One week after being cleared to participate in spring drills, Montel Harris re-injured his left knee and the running back is being shut down.

Harris originally injured his left knee late in the 2010 season. He returned for the fourth week of 2011, but Harris re-injured the knee in his second game back and was through for the year. The Eagles’ all-time leading rusher (3,735 yards) was cleared to participate in spring drills, which began Feb. 18. During the first day of drills, however, Harris aggravated the knee and coach Frank Spaziani declared his RB is through for the spring.

Aaron Green announced that he will transfer to TCU.

Feeling he did not fit into the Cornhuskers’ scheme, the running back indicated late last month that he was leaving Nebraska, though he did not reveal where he was headed. The Texas native will be closer to home and play in what he feels will be s system better suited to his skills. Unless Green petitions the NCAA for a waiver, he will have to sit out the 2012 season. That timing could prove beneficial as, among TCU’s leading running backs from a year ago, only Waymon James will still be around.

Ken McRoyal was shot and killed Sunday in Los Angeles.

McRoyal appeared in eight games (one start) and caught six passes after making the team as a walk-on last season. Prior to joining the Vandals, McRoyal played at El Camino Junior College in California. He would have been a senior in the fall.

The NCAA ruled that transfer DeAnthony Arnett is eligible to play for Michigan State in 2012.

A sigh of relief resonated throughout East Lansing when the NCAA announced its decision. The Spartans' top three pass catchers from last season have moved on and some experience is badly needed -- especially given a new QB is being broken in as well. Arnett transferred from Tennessee to be closer to his ailing father and petitioned the NCAA for a hardship waiver in the hopes of not having to sit out the 2012 season. He got his wish. Arnett caught 24 passes for 242 yards and 2 TDs for the Vols last season as a freshman.

After last month’s announcement regarding his intention to transfer out of Fresno State, Jalen Saunders has decided to play at Oklahoma.

Saunders will have to sit out the 2012 season as he is transferring from one FBS program to another. Starting in 2013 he should give the Sooners two outstanding seasons. Saunders is a small (5-9), but fleet receiver who earned all-WAC honors last season after averaging 21.3 yards per catch, which was the best in the FBS among receivers with at least 30 receptions. Saunders was 50-1,065-12.

Clemson receiver Sammy Watkins was arrested Friday on drug charges.

The charges, which included possession of marijuana, are of the variety that could lead to being suspended for the Tigers’ first 2-3 games. Clemson opens the season Sept. 1 against Auburn in the Georgia Dome. Watkins was the ACC’s freshman of the year and a First-Team selection after totaling 2,288 all-purpose yards last season.

Coach Mike London welcomes transfer Phillips Sims to the UV football program.

London and the school released a statement regarding the transfer of Sims, who would have been the backup to A.J. McCarron at Alabama for a second straight season. Instead, Sims opted to leave Tuscaloosa in the hopes of more playing time. When he will be eligible to play for the Cavaliers is in question. Ordinarily, a player transferring from one FBS program to another would have to sit out a season. Sims will petition the NCAA to play immediately. Should he receive clearance, then Michael Rocco goes from starting QB to having to fight for his job in preseason practice.

Notre Dame quarterback Tommy Rees was arrested Thursday morning on multiple charges, including one felony. Linebacker Carlo Calabrese was also arrested.

Public intoxication and battery to an officer, which is a felony, are among the charges against Rees. The quarterback, who will be a junior during the 2012 season, was in a battle this spring for the starting job with Andrew Hendrix, Everett Golson and Gunner Kiel. Rees started 12 games last season and threw for 2,871 yards and 20 TDs.

Boston College running back Montel Harris was kicked off the team due to multiple violations of team rules.

The most unfortunate part of this development is that Harris has battled through multiple knee injuries the past couple of years. Although he was shut down for the spring after re-injuring his left knee, he was hopeful of returning in the fall for his final season. Harris is the Eagles' all-time leading rusher with 3,735 yards, including a career-high 1,457 in 2009.

Michael Thomas emerged this spring as a top target for QB Braxton Miller.

Miller and Thomas played together in a high school all-star game, so there is some familiarity. Miller went on to become the Buckeyes starting QB last season while Thomas attended Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia before enrolling at Ohio State in January. Their being reunited could be something worth watching. Thomas concluded a productive spring with an outstanding performance in the Scarlet-Gray game and, above all, Miller sounds like he has a found a target that could elevate his game.

Tyler Wilson concluded Arkansas’ tumultuous spring with a sterling effort in the Red-White contest as he continues to help maintain the team's focus.

While the numbers were remarkable (31-of-41, 467 yards) for any kind of game, it’s how Wilson is handling the dismissal of coach Bobby Petrino that has stood out. Wilson has been a pillar of strength in the aftermath of the disgrace and is carrying the program on his shoulders at a trying time. There has never been an issue with Wilson’s command of the offense and there certainly is no question with his ability to pick up the pieces and guide the team at a critical juncture.
