New Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini enjoyed a dream Premier League start as his side swept past 10-man Newcastle with a superb display.

It was an exciting performance from City and the 4-0 margin has certainly given the rest of the Premier League something to think about. They were slick from the off - probably slicker than at any point last season - but they were helped by a disappointing Newcastle side. Sergio Aguero looked fit, Edin Dzeko looked like a different player, while Fernandino and Jesus Navas slotted in seamlessly. Aguero, David Silva, Samir Nasri and Yaya Toure grabbed the goals and Steven Taylor was sent off for Newcastle. It could be a long season for the Toon unless they spend some money.

Danny Welbeck continues to struggle with his knee injury but otherwise Arsenal are fully fit for Saturday's FA Cup final against Aston Villa.

Arsene Wenger faces a number of difficult selection choices ahead of the FA Cup final. He has already telegraphed that he is going to keep to his policy of playing his second choice goalkeeper in domestic cup competitions so we know Wojciech Szczesny will start. The choices on his field players will be more difficult with Theo Walcott and Jack Wilshere both showing well in Week 38 as they push for starts in the final. Walcott has seemed a far better fit than Aaron Ramsey on the right side of the attack since he has returned. Wilshere seems less likely to feature as Santi Cazorla and Mesut Ozil, the two people he is likely trying to displace, have been two of the club's best players this season when healthy. Good problems for a manager to have coming into a final.

Stoke City has moved on from long-serving veterans Thomas Sorensen and Andy Wilkinson as neither have played a significant role with the club this season.

Sorensen has been with the club for seven seasons and Wilkinson for fifteen so both departures represent significant turnover for the club even if neither figured for the club this season. Mark Hughes is clearly continuing to reshape the roster to his liking as he has made the move for Philipp Wollscheid permanent and brought in Sorensen's fellow Dane, goalkeeper Jacob Haugaard. Both moves make the Potters younger with Wollscheid's 26 being an improvement on Wilkinson's 30-years-old and Haugaard's 23 being an improvement on Sorensen's soon-to-be 39.

Andy Wilkinson has been around at the Britannia forever but no more as the player was released after 15 years with the club.

The player, signed as a teenager by Stoke City, has been with the club for 15 years although he has gone on loan five times during his tenure at the Britannia. Loan spells have included Telford United, Patrick Thistle, Shrewsbury Town and Blackpool earlier in his career and then Milwall this past season. At 30-years-old, he likely has the option of continuing to play but he may be forced to make his step down to the Championship permanent now that Stoke City have let him go.

Wilson Palacios has been released by Stoke City leaving him free to sign with any team.

The Honduras international didn't figure for the Potters this season and Mark Hughes moved to release him rather than pick up the option on a player that probably makes decent wages for a little-used reserve. With Premier League football unlikely for the 2015-16 season, it is possible that Palacios will try to catch on with former boss Steve Bruce as Hull City look to rebound back into the Premier League at the first opportunity. Bruce acquired Palacios at both Birmingham and Wigan when he was managing those clubs.

Cody Cropper was released by Southampton following the close of the Premier League campaign.

Cody Cropper arrived at Southampton as a youngster while the club were returning to the Premier League. The club acquired first Artur Boruc and then Frazier Forster while keeping Kelvin Davies and Paulo Gazzaniga on the roster. This left Cropper well down the list of options. With his contract expiring, the club decided not to renew his deal. Cropper, currently competing with the US U23 National Team in the Toulon tournament in France, is rumored to be close to a move to Bristol City.

With Manchester United's interest apparently waning, Liverpool have launched a bid for Nathaniel Clyne and had it rejected by Southampton.

With only one year left on his current deal, Nathaniel Clyne could likely be had for a very reasonable sum if the right club comes calling with the right amount of money. Apparently Liverpool and £10 million were not the right combination to persuade Southampton to part with their right back. Liverpool are expected to continue to pursue their interest. Southampton are in a difficult spot as they try to decide whether to let Clyne go and cash in on what value he has remaining or continue to try to convince the player to sign an extension given that no Champions League club seems interested in acquiring Clyne.

Swansea City is rumored to be pursuing Saint-Etienne Franck Tabanou, with a transfer fee reported to be in the neighborhood of £3.5m.

Tabanou is hitting his prime at the age of 26 and would immediately challenge for playing time if brought to Liberty Stadium. He plays on the left, with experience both in defense and midfield, sometimes splitting the difference as a wing back. His goal rate would lead you to believe he is wanted more as a defender, which would immediately threaten Neil Taylor, who is the current left back of choice.

Wojciech Szczesny will start for Arsenal against Aston Villa in the FA Cup final on Saturday but his time with the club may be coming to an end.

Like Lukasz Fabianski before him, Szczesny's last act at the club may be lifting the FA Cup trophy. Arsenal are rumored to be pursuing former Chelsea number one Petr Cech as well as Galatasary's Fernando Muslera. Neither shot stopper will be cheap or easy to pry from their current club. Chelsea will surely do what they can to convince Cech to move outside of the Premier League with PSG mentioned while Galatasaray will put a hefty price tag on their Uruguay international.

In a story that could have been copied and pasted from last summer...or the summer before, Arsenal are reportedly in negotiations with Porto and Jackson Martinez to bring the forward to the Emirates.

With a compliment to/improvement on Olivier Giroud on the to do list for the summer, Arsenal have been linked with Jackson Martinez for the third or fourth summer running. The Colombian has a £24.7 million release clause that would leave Porto powerless to prevent a move if the player and Arsenal reach an agreement on personal terms. Liverpool have also been linked with Martinez.

Paul Scholes has come out in favor of Manchester United keeping Angel di Maria after the Argentine experienced a difficult first season in England.

In his season wrap-up column in the Independent, Paul Scholes said this of Angel di Maria "Nevertheless, the quality is there and I don’t think United can afford to lose him. They need that kind of player if they are to compete at the highest level in the Champions League." With the arrival of Memphis Depay as well as the presence of returning Juan Mata and Ander Herrera the midfield picture is crowded at Old Trafford. Given his cost, Louis Van Gaal will have to have a strong idea of what to do with di Maria if he is going to retain him. Perhaps a front three of di Maria, Rooney and Depay with Mata and Herrera rotating behind them supported by Carrick and another new arrival like Ilkay Gondogan would do the trick. It certainly wouldn't be a classic Van Gaal formation but it might be the best way to leverage the talent on hand.

Swansea City have released defender Alan Tate and goalkeeper Gerhard Tremmel

Tate was instrumental in defense for the Swans during their rise through the divisions and helping them reach the top flight. Once in the PL though, his minutes were drastically reduced by premium center backs being brought in as upgrades and Tate spent the past few seasons being loaned out to various other clubs. Considering the partnership he once had with Garry Monk on the pitch, it would be no surprise to see Tate eventually return to Liberty Stadium in some capacity. Tremmel was brought in a few years back as a backup to Michel Vorm and Lukasz Fabianski. Getting up in years and unimpressive in his sporadic starts, the Swans have decided to cut ties and will likely look this summer for someone else to fill the role.
