Scotland international defender Phil Bardsley has been suspended by Sunderland, reports BBC Newcastle.

This is likely to be the end of the road for Bardsley at Sunderland, who is believed to have mocked the Black Cats' opening-day defeat by Fulham on social media. The player was already out of favour after being fined and dropped from the Sunderland squad last season after being photographed covered in £50 notes on a night out at a casino. Right-back Ondrej Celustka was signed on loan last week which means the club can afford to release Bardsley, with Craig Gardner also able to fill in at that position.

Matt Jarvis scored the opening goal in the 40th minute to give West Ham hope for a famous victory at the Emirates but it was not to be as Arsenal stormed back with three unanswered goals for the win.

West Ham played Arsenal even for most of the first half and may even have been considered the better team in the first half. In the 40th minute Matt Jarvis scored the opening goal with his head off of a rebound. The lead didn't last long as Lukas Podolski scored with a powerful left-footed shot in the 44th minute. The lead slipped away for good ten minutes into the second half as Thomas Vermaelen's long ball into the box was controlled by Olivier Giroud who put it through Adrian's legs for the match winner. Lukas Podolski scored an insurance goal for the final 3-1 scoreline.

With Arsenal in dire need of points Lukas Podolski cancelled out West Ham's first half lead and then scored an insurance goal to ensure Arsenal all three points at home against the Hammers.

With many people predicting a trip up after a draining FA Cup semi-final over the weekend things were off to a rough start when Matt Jarvis scored the opener for West Ham. Lukas Podolski evened the score just before halftime to lighten the mood at the Emirates. In the second half Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski both scored to ensure victory for Arsenal as they continue their race with Everton for the final Champions League spot.

Chelsea announced over the weekend that star midfielder Eden Hazard will return "sooner rather than later".

There was no timetable for Hazard's return, but considering his initial prognosis was two to three weeks, we expect Hazard to have a chance to return against Atletico Madrid next week. In terms of the Premier League, Hazard's most likely return to occur against Liverpool in week 36. The Reds are not known for their defense, so Hazard remains an options in that game if the team news are positive. In the meantime, Mohamed Salah will replace him in Chelsea's starting lineup.

Manchester City will be missing Yaya Toure for up to two weeks due to the groin injury picked up against Liverpool.

This is obviously bad news for City, but Yaya was initially ruled out of playing again this season, so it could've been worse. The midfielder will miss the second part of this double-week against Sunderland, as well as the clash against West Brom in Week 35, but Manuel Pellegrini will be hoping he could be ready to return against Crystal Palace at the end of April. In other news, Vincent Kompany and Sergio Aguero both came through the Liverpool game without problems and will be expected to start on Wednesday.

Liverpool beat Manchester City 3-2 to go five points clear at the top of the Premier League, with Philippe Coutinho hitting the winning goal.

What a game. As has been their signature this season, Liverpool started strongly and were 2-0 up within 25 minutes thanks to a smart finish from Raheem Sterling and a trademark header from Martin Skrtel. Manchester City worked their way back in to the match despite losing Yaya Toure to injury, and were unlucky not have been awarded a penalty towards end of the first half when Mamadou Sakho took out Edin Dzeko. City continued to press in the second half and were rewarded when David Silva slotted home after great work by substitute James Milner. It was soon to become 2-2 as Glenn Johnson diverted a cross in to his own net, and City came close to taking the lead when Sergio Aguero's cross was nudged agonisingly wide by Silva. With 12 minutes remaining and the away side in the ascendancy, Vincent Kompany sliced a clearance and the ball fell to Philippe Coutinho, who hit a sweet snap-shot beyond Joe Hart to win his side a massive three points.

Chelsea were not their sharpest today, but Demba Ba scored the only goal they would need to take the points and keep pace in the title race with a 0-1 win.

The Blues were without Eden Hazard and Frank Lampard in their squad, and Mourinho gave Ba a rare start. They did not show much chemistry in their attack on the whole during the match, but an early sending off of Chico Flores provided the advantage necessary to finally break the Swansea defense in the second half. Ba found himself isolated with Ashley Williams, went left, shot with the left foot and found the back of the net for his fourth league goal of the season. Their defense meanwhile kept things tidy against 10 men and continue to be a reliable fantasy source.

Yaya Toure was substituted in the first half of Manchester City's 3-2 defeat to Liverpool due to injury.

Toure injured himself attempting a shot early in the game and never looked comfortable before he was eventually withdrawn on 19 minutes. It looked to be a groin problem, and it would appear unlikely that the midfielder will be able to face Sunderland in midweek. We await official news from City over the coming days.

Liverpool's Jordan Henderson was sent off in injury time during the clash with Manchester City and faces a three match ban.

Henderson was shown a straight red card by Mark Clattenverg for a dangerous challenge on Samir Nasri, which means he will miss three of Liverpool's last four games. Lucas or Joe Allen will replace the midfielder, but his loss is a big blow for the title run-in.

It was a nervy time but Arsenal rode Lukasz Fabianski's two penalty shootout saves to a win over upstarts Wigan Athletic.

Arsenal went behind to giant-killers Wigan on a penalty kick from Jordi Gomez but it was ultimately from the spot that the Gunners would win their FA Cup semi-final. After equalizing on a Per Mertesacker goal in 82nd minute Arsenal and Wigan played two scoreless extra periods before going to penalties. Lukasz Fabianski threw down the gauntlet by saving Wigan's first two penalties. With Arsenal's first four takers - Arteta, Kallstrom, Giroud, and Cazorla - all scoring Arsene Wenger's men were through to face the winner of Hull City vs. Sheffield United.

Sunderland suffered their fifth straight loss and all but solidified their fate as a relegated club in a 0-1 loss to Everton.

As poor as Sunderland have been and as red hot as Everton has been, there was little hope at kickoff of a positive result from the Black Cats, but they came to play and gave Everton all they could handle. Fabio Borini almost put them ahead in the first half with their best chance of the match, but his shot was cleared off the goal line. In the second half, it was anyone's game until Wes Brown was the culprit in an own goal that gave the Toffees all the points. With other lower table clubs winning today, it would take a miracle now for Sunderland to stay up. Phil Bardsley picked up his 10th yellow card and will now serve an automatic 2 match ban.

Hugo Rodallega was rewarded with a start after scoring the game winner for Fulham last week, and the move paid off, as he scored the only goal of the match as the Cottagers win their second straight with a 1-0 win over Norwich and edge to within two points of the Canaries in the battle to avoid relegation.

A great battle between two clubs fighting to stay up at Craven Cottage today, but Fulham were the better side and the result was a fair one. Rodallega had a couple of chances in the opening half hour but could not finish. In the 40th minute, a Lewis Holtby corner made its way into the area, got a slight touch off of Steve Sidwell and then came to Rodallega who put the ball away on the half-volley. A superb save by David Stockdale of a Ricky van Wolfswinkel shot was the highlight for the Cottagers defense as they held on. Expect Rodallega to retain his spot in next weeks' XI as Fulham travel to White Hart Lane.
