Liverpool's defense nearly squandered a strong attacking performance by giving up a penalty late to Stoke but debutante Simon Mignolet came to the rescue.

The arrival of Simon Mignolet this summer created some controversy around Anfield this summer given the perceived poor treatment of Pepe Reina. Mignolet appeared a little nervous early but made some strong saves and eventually saved the day when Daniel Agger gave up a penalty late in the match. Mignolet dove to his right and saved Jon Walters' spot kick, preserved the win and ensured himself a very strong fantasy day as well.

Paul Clement expects Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham to overcome a back problem in time for this weekend.

The Swansea attacker was helped off on Saturday, having tried [and failed], to play through the pain at Turf Moor after suffering a lower back issue. However, Clement believes it wasn’t anything serious despite Abraham leaving the field on a stretcher. "His back went into spasm, but I don't think there is an injury there. He is a bit stiff at the moment, but we think he will be okay for Bournemouth." The 20-year-old was not part of the training group on Tuesday but he is expected to rejoin the first-team at some point this week. Should there be any doubts regarding the fitness of Abraham, then Clement maybe tempted to rest his top scorer given that Wilfried Bony is back in contention after recovering from the niggling hamstring strain which has hampered his progress since returning to the club.

Manchester City will be pushed to the limits of its bench following another injury to a defensive starter.

The club is already without starting left-back Benjamin Mendy and will now be without John Stones for at least the next month after he suffered a hamstring injury against Leicester City over the weekend, with saw him leave in the 31st minute. Without Stones, look for Vincent Kompany and Eliaquim Managal to fill in, although that leaves the club thin in defense. Said manager Pep Guardiola: "He will be out for a long time, I think -- a muscular problem -- maybe four to six weeks. The only problem is we have a lot games and John was in that moment -- the way he played with the ball and without it, leading the back four."

Bournemouth will have to do without Simon Francis for their Gameweek 13 clash with Swansea after the defender was sent off for two bookable offences on Saturday.

The 32 year old has been Eddie Howe's first choice right-back so far this season but is now likely to be replaced by Adam Smith in the starting line-up for the trip to Wales. Francis was sent for an early shower just before the interval in the Cherries' 4-0 win over Huddersfield after two fouls in quick succession on the elusive winger Rajiv van La Parra. Bookings were the only blot on a good performance with three other Bournemouth players also receiving yellows. Cook, Arter and Adam Smith are now all just one caution from picking up a one game ban for accumulating 5 cards already in 2017/18. Eddie Howe commented one those "few lads looking over their shoulders" post-match as well as voicing his agreement with the referees decision to send off his player.

Stoke City led twice on Monday night but had to settle for a 2-2 draw with Brighton at the Amex Stadium.

Stoke jumped out to an early lead after 28 minutes when Choupo-Moting scored his first goal since hitting a brace against Manchester United back in September. Xherdan Shaqiri suppled a 40-yard floated ball over the top for the striker, who did well to collect and slot home from close. Brighton equalized through Pascal Gross on 44 minutes, but in first-half stoppage time Kurt Zouma restored Stoke's lead when he headed his first goal for the club. However, the visitors saw their second lead of the match slip away when Jose Izquierdo fired home on the hour mark. The draw sees Mark Hughes' side stay 15th in the table, four points above the drop zone.

Everton is gearing up for the return of two key starters with Yannick Bolasie and Seamus Coleman closing on a return.

While initially hoping for the duo to return this month, Everotn caretaker manager David Unsworth said Bolasie and Coleman will be back from long-term injuries for the New Year, with Bolasie even hoping for a return in the next couple weeks. "Probably late December, going into the new year. Probably Yannick will be a bit before but certainly Seamus will be going into January. They are two massive players, aren’t they, and if we can get those two players back into the team and James McCarthy as well, we will look a lot stronger.

Tony Pulis has been sacked as the manager of West Bromwich Albion effective immediately after a run of poor results to end last season and start this campaign.

