio Pochettino played a big part in the Frenchman choosing to remain at White Hart Lane. "I spoke with the Chairman and I know the Club is as ambitious as ever," said Lloris. "It’s very important to feel at home at a club and for my family to feel well. I enjoy a great relationship with the Club and the fans. The arrival of Mauricio Pochettino is important as well. I have a good feeling with him. He is also ambitious."

Emanuele Giaccherini's agent has stated his client wants to remain at Sunderland.

Giaccherini was Paolo Di Canio's biggest signing of last summer but the winger failed to settle in English football and ended up playing a bit-part role as new manager Gus Poyet orchestrated the great escape from relegation. The lack of game time meant the winger missed out on Italy's World Cup squad and many observers expected him to leave for Galatasaray, but his agent insists he wants to remain at Sunderland.

Roma have set a deadline for Manchester City to buy Morocco’s Mehdi Benatia.

The Guardian are reporting that Roma are trying to force City’s hand by setting a 21 July deadline for the sale of Benatia, and want £30million for the central defender. However, City's preference is Porto’s £35million rated Eliaquim Mangala, so the Premier League champions are unlikely to be pressured in to buying their second choice until the chances of a deal for Mangala are 100% over. The arrival of either player would provide a new first choice partner for Vincent Kompany in the heart of defence, which would raise questions over the future of Martin Demichelis and Matija Nastasic.

Argentina defeated the Netherlands 4-2 on penalties in the World Cup semi-final.

The match was a slow one, finishing 0-0 in regular time. Neither team created many chances and overall produced one of the least exciting matches in this tournament. In extra-time, Louis van Gaal subbed out Robin van Persie to bring on Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, a move that ended up hurting them in the penalty shootout. Jasper Cillessen did not save a single penalty and van Persie wasn't there to take one. Instead, Ron Vlaar missed the Netherlands' first penalty kick and the Europeans never recovered. Argentina will face Germany in the final on Sunday.

Chelsea have signed Croatian midfielder Mario Pasalic from Hajduk Split.

The Blues lost Frank Lampard this summer but have done more than enough to replace him. They've signed Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas and now have signed a prospect for the future. Mario Pasalic is a 19-year-old central midfielder whose favorite player is Frank Lampard. Pasalic will take part of Chelsea's summer tour and pre-season training but there is a chance that he gets loaned out in order to get regular playing time. Pasalic is not ready to be a starter for Chelsea and he will need to develop a bit more to make it as a regular. The best case scenario for him this season is to be a backup for Fabregas and Nemanja Matic.

Manchester City have completed the signing of goalkeeper Willy Caballero from Malaga on a three-year deal.

Caballero played under Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini when he was in charge of Malaga between 2010-2013 and was regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in La Liga. The 32-year-old stopper joins the club to provide back-up and competition for Joe Hart, after Costel Pantilimon left to join Sunderland last month.

Despite having just signed a one-year extension, Patrice Evra has been linked with a move to Juventus in Serie A.

The arrival of Luke Shaw at Old Trafford for a huge transfer fee means that Patrice Evra is unlikely to be the sure fire starter he has been throughout his tenure at United. This has apparently encouraged Juventus to make an offer for the French international who apparently wants to continue on as a regular starter on a Champions League team. The rumor mill has United chasing Swiss standout Ricardo Rodriguez as a replacement (quite why a player in his prime coming off a great World Cup would sign up to be a reserve behind Luke Shaw is beyond me but that's what the rumors are saying).

Reports across Europe indicate that Arsenal are at the finish line with the signings of Mathieu Debuchy and Alexis Sanchez from Newcastle and Barcelona respectively.

Arsenal are set to unveil their new Puma kits on Thursday. There is a line of thinking that says that they are holding up formal announcements on Mathieu Debuchy and Alexis Sanchez, both strongly rumored to be done deals, to coincide with the press event for the new kits. The kit maker would certainly be off to a great start with a strong association with what are widely viewed as strong moves by the North London club. It could be a big day at the Emirates tomorrow indeed.