Funny how expectations change. West Brom were the poster club when it came to the "yo-yo" approach to promotion and safety. Albion purposely invested frugally over a couple of one-year trips to the Premier League putting the finances and structure in place to eventually settle in in the top flight. That goal achieved, the notion of playing dull football and just getting by was no longer enough and so survival master Tony Pulis was sacked as the season started looking like a fight for survival rather than a push forward to mid-table. It was a reasonable decision given that Pulis has been spending on players who should have the club moving toward mid-table safety. Gary Megson will replace Pulis on an interim basis until a full-time replacement is found.

Danny Rose was said to be fuming following his omission from the squad which travelled to the Emirates on Saturday.

Fresh from his involvement with England during the international break, many expected Rose to reclaim the left-back spot, despite the early season form of Ben Davies. However, the recently returned 27-year-old was nowhere to be seen, and it was later confirmed by Mauricio Pochettino, amid growing speculation of a bust-up, that he made a "technical decision" on leaving Rose out. "Remember, we played without Danny for ten months, so we need to build up his fitness and for this game we decided it would be better for him to train rather than be on the bench." But, despite his reasoning, there are many that believe Rose could be set to leave with Manchester United monitoring the situation closely. Mourinho is a long-term admirer and any deal could be sweetened by the inclusion of forgotten full-back Luke Shaw who would be keen to work under the Argentine again.

Erik Lamela has made his long-awaited return from injury after more than a year on the sidelines.

The Argentine ended 13 months of misery when he was named in the starting XI for the U23s who lost a five-goal thriller to rivals Chelsea. "The Argentine, not seen in a Spurs shirt since [the] League Cup in October last year, took another step on his road to recovery following hip problems with a good shift…." the official post-match report read. His recuperation, which has been punctuated by setbacks, finally looks to be heading the right direction with Lamela pushing for a first-team return ahead of a busy fixture programme. While his prowess in the attacking third is well-publicised [ranked Top Three for key passes and successful dribbles], it’s Lamela’s tenacious work rate which often goes unnoticed. During 2015/16 only Mousa Dembele completed more tackles on average across 90 minutes and in his 9 matches last season – Tottenham were unbeaten conceding fewer goals [0.46] than they did across the remainder of the campaign [0.76].

David Unsworth moved quickly to provide an update on Morgan Schneiderlin after the midfielder was replaced at half-time versus Crystal Palace.

The caretaker boss was forced to defend Schneiderlin prior to the trip to Selhurst Park following growing media speculation which questioned his commitment, and that of teammate Kevin Mirallas, who were both omitted from the squad which faced Watford in game week 11. "There is no story. I know they’re both fully committed. If they’re not in the team or squad, would they be disappointed? Absolutely - and you would want that. There’s nothing in it, honestly. I can assure all the Everton fans that both players are fully committed to this great Club." However, following a lacklustre forty-five minutes against the leagues bottom side, Schneiderlin failed to emerge for the second half, although Unsworth insists his withdrawal was injury-related. "We were forced to bring on Tom Davies. Morgan had an injection before the game on his toe and was struggling."

Missed chances, poor defending and an injury to a key player summed up a forgettable debut for David Moyes as West Ham United fell to Watford, 0-2.

Moyes' return to the Premier League went wrong in every possible way. They gave up an early goal, putting themselves in a pressurized situation which they could not escape from. They had two chances to level the match just before halftime, but shots by Cheikhou Kouyate and Marko Arnautovic were stopped by the Watford keeper. The defense then allowed the Hornets an easy second goal just after the hour mark. Moments later, Arnautovic landed awkwardly, appearing to have injured his wrist, and immediately exited the game. With a quarter hour left, Manuel Lanzini nearly pulled one back, but his shot was cleared off the line. Moyes will go back to the drawing board as West Ham stay home this Friday to host Leicester.
